What: TIME TO FIND METAL GEAR REX but what else will be found?
Where: ALASKA
When: DATE FLEXIBLE; let's say December 21st for now.
Warnings: Lash, Bounty Hunters, Alaskan Wolf Dogs and so forth.
Samus had had it. She was frustrated. She was aggravated. After months of searching, she still couldn't find Metal Gear REX. Granted, several of those months were riddled with interruptions like tiki island curses and the usual teaching job grind, but I digress.
REX was easily not the biggest threat out there, but at this point it had become a war of attrition on her patience and perhaps her pride too. What kind of bounty hunter could she call herself if she couldn't hunt down walking tank armed with nuclear weapons? Even the slippery local murder had somehow still eluded everyone's sights, including hers. REX was easily four stories tall--something like that shouldn't be too hard to miss. It was once somewhere very close to the Smash Academy, so where could it of possibly gone?
Otacon knew. Or... the old Otacon knew. Samus had been stubbornly resisting going to Otacon for help but was running out of options and clues.
Her recent spat with Falcon, (while currently resolved... for the most...) had her favoring less friendly and lawful methods of information retrieval. Falcon wanted her to stay away from Otacon? Fine. Sure. She wouldn't go directly to Otacon, even if the scientist was her best and only lead.
Samus hunkered down at her computer, fingers swiftly typing away. She was going to hack into Otacon's computer and take what she needed instead.
With any luck, he'd never know about it either.

"So....what are those pulsating things?"
Her imagination wasn't helping very much.

Soon, they did.
The blonde peeked out of the next pipe exit and was greeted by flakes of white snow. Innocuous and few, until she stuck her head entirely out of the pipe and discovered a swirling, cold mass of a blizzard. She had dressed warmly, but now she wasn't even sure she dressed warm enough for this occasion.
"I think we're close." She shouted over the biting wind, and crawled out of the pipe. It was nearly impossible to see in the whiteout. Seemed to be an ideal time to pull out the Power Suit and its many useful visors. In a blaze of light, Samus summoned the armor around her body, seemingly uncaring that Lash would get a rare, first-hand show of it.
She was frankly, more concerned about keeping Lash safe and warm.
"Can you handle this kind of weather?"
no subject
"Can I?" she asked, seemingly not caring about the fact it was dreadfully cold around her. "Let's see...of course! You are talking to a genius, you know." Arrogance was high, but curiously, steam rose up from the suit and one could assume that Lash's coat was on fire. "It's got an internal heater," she explained. "I started making them after fighting Olaf and Blue Moon, and never got into production when uh...things happened. Long story short, but I started to make a few as prototypes in school when Olaf came to teach. Never had a use for them before." She put on a pair of goggles. She couldn't see quite clearly, but at least she wasn't going to burn her eyes.
"What do you think?"
If you liked ridiculous, she was totally awesome.
no subject
"Good. I can see it working." From there, Samus scanned the horizon, looking for anything else that would generate heat. Namely, anything that generated heat and resembled a nuclear weapons disposal facility.
All she saw was more useless blobs of blue and purple... and... wait...
"...There." Samus pointed. "There's some kind of building in that direction. It's our only bet right now. Let's move."
no subject
"You don't have to tell ME twice!" The wunderkind tore off in that direction, running...before slipping on the ice.
"Damn it!" Gracefully done. Before Samus could do anything, however, she reached down and pressed a button on her shoe and hiking spikes appeared at the bottom, giving her a much better traction (and weapon, if need be). "If I can't use my CO powers on plains, I just have to be inventive! Just...don't mention the slipping to anyone."
no subject
The good news was, they were making progress. Slow, cold, but steady progress.
Eventually out of the white loomed geometrical shapes, different from the various mountains, pine trees and snow-covered slopes that were otherwise here.
no subject
"I know I had a pair of...AHA!" She removed a pair of super military grade viewing apparatus that probably had a laser somewhere knowing her, and peeked ahead. Not knowing that Samus had a viewing visor that probably did this ten times better (actually it's better she didn't.) "Doesn't look like the wiring system is online. At least outside..."
no subject
"...do you keep everything in there?"
no subject
no subject
Attention focused back towards the building. A peek through Samus's visors confirmed what Lash had seen. With her around, it would be far easier to tread around the snowy slopes until they reached rim of the facility.
"Looks like nobody's home. Let's see if that's the case."
Oh notifs had turned off for some reason. Sorry for the slow tag
Thankfully Samus was not so easy to kill off, or dumb enough to follow someone like Lash who had CO powers to help her move along. Although actually...she stopped mid step and looked back up where she was.
"Hey you want me to charge you up with my CO power? You'll be able to do this too but I dunno if your suit has a stick-to-walls feature so I didn't bother. Woops!"
no subject
"For the record, it does... but not like this. What do you mean?" For all Samus knew, Lash was just being incredibly dexterous and nimble at the moment for no other reasons other than through hard work and practice.
