Academy Dreams
Who: Eirika, Open
When: Nov. 11 - Late Night
Where: Academy Grounds
What: What happens when you wake up to a horse eating your hair? You wake up to a horse eating your hair.
Warnings: Not Applicable
Note: Action or prose! Your choice!
[It was Ephraim's voice that she heard. Asking her if she knew who he was. And after that, there was nothing. It seemed without an interruption that she was content to be left in sweet slumber beneath a fruit tree shedding its leaves for the autumn season. At least up until the white horse that stood patiently at attention suddenly lost its said patience and with its head stirred her to something more awake.]
...Ephraim?
[Except it wasn't Ephraim at all. Unless Ephraim had suddenly become a horse. And while she was sure nothing she saw could be real, she also believed that in any moment the dream that she'd been reunited with the academy would hastily end, leaving a reality she couldn't picture being warm or welcoming.]

Looking back to Connor, she nodded. With care, she found Aubrenard's reins and with a gentle tug, coerced him after.]
Naturally. Stables then, and after, I suppose that is where we will part.
[She gave to him a smile, sweeter than she would have ordinarily, as if to say it was a smile she could give only to him. A small curt little nod followed and when she turned from him, it was only to coerce Aubrenard to step along as she made way for the stables.]

Running through the ways to the indoors, Connor doing his best to shield Eirika from the rain. All the while, still getting just as soaked.
This wasn't...planned too well. Connor doesn't know how the modern meteorology works.]
no subject
One of the kinds who got left out of a locked door.
It wasn't as if she couldn't shelter him for a bit, so without even asking for his permission, it was with her right hand that she took a hold upon the front of his robes and tugged him after.]
Come on then. Perhaps it will let up soon.
no subject
Welcome him in once again.
He could help but make a face suggesting if she was really sure about it. He was sort of letting her be his guide as to what to do. If she shooed him, he wouldn't mind. But if she was really inviting him, well...that would be fine too.]
...Yes, but are you sure it is alright? I do not want to seem I mean to implore because of the rain.
no subject
She thought it was entirely possible she was delusional. She just wasn't going to say that to him, so she didn't.
Casting a glance over her shoulder briefly, she nodded.]
A gracious woman would not turn someone away and send them into the rain. It is not as if you are interrupting anything and I doubt slumber will come to me so easily on any day or night.
[So when she found her door, she hesitated for a few moments before she reached for the handle and turned it. And rather than showing herself in, she pushed the door open and waited for Connor instead.]
no subject
However, he didn't expect Eirika to be well. For a while. And well, maybe this was her way strangely of saying she needed him. That was how he was taking it, so he won't disappoint her. He wanted to give her whatever comfort he could muster. Even if it was for a night.]
I...alright. I will not refuse that sort of offer.
[When invited in first, he did enter. Even though he was still soaked.]
no subject
Not that Connor ever thought she was.
She followed in after him, closing the door a little while after.]
There are towels in the bathroom. You can use them. You can hang your robes, if you need to.
no subject
Though changing out of his wet clothes. Here? He sort of froze at that. Uh uhm.]
...My tunic underneath is not as wet. I shall not be long.
[He slowly went in...slowly.]

