✧ Chao Garden ✧

Welcome to Smash Academy's Chao Garden!
Who: Everyone!
Where: The Lake
When: Backdated to Sonic's flubbed network post on August 23
What: Looks like Smash has been keeping their lake pristine, because the cutest presence to grace Sonic's universe have taken a liking to it!
Chao (pronounced 'chow', sing. & plur.) have found themselves a comfortable little paradise to call their own on Smash Academy's grounds, enjoying their days swimming around, playing games, and taking a gratuitous amount of naps in the warm kindness of the Sun's light.
Most of what you see around the lake now are these little guys in their more neutral, infant forms, and some of the eggs that Sonic was seen holding in his video post are nestled snug and comfy in tall patches of grass. Either way, Chao have an evolutional struggle to contend with, but perhaps a little help from another life form can give them an idea on what they can truly become.
In order to avoid making this the longest log opening possible, please visit this entry in Sonic's journal for all the information you need about how Chao will work! I had to make some adjustments from the original concept, obviously.
As for the log itself, consider it an opportunity to mingle while picking up your Chao (like the dorm log!) You don't need anything from me.
duuuuUUuuuUh
What.
Shadow shifted his eyes to glance at the Chao egg pressed against his skin, ears tilting downward with mild irritation at the touch. Of course onic would be here. Of course he would be here with that Chao egg he was toting.
To that, he gave a simple demand: "Get that thing away from me."
DUUUUUUR
Maybe he had been too busy panicking over the water and escaping Shadow's attempt to rip his head off, but the last time he was here, he didn't recall how serene the crisp taste of the lake water in the air made him feel. Though his ears tickled with a damp sensation along the tips, fur bristled by slight strokes of humidity (it was still summer, after all), he felt perfectly content and comfortable sitting with his buddy amidst familiar breeds from back home.
Said egg wiggled in Sonic's lap, the pull of gravity startling the little Chao inside of it. Sonic patted the top of it as if it were its head, then looked toward the Chao gnawing away at Shadow's foot. He chuckled, but said nothing else.

Shadow silently huffed, eyes shutting and snout lifting slightly with an air of pride circulating the vicinity. From behind him, a thump could be heard from his tail, a sign that he was getting agitated. Granted, it wasn't enough for him to want to shove Sonic away just yet, but he wasn't exactly liking having Chao eggs shoved into his face.
... Now, wait a moment. What was that sudden chuckle for?
He rose a brow, bringing his head down and dipping his book into his lap, and he growled. Oh, that thing was going to ruin his shoe. Great. He wasn't about to have that, though, so he flicked it a small ways away, hearing it squeak in retaliation.
"Hmph."
no subject
Sonic's knuckles met with Shadow's bicep in a sharp jab, displeased with his actions probably a grand understatement.
"It wasn't hurtin' anything!"
no subject
"It was chewing on my shoe. I am not going to tolerate tarnishing my property."
He shot Sonic a glare. Oh, yes, he would know. He sure has done so before...
no subject
"And I ain't gonna tolerate you hurtin' innocent creatures. Besides..." He watched the poor Chao pick itself up from the ground, looking back at Shadow with tears bubbling in its eyes. It quickly approached the dark hedgehog again, angry, crying, and pounding its mitts into Shadow's hip rather weakly. Not that it'd be anything short of painless and adorable, but it was still trying to make a point. "They're just kids."
no subject
They're just innocent kids that don't know what they're doing.
... He did remember one incident when Maria ruined once of Gerald's machines, not knowing that she was making a huge mistake. He remembered how she was weeping to him, how she felt terrible, and how he comforted her and told her it was alright.
Sigh. Fine.
Shadow brought the Chao back down into his lap, huffing, yet remaining gentle, a sign that he gave in. He displayed more indication of that, reaching a hand down to pet the little one on the head, ears folding downward with reluctance.
no subject
...
Hmm. Sonic wondered if he could keep that up. If...
And with that sudden thought, Sonic shoved the Chao egg in his hands against the white fluff of Shadow's chest. He did, after all, have something else he needed to get to now. Shadow's sudden change in nature inspired another idea.
"Here ya go!"
no subject
Shadow flinched, feeling the abrasive, dry shell of the Chao egg rub against his skin. He swallowed a large breath, feeling it against the most sensitive area of his chest, something that made his legs quiver.
That was really the wrong spot to push something - anything - into.
He twitched softly, his legs snapping shut in retaliation, eyes locked onto Sonic with what he hoped the blue hedgehog would take as a look of rage. Really, he had pissed him off for doing that. That was no lie. It was just half of the truth.
Touching him there felt nice, really nice, too nice. He was not about to have that. Not even Maria had touched that part of him!
"... You," he growled, exhaling deeply, "are going to stop that. Now."
no subject
"Take the egg," he said, unknowingly holding Shadow's comfort hostage until he did just that.
no subject
With that thought, he socked Sonic in the face, his own cheeks burning for even thinking of that.
"Enough!"
no subject
Welp.
Sonic hadn't quite braced himself for that. When he sat up again, his face was puffing up red and blood was trickling from his nose in two plentiful streams, but he was still holding the Chao egg out. Oohhh, how he wanted to hit you back, Shads.
"Take it!"
BUT, he'd punch you later. He wasn't about to start a brawl in front of the Chao. Not with one so close and an egg in his hands.
no subject
"... I will," he growled, his voice lighter than he'd intended, "if you do not touch me there without warning again."
Maybe if he had more warning he wouldn't have been this fucked off, but sadly, he didn't see it coming. That only amplified the sensations and those... thoughts.
What was that even about? Just the heat of the moment making him grab for some sort of reasoning...? Yeah, let's go with that.
no subject
fuckedhurt?" Sonic pushed the blood off his muzzle, crawling closer to stick his bloody nose a tad closer in that direction. That Chao from earlier was out of there cause, uhm, gross. Blood dripping.
no subject
"... No," he mumbled. "Just do not do it again. It feels strange."
no subject
"Sorry, didn't know, but it wasn't on purpose," he offered, hoping it was enough. From there, he stood up, smiling again and holding the egg down to Shadow. Here ya go, buddy.
Here we gono subject
Shadow finally accepted the egg, handling it carefully and holding it close. It wasn't cold, but it wasn't exactly warm, either. It was probably a mixture of the life growing within it and the outside air balancing the temperature to something more acceptable. It made enough sense.
His ears flopped, mouth stretching in a wide frown.
"... My guess is," he told him, "that you want us to raise this Chao together."
That left him feeling even more odd. Raising a child-like creature with someone? How very parental, otherwise known as Way Out of Shadow's League or Interest.
no subject
"I can help, yeah," he agreed with a temporary adenoidal wheeze to his words. He tipped his head back a little to stop the ticking trickle beneath his nose. At least it was slowing down.
no subject
Implying that he was going to anyway...? Hmph. Shadow already regretted his wording. For now, however, he ignored the Chao egg, reaching down to yank a glove off of his left hand. With that out of the way, he reaches a bare finger upward to wipe at the blood dripping down his friend's nose.
He dipped his lids downward, eyes poised to stare down at the ground.
He was apologetic, but he doubted that needed to be spoken.
I'm just going to be the one to point out the ghosting of certain fics here
"I'll be back!"
And he took off, making a few stops along the way, but with one goal in mind.
HAHAHAGHAUDHGUGH
He bolted so fast that Shadow couldn't even protest. At the thought, he flinched -- he wanted to make him stay? -- and stroked the top of the egg unknowingly. His mind wasn't focused on his hand, on anything, as he stared out into the lake, lids falling heavily over weary eyes.
Just what was he planning? He was both curious and hesitant to find out.
