Hey, it's phys ed class! Or gym class. Or whatever you want to call it. This is most definitely not the first class! It's been going on behind the scenes, totally. Students have introduced themselves and there have totally been some nice normal classes with stretches and jogs and strict exercises and all that. Nothing too noteworthy besides the fact that the coaches do not seem to be on the best of terms.

Today, it's time to take things up a notch.

When students meet in the stadium, Hayato can be found wearing a jacket that might be a little thicker than necessary for this time of year. He did make some kind of comment last week about how everyone should bring one, but who knows who took that seriously. He's going over the handbook for the stadium settings in the time before class truly begins.

Kiyotaka was HERE. He was not going to bug the coaches. Instead, he was going to start his stretches early while he waited.

But dressing warmly... He thought that just meant it was time to switch to the track suit instead of the gym shirt and shorts. Should he have brought a coat? What is even going on here.

Vinnie's on time and somewhat underdressed. Yeah, he'd forgotten about the 'bring a jacket' thing completely - but maybe if its importance was stressed a little bit more, he might've taken it more seriously?

Then again, how bad could it be. He'd lived on an ice mountain before, whatever exercise being thrown at them today couldn't possibly be worse than that.

Anyone coming to class with any frequency will surely have noticed Hajime's adversarial relationship with the gym coaches. One moreso than the other, definitely, but for a student he does an awful lot of backtalk.

For now, at least, he's keeping his mouth shut for stretches. Whatever's been planned, he's going to go at it full gusto, big jacket and all.

How was the kid who gave him the most attitude also the only one who took the jacket comment seriously god damn.

At least he wins a subtle nod of appreciation for that.

This was Knuckles' first time attending.

He never wore a jacket, so, even if he'd heard the comment he probably just wouldn't have.

Well, here was an unfamiliar face. Snout. Sort of - Hayato did see him on the network briefly, but that was that.

He put the stadium booklet aside, swapping it out for his handy dandy teacher's clipboard. Might as well make things official. "You're... Knuckles, aren't you?"

Pulse was a bit nervous about the jacket thing, considering how he rarely wears anything over his armor, but luckily Riche was able to code a patch for him in time before class was to begin. He walked in sporting a rather puffy-looking garment (Riche, who knew little about human clothing customs herself, had to resort to a quick Google search to find out what sort of thing Pulse would need) which albeit bulky, still allowed for full range of movement. Not having had a chance to actually see himself in a mirror, he was still inspecting the artificial code-based jacket clinging to his armor, poking and tugging at it curiously, as he waited for class to start.

Kumatora is here and ready to KICK ASS. She's wearing her hoodie, but then again... she always wears her hoodie.

And here are... a bunch of armed guards standing behind her. She TOLD them she could handle herself in a gym class, but did they listen? Noooooo

Ike is here, and, as always, ready for anything PE has to throw at him.

Was he dressed appropriately? Maybe not. On one hand, he was wearing short sleeves. On the other, he was wearing two layers of short sleeves, pants, and boots - things he might normally wear, dress code permitting. (And even then, he didn't much care for the school's uniform thing...)

Sonic was there! He didn't actually have ANY part of the uniform on, but he normally wears sneakers and a year-round fur coat so it's all good, right?

NOW PAIR UP

Right on the hour, the shrill blow of a whistle cuts through the air, and the coach begins barking out his orders. For all his charm and grace outside of the classroom, when it comes time to teach, he is all business and does not take any shit.

"All right, class, listen up! Today's lesson is on the importance of cooperation and teamwork. Developing and relying on your own strength is important, but being able to rely on others and in turn be there for them is essential."

He crosses his arms, casting A Meaningful Look to his assistant before he turns his attention back to the students.

"Pair off, but don't go for somebody who's a friend. It's a given that you should work well with somebody you already have a bond with, but you should develop the skills to work with anybody at all in a pinch! Trust me, it's an excellent life skill to have."

Another whistle blow. "Now, choose your partners and grab a length of rope from the pile I've set up!"

No teaming up with friends... aww...