So when he dismissed himself for her powder room, she took the quiet moments she needed to look around her room. At how nothing had really changed. A nice and neat pile of her homework that was beyond the turn in date, she was sure. She wondered how she'd explain things. Above her head the flowers he brought for her at the infirmary, and the painting he'd done for her in honour of her name day.
Drawing in something of a deep breath, Eirika sat at the edge of her bed, both somber and slightly uncomfortable. And the latter likely due to the idea that she was damp. Reaching over to the nightstand at the edge, she took hairbrush into hand and began the long process of hair care.
Two hours later...Better to do something than to do nothing, or to obsess over the idea that there was a guy- who she happened to like kissing -in her bathroom.]no subject
He wasn't accustomed to this.
He just couldn't turn it down.
He just couldn't.
He dried off his face and removed his robes. Tucking the weapons he had on hand. Just his bow and hidden blades on him today. Making sure they were secure in the right spot in their own space.
His tunic was just a little damp, and his pants were a little more dry too.
He would soon exit, looking probably homey than he had ever looked.]
no subject
Impressive. Except not.]
Do you need me to get you anything?
[Prying blue eyes, not quite as childlike as perhaps they might have been. She felt like she'd aged while she was away, and regardless how much of a child as she was in the eyes of the world, there sat a jaded skepticism in her that kept her guard up, even against Connor.]
no subject
No...you have already done so much. I made sure my belongings were not in your way in your washroom nor take so much space.
[And those eyes...Connor was now glad he took up the offer. She was not well.]
no subject
As if they lived together. Scandalous, right?
And at the same time, she... really liked that idea. She could get accustomed to seeing him every day. To be near him every day. To bury the tip of her nose into his hair. But... was it okay for her to feel that way? In a way, she worried about offending him. Connor could, essentially, heal a lot of the ache in her heart and she was aware of it. Just hearing him helped. And distracted her a great deal.
And there was something about eying him the way a woman would a man...]
This place is as much yours as it is mine, if you should really wish my opinion. There are plenty of things here that symbolise you. It only feels a little more put together with you here.
[How was that for direct?]
no subject
Connor was welcome in her home, or her dorm home. Whatever home this was. That was...that a lot for him to take in such a short time.
He felt him swallow as he walked slowly to then...sit right next to her on her bed.
How far could he go here? What should he do? With a moment to think, he held out his hand and took the brush. She seemed to not pay attention to it. So Connor will.]
Here. Let me.
no subject
So having him in her space, having him act so familiar with her of his own accord... Was that what it really meant to have a suitor?
The feeling intensified when he took her brush into hand and for many moments, she thought about reminding him that such a thing was beneath him. He wasn't a maid of sorts and he wasn't one of her attendants. But she got the impression that his desire to do so was one that would allow him to be closer to her. Perhaps he wanted that. Consequently, she didn't stop him, but her posture did straighten a bit and when her hands laced together, it seemed almost second habit.
She'd probably sat like that several times in the past. What made it different was having it be Connor as opposed to anyone else.]
If it isn't too forward of me, I think you are very charming when you are flustered. [An easier admittance than most.] As you are when you are modest. I had nearly forgotten what this was like, to feel the way I do. Nerves, anxiety, joy. Surreal or not, being so stirred by you reminds me that I am most certainly alive. I have met many princes and many kind men, but none who make me feel as you do. Yet if someone were to ask me when I began to feel this way for you, I could not answer.
[Eirika shook her head, as if she even tried to come up with an explanation for it.]
no subject
The gentle, beautiful sea. The sometimes merciless sea.
While thinking of that metaphor, Eirika probably felt like she was on the sea herself. Waiting for the land of reasoning and salvation in the distance, while braving the waters.
She knew she wasn't facing them alone. He wanted to give her the answers she wanted.]
You are alive. As am I.
[He ran the brush through again. He wasn't too bad at this. It was a way of being...intimate, for the less naive.]
I could not imagine. After a time since we first crossed paths, you did not feel like just an ally or comrade. Or a friend. I think those feelings soon faded the more I knew of you.
I did not know of how I should regard you, what kind of woman you were behind your royal airs. But you soon made that easier. You wanted me to call you of your name, not of your title. You seemed to...value my company. Wanted to know more of what kind of man I was underneath my own feats.
I think for a while, you had stirred something within me. Something of value that I could not leave behind or forget. But how to address such a feeling was something I had not known how to do.