The bounty hunter was in for a real surprise.
no subject
"Oh I just mean this. Terrain Tactics !" Dark electrical-like energy flew out of her, and right into Samus. There was nothing visible otherwise, if perhaps she'd feel a bit stronger than before and able to resist more shots. But most importantly, the minute she started to climb down the mountain, it was as if a spider
ballhad taken over. Gravity was freely ignored, shut away in a box and forgotten. At least for a time. Regardless it was going to make the climb down to the area much easier and faster. Lash herself was already walking nearly 90 degrees down a part, without falling off.
"Come on let's go I bet there's a lot of unused military weapons!"
no subject
The bounty hunter was about to ask what Lash had even done to her, but explanation escaped her just as Lash escaped down the snowy mountain side. Samus followed and found she did so remarkably easier.
"So this is what you mean..."
Pretty incredible, actually! Tentative her first steps were, in no time short the six-foot something tall robot was racing down the near-vertical slope, no holds barred.
Shadow Moses, here they come.
"Finders keepers, as far as I'm concerned."
no subject
They had come for REX after all.
The walk was pretty easy, thank to Lash's powers and soon they were ready to walk near the helipad and possibly music I mean.
She stepped on to the fresh snow and marveled how her footsteps were leaving perfect tracks. "Well it's not like anyone would follow us here, right?"
Except maybe Claus if he listened to his messages, so who knew.
"Should we cover them up?"
no subject
As to Lash's inquiry, Samus glanced down and behind herself. There were tracks were left behind that weren't at all difficult to follow, even with the continuous snowfall. Lash had a good point. But...
"If someone dares to follow, let them. They won't like what they find." Samus emphasized this with a dangerous ch-click of her arm canon. She seriously wasn't expecting to be followed, and arrogance urged her to press onward.
"Let's not waste any more time."
no subject
Yes, beautiful mental image.
As they got beyond the helicopter pad,
as that music picked up, she turned over to where the big entrance doors were."It's almost too easy. I guess this is what happens when you abandon an entire building." Sigh. Those things kinda made her sad. All those weapons and nothing to use it for!
no subject
The music picked up asThey approached the helicopter pad, finding the front doors slightly ajar. Samus noted old security cameras, miserable and frozen where they were mounted. And indeed, there were a lot of other things left behind. Inside were tanks, crates, tanks and a lot of ravens and mice taking shelter from the biting cold. Aside from them, there seemed to be no other presence of life.
Not even the hum of electricity.
This became even more apparent when the back elevator was approached. Not exactly having an inkling of where to go to find REX, Samus figured the best place to start would be underground. A giant nuclear-equipped walking tank wasn't exactly something you wanted to leave out in the open.
"The power's out." She grunted, suspicion confirmed when she tried the elevator buttons. Surely there was another way, right?
no subject
humpingstanding all over that tank in the corner with the biggest stars in her eyes."Oh wow, that model such a classic!" She tapped and touched it the way a car collector would be looking at an old model. "It's not very useful in this modern age of warfare, but I could totally spruce this up and make it my second driving tank!"
Lash. Lash what. She finally looked up and scratched the back of her head.
"Oh yeah. There's probably a power generator nearby. You know big buildings like this have at the very least one if not two or three backup electrical powers. Especially if they are working with hardcore electronics."
Watch out world. HARDCORE electronics.
no subject
"I don't want to waste anymore time. Can you get it started?"
And if Samus could be any assistance to that, she would. She started by ramming her hand between the elevator doors, and prying them open manually with loud, piercing screeching sounds. The power might not of been on, but that didn't mean an elevator shaft was unusable.
no subject
"Sure sure, just gimme a minute," she mumbled, taking out a large black crystal and placing it close to the wall before taking a pair of pliers and just...place it on the large thing. Checking her watch ever ten seconds as it began to glow, removing them a minute in. "There!"
There what? She walked over holding it like it was the holy grail or something.
"Tada! How do you like my portable Neo Miniture Black Obelisk? I modeled them after the large ones we used to make in Black Hole. It's like a super-super-super--" she went on for a while, "--super super super super Battery!"
In a move that seemed to defy logic, she tapped it and a small wave of energy floating from her right into the elevator, lighting it up...although there were some sparks from being pried open like that. "Tee hee! Now that's what I call a sparkling entrance!"
Lash you were impossible.
no subject
"It's convenient." Was all the bounty hunter commented with. It was convenient and certainly got the job done as the elevator hummed, or rather, sparked and kind of screeched to life, thanks to Samus's manhandling of the outer doors. Oh well. Either way, they were an formidable and effective (if odd) duo.
"Let's see how deep this rabbit hole goes."