Well, that's probably for the best. Kiyotaka also believes in strangers working together toward a common goal, so...!

He raises a hand into the air. "Right! Who wants to be my partner?" nobody ever

Length... of rope...? Mysterious. Were they gonna get tied together or something?

Well, as long as it wasn't anyone Vinnie outright detested, it'd probably be fine. He was confident enough in his own skills to help carry his partner through the task, whoever it was.

He scanned the attendees, trying to spot someone he was reasonably acquainted with.

Now, for all the sass he gave Hayato, the lessons weren't actually half bad, and this ranked among them. Gym wasn't just about honing the body, after all, it was about teamwork with your classmates.

The problem, however, was this meant he had to talk with people.

Hajime cleared his throat and resigned himself to wait. Traditionally, he ended with whoever hadn't managed to find someone better at the end.

So a little missy was late to class, but that's alright. She caught his instructions to find someone to pair up with, but she couldn't tell you who she would go to. In her head, everyone was a friend until they prove themselves otherwise, but she knew it was not mutual. Well, she'd always keep trying.

Until someone took her as a partner, she took note to their teacher's long-ass hair and wondered how he was supposed to be working out with it in the way. She had long hair. SHE KNOWS.

So cue little girl behind Hayato, starting to separate his hair to get her braiding on. ye.

NOW CLIMB A GOD DAMN MOUNTAIN

Now that everyone's all buddied up, Hayato inputs a few commands in the console at the side of the stadium. The ground rumbles a bit before an icy mountain simulates itself. This is the part where Hayato zips his jacket up.

"Your mission today is to climb this mountain! Together. There will be no leaving your partner behind, and tying yourself together will ensure that! The only way you reach the summit is through cooperation!

"Falling, of course, isn't deadly. But it creates more of a thrill to believe it is, don't you agree?"

Falling is probably the least of the hazards present. Ice aside, once Hayato hits one more button, the mountain will start slowly sinking into the ground while more of it materializes at the top -- the stadium is only so tall, after all, so that's the only way to properly scale it. Being too slow counts as falling and gets you booted off the stage. Let's not get started on the weird sunglasses-wearing polar bears patrolling the cliffs... those are only simulated too, right? Riiight? Last, but not least, Hayato never did say anything about not knocking another team to their doom.

It doesn't look like it's a thing he'll mention at all, actually. He tosses his glorious hair over his shoulder and offers an encouraging smile, now that the assignment's been given.

"Those who reach the top will be rewarded with hot cocoa. I believe you can all do it. Now, let's go! Osu!!"

Climbing was one of Knuckles' specialties, after all. And he was no stranger to frozen, snow covered mountains either - Ice Cap zone was a place he loved to train.

"We got this in the bag, Vinnie." he said, grinning up at his partner. "I do this kinda stuff at home for fun."

Hot cocoa wasn't a reward Ike cared for, but he didn't need a reward to take the challenge seriously. Now he knew what the rope was for, anyway...

He turned to Kiyotaka. "Climbing like this... Isn't something I have any real experience in," he admitted, glancing back at the mountain. He'd climbed icy mountains before, but not anything a horse or a caravan couldn't travel with some difficulty. "How about you?"

HAHAHA being too slow?! What the hell kind of talk was that? Sonic tosses one end of the rope to Vivian, and ties the other around his waist.

"Don't worry! This'll be a piece of cake!"

CONGRATULATIONS. Drink your damn cocoa and get outta here. Or hang around and bug the coaches more. Hayato's not in a huge rush to leave as long as nobody's skipping out on their next class.

Seems like a certain security robot's been watching class activities today. He's taken a certain interest in seeing Hayato's teaching methods, suddenly. Though it's possible he also wanted to keep tabs on the physical performance of certain students.

Either way he lingered, speaking to no one until spoken to... and even then, probably not speaking a ton.

AND THEN SUDDENLY

"YOU FUCKING BASTARD," went Ryuuta as he finally reached the top of the mountain, lack of a proper jacket and a giant backpack tied to his body.

Said giant backpack is probably filled with useless items that weren't his to begin with.