When she was confident, she was curious, and she wanted to have an effect on him. So she could take the initiative and if she hit a level of discomfort with him, she could reassure him. When Connor got brazen and direct, it took her out of control of the situation, which meant trusting him and it was a lie to say she did so without a second thought. She wanted to trust him more and when it came to her life or well-being, that was doable. Trusting him with her heart was incredibly hard. Had been. Still was.
She didn't dare glance over to him. Instead, her fingers grasped at her skirt and bunched it up, loosened it, and repeated the cycle a few times.]
You've... never felt that way about anyone else, have you? Only me.
[She wanted to nod, but refrained. And instead, found more words.]
I could sympathise. Before you came along, I didn't even know it was possible for me to feel that way about someone. I had truly believed I was just to do whatever was required of me. And now as it stands, with my brother as king, he is my king, too. Once upon a time, if he gave the order for me to marry for political affiliation, I would have to do so without a second thought. Yet it would seem I can't do that now. I don't want to be with anyone else other than you, regardless of whatever my obligation as the princess may be. When we are together, I am too easily reminded of what it is to be just a woman and not the title with the crown.
I never knew I could feel that way and now that I do, I just... I only want to be with you. In Renais. Here. Your homeland. I don't care.
no subject
Why...was Ephiram made king and Eirika not queen? Was it because that had to be wed and merge other kingdoms? That was...another reason why Connor found it hard to understand monarchy.
Through Eirika's efforts, she was not made queen...because? Was it that she was a woman? How could society be so jaded? Connor had met women who could take charge of more than the world gave them credit for. Eirika most of all.
Though he said nothing there. After all, he knew Eirika would do whatever for her people even if it meant not getting credit. Connor...did the same in his land. As much as he didn't want to set a double standard, he couldn't help but feel like the woman he grew to adore to this extent deserve the best out of her life. Whatever that was.
Then would Ephiram really send her off against her will to marry? He couldn't do that either, should he? Eirika expressed loving her brother, surely he wouldn't.
He heard her finish though, and his thoughts stopped.
He knew what to say now.]
I never thought I could have the pleasure or the privilege to feel how I do now.
[He set down the brush and laid down her hair so it could flow freely. Spreading it across her back. Connor noted to himself that it really was long hair. Very long. But it was perfect. It suited her.]
I would only want you to follow your own heart, Eirika. Do what makes you happy. That is all I ever wanted for you. No matter what, above all else.
I cherish you for who you are, not what you are. When you speak your mind, I find myself seeing the brave, bold spirit within you.
I could listen to your thoughts, your feelings...I could listen to every word. Because I know they are yours.
I do not want this to change. I will not let anything take this away from me so easily.

When he was finished, she did finally look over to him, somewhat caught for words. She knew he felt that way. As much as she knew that he loved her without him saying it. It was always okay for her to. Well, it was okay for him to as well. She just didn't know how to accept it when he did. And he probably felt the same whenever she spoke up.
So perhaps she was meant to stay quiet. Or to rely upon action. And the latter seemed more appropriate as she tentatively moved a little closer to him. Lifting her left hand, she traced her fingertips over his chin until she could tip it down in favour of settling her mouth to his. But the kiss was brief, despite its warmth.]
You make me happy, so I will hold onto it for as long as I can. And I will continue to, even when my grasp is not as strong as it ought to be.
no subject
Kissing to him now, was something he could get used to every now and then.
He did...he loved kissing her. He really did.
He pressed his forehead onto hers and he was quiet. The rain outside though, was getting louder.]
The rains have not died down.
[He didn't sound like he was in a hurry to leave. He didn't want to leave now. Not with him so happy right now. He sounded almost pleased at the news.]
no subject
When her mind did register it, and the tone of his voice, she thought it was so affectionate that it almost seemed unlike him. Not that Connor hadn't been, but for him to be open about it... Except that wasn't right either. He'd been open about things before she'd left. It was always she who hadn't. At least until their reunion.
Please don't be a dream. I couldn't stand it, Connor.
A sigh and her hands lifted to hold him by the very curve that hid behind his ears, splaying her fingertips along the length of his neck.]
No... They haven't. Do you want to stay?
no subject
But maybe he didn't care. No, he really didn't care. He wanted to be here, his heart said. Listen to his heart, he will.]
If you will have me.
[I cannot leave her alone on her first night returning. She had suffered too much, she will not suffer alone. If for just a little while.]
no subject
You... do not mind?
That is not a simple thing for a man to say to a woman, noble birth or not.
[Looking aside, she tipped her head.] I don't mind, but it is important that you know what you are saying. You are very respectful of me and I know that I can trust you, but do you trust me to stay in such close proximity?
[Even after everything, she was only ever thinking of him. Funny how that worked out.]
no subject
I trust you.
[He did.]
If the rain can help me assure that you do not face the first night you return alone...I will be here when you want or need for me to be.
no subject
[She looked aside from him and lifted her hands to fiddle with the shorter locks of teal that wasn't apart of that whole ocean he'd brushed for her.]
You are concerned about me being alone. I was able to withstand it well enough for months. I doubt another night is going to kill me.
[But that was a terrible way to put it. And he did say he trusted her.] I do not mind having you here. I would lend you the use of the other bed, yet it would seem according to the roster I will have a companion soon to replace Furiae. Although I assure you, my bed has its charms.
[Like her. How could a guy turn that down.]
