Dance Club: Hips Don't Lie

What: Time for some more belly dancing, Dance Club.

With all the chaos going on, the people needed something fun to do. Something to take their minds off of the uncertainty and mystery. Luckily, Shantae was ready to provide.

"All right," she said, "today we're going to be revisiting belly dancing. It's been a little while since we tried this, so I want to check on everyone's form and show some new steps!" she explained eagerly. "So, anyone want to start off with a demo of what they learned last time?"

"Um."

Lucca gets into stance, her jingle-butt scarf making the motion obnoxiously clear.

"We had the up-shake," JINGLE. "The down-shake," JA-JINGLE. "And then a shoulder shake..." JINGLEJINGLEJINGLEJINGLE. "And some kind of three-step move that I couldn't quite follow." JING... JA JINGLE. JING?

"I think there was something else, but that's what I remember...

"Well that's still great!" Shantae said. "Don't worry, it takes a while to get all this stuff down, but--" She paused a moment.

"Hey, where'd you get that scarf? I'd love to get one of those for myself!"

"I, I'm, I saw this video on Mewtube of a dancer that had one of these! So I ordered one later."

Probably better she didn't make one herself. The thing would have random metal bits and lights sewn on if she had.

"From what they said, it's supposed to help us isolate, you know? It really lets you know when your hips move."

She shakes them a little to demonstrate. JINGLEJINGLEJINGLE.

"Wow... Think you can help me order one of those later?" she asked curiously. She REALLY wanted some jingling as she shook her hips.

"Sure! No problem! Remind me after class, okay? It won't take long."

Although she can't help but wonder at the fact that Shantae didn't have one already. Was she hoodwinked into buying a jingle when she didn't need one? Although Lucca is missing the point in that line of thinking. The jingle is ALWAYS necessary.

"Got it!" She didn't have one, but boy did she want one now. It would be a great accessory.

"Anyway, we'll do a quick refresher for everyone, and then I want to show a few more advanced techniques once everyone's comfortable," she explained.

Dancing, unknown to everyone in this place anyways, was one of Ronnae's hidden passions. Something she'd do in the privacy of her room, when all blinds were hopefully closed and no one was looking. And on the very offchance that her siblings would con her into a club and they were around to protect her as she just let the music take over.

This club was definitely something that would pique her interest, not that she'd participate but she'd come in and sit off to the side to enjoy the music and see the dancing.

Gordon had been invited to the club meeting by Shantae herself in prom night, and it may have been a little late in the meeting, but he did show!

...and once he steps through the doorway and gets a look at all the veils and shaking butts in the class, and does a wide-eyed 180 back out toward the door. This seems a LITTLE too personal for him to just hang around and watch.

Surely someone will catch him on his way out, though.

Seeing other staff members coming to see the class actually put her just a bit more at ease. Meant that this was probably normal and that it was okay for her to watch. She had no idea Gordon was heading back out or she might have kept to herself. Instead, she offered a timid wave.

WHAT'S THIS? OBSERVERS? Well you're not getting away that easily!

"Hey, you two! Wanna join in, or just observe?" she asked.

Ronnae blinked between Shantae and Gordon and shook her head quickly.

"A-ah, no I... I'm f-fine over here thanks... Just... Just wanted to check it out."

[trustycrowbar]

Gordon had JUST about doubled back to talk to Ronnae, when Shantae had approached them. His sweats and t-shirt prove he'd meant to do just that. However, he looks almost as alarmed as the half-elf does.

"N-no Shantae, I think I'll sit this one out after all. I mean, I DID intend on joining in, but I don't think this is a style of dance I'm really..." He makes some vague gestures, and a glance at the crowd of ladies in the front of the room.

"...Err... qualified for."

"Well, you can both just watch if you want," Shantae said, "but you don't have to keep yourselves out if you don't want to! I mean, you've got hips, right?" she asked Gordon. "So you can give it a try if you want!"

[flamejock]

Jock was in this class because 1. he enjoyed dancing, and 2. he enjoyed showing people his belly, because of all of the A.B.S.¹ that he had.

So, Jock had his shirt off, because of the aforementioned reason. Jock waved his hand furiously in the air. "Oh, oh me, pick me, I can show you how to dance, oh me!" he said, grunting and waving and straining and bouncing on the heels of his feet.

A giant burly hairy man doing belly dancing wasn't the most common sight she knew of. Buuuut who was she to say no to someone who wanted so eagerly to try? "Sure, go ahead! Let's see what you can do."

Jock decided to show off his moves.

Oh wait, he didn't have any to speak of.

Jock recreated those few awkward moments at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy awkwardly danced like Donnie from the Barbie Dance Club video from the 1980s. It was. Well. It was.

Shantae just... stared for a few moments after he finished. "...Where did you learn THAT?" she asked, wanting to know what resource she should never ever look into for her lessons.

[flamejock]

"I learned it from the internet!" he said happily. It was a good dance.

[magicdancer]

"Well... I guess it's a start. We'll just work on... refining your technique."

That was code for 'unlearn everything you just did and figure out how to do it right'.

He'd only heard of the dancing club in passing, but that was enough to get Rio interested in attending a meeting. He'd never danced much before, but it looked ridiculously fun. Beyond that, it could help with his training for contests.

Rio tried to sneak in right before class began in hopes of drawing less attention to himself, then took a seat near the back so that he could observe both the teacher and the other students. If things went well then maybe, he thought, he would join.

What was that? A new face who looked like he was trying to be a wallflower? No such luck.

"So, want to try?" she asked him.

He just didn't want to jump headlong into it and end up looking completely ridiculous. Which was probably going to happen anyway.

"I...reckon I might just give it a whirl; see what it's all about. Um. You're gonna hafta show me again, 'cause no way I caught it all that first run-through."

[magicdancer]

"That's okay," she said, gesturing for him to get up and join the group. "There's a few basic moves you need to have down to start belly dancing, so we'll start with the basics. Watch what I do, and just follow along."

Arms out, she gave her hip a little shake to one side.

He paused in a moment of hesitation, then followed after the girl to the group of folk all practicing their moves. It wouldn't be embarrassing if everyone was doing it, right? Right. Possibly. If he wasn't the worst.

After watching her execute the hip shake, he stuck his arms out and attempted to mimic the action, with far less grace.

Shantae nodded. "All right, all right... Try this."

This time, she undulated her hip a bit, like a wave up her belly.
