When: Backdated to Sonic's flubbed network post on August 23
What: Looks like Smash has been keeping their lake pristine, because the cutest presence to grace Sonic's universe have taken a liking to it!

Chao (pronounced 'chow', sing. & plur.) have found themselves a comfortable little paradise to call their own on Smash Academy's grounds, enjoying their days swimming around, playing games, and taking a gratuitous amount of naps in the warm kindness of the Sun's light.

Most of what you see around the lake now are these little guys in their more neutral, infant forms, and some of the eggs that Sonic was seen holding in his video post are nestled snug and comfy in tall patches of grass. Either way, Chao have an evolutional struggle to contend with, but perhaps a little help from another life form can give them an idea on what they can truly become.

In order to avoid making this the longest log opening possible, please visit this entry in Sonic's journal for all the information you need about how Chao will work! I had to make some adjustments from the original concept, obviously.

As for the log itself, consider it an opportunity to mingle while picking up your Chao (like the dorm log!) You don't need anything from me. ~~But Sonic is going to be watching the crap out of all of you CHAO POLICE~~

"Cute, huh?"

Even Sonic was a sucker for these little guys. He had freed his hands through mysterious means ~~HMMM~~, picking up the Chao that was ready to make a toy out of Casey's tail. Sonic was a little uncertain how she'd handle that, so he didn't want to take any chances.

"We got a ton of Chao back home, but I didn't think they could wind up here, too!"

Well, Sonic's efforts didn't mean too much. One was crawling to figure out what the heck Casey even was, and clearly the only means of an answer was to find its way to her head.

Well, Casey spent half of her time on other peoples' heads. It was only a matter of time before karma got back to get her. She grabbed the Chao with telekinesis and hovered it, upside down, a good distance from herself.

Cute isn't very interesting. How'd they get here?

"Your guess is about as good as mine," he admitted with an air of joy around it. Clearly it didn't matter much to him; he was just happy they were there. He watched the Chao squirm, baffled by its sudden levitation. It mostly did plenty of arm waving, trying to swim out of her grip. "They're more than cute, though! Chao got a lot'a potential."

The one in his arms was done being saved. Sonic put it down and it took a few hops away toward the lake. He smiled after it as it crept to the edges of the water and bat at it. Then it fell face first into it.

Sonic walked over to pull its head out, picking it up by the torso and watching it flail. "They just, uh... need some guidance sometimes."

Potential's only as good as what you use it for.

Casey, meanwhile, had not budged since moving her tail away from curious mouths. She let the floating Chao drop to the ground without a care.

How long before they're smart?

Sonic had to think about that. It wasn't often he had to sit and explain anything about the Chao to people. (Often being 'never'.)

"They're as smart as the people who help them," he murmured, unsure of his own answer. "But that's like anythin', right? Someone's gotta teach ya or you gotta learn for yourself, but Chao don't really get out much."

As lazy as Casey was, she was still a Pokemon; her natural competitiveness needed some kind of outlet if she wasn't battling.

I'll do it!

Well... Sonic didn't exactly get the impression that Casey was the most motivated creature at this school, but who was he to judge?

Besides, the Chao that had fallen victim to gravity a moment ago was making its way back to her.

"Looks like y'got a friend already!" He pointed at it crawling toward her.
