Return to Zero! Destroy the Patriot's AI, AL!
Who:
temptedthesnake,
whitedeviljack,
animu_nerd,
140_96
What: Taking down some Patriot AIs.
Where: Beyond outerHaven city limits
When: Sometime after EVA's request for help. [Specific date pending]
Warnings: Action, Adventure and Skin Tight Suits.
A world divided between East and West seemed to hold little meaning Final Destination City. A school on a hill not far from the city specialized in the art of fighting; raising, training and refining newbies and veterans alike. It could effectively create The Perfect Soldier.
They could fight against one another, they could fight unified against a greater threat if it loomed overhead. This world was not divided between East and West, but there was still good and evil to contend with...
Don't forget, this is a real mission.
Raiden reminded himself as his feet took him down into darkness, one boot on one metal bar after the next. The service stairwell was more like a vertical tunnel, surrounded by ancient concrete masonry that breathed grim and dirt decades old. The metal ladder had long since lost its paint and left crumbling specks of rust with each step. Occasionally he'd feel some crumble onto his head thanks to EVA following him just above. He tried not to mind it or look up for that (and another less polite) reason. The walls dimly reverberated with the promise of something big and fast heading their way: the mission objective.
Nearly there.
Far above, Otacon and Mei Ling circled in the sky in a large transport helicopter, able to stay out of sight and out of mind from enemy eyes. ...For the time being. Raiden knew it had taken a lot of digging and sleuthing to get this far, but this mission had only just begun. This was one he was doing of his own will and volition. No longer was he a puppet on strings.
Infiltrate the subterranean Patriot railroad system.
Intercept the AI and destroy it before it reaches its destination.
Tracking down some of Zero's AI's had proven extremely difficult, but not impossible, "AL" was the first on their list. It had been perfect timing to discover it was being transported via underground train to a new holding facility, making it vulnerable for a very brief period of time as it was en-route... if one could get inside the train, that is.
"Wait." Raiden whispered, feeling only air beneath his boot as he came to the bottom of the stairs. "I think we're at the bottom."
It was too dark to see, but he felt himself dangling precariously in open air, too high up to safely drop to the ground. That wasn't the idea anyway. If they timed it correctly, they could safely drop on something else; a glimmer of light appeared at the far end of the tunnel with a distant roar.
"The train is coming."

"The train is coming."
A REAL TAG TOMORROW I PROMISE
Meanwhile Otacon was too busy trying to get it on with Mei Ling. It's a helicopter thing, you see.Meanwhile, in the air...
She adjusted her headset and adjusted the throttle with her other so that they would stay relatively within broadcast range but still be out of enemy sight.
"The train is about 5 minutes from your current position. Aim to land for the second carriage and make your way to the middle where AL should be transported. Good luck."
It wasn't hard to track the train's progress despite the precautions that they took in transporting the AI. It was still detectable by the helicopter's thermal sensors. Thankfully the railroad network didn't go any deeper otherwise they would lose coverage. But EVA and Raiden had Mei Ling and Otacon, the best people for this job so what could go wrong?

"Mei Ling and I will be providing you with as much backup as we can," he told them. "I've also got MK-II following you," he explained, as the tiny creature stood the both of them, waving.
"Hello!" it offered cheerfully. Unlike the one that a future Otacon would have used, this MK-II was powered by a special ship the previous Otacon had developed, giving it speech and a personality. It's tiny, robotic voice seemed pleased to be doing this. "I'll will be assisting you in opening doors or other devices that might need my skills."

After months of planning, then waiting for Snake, then planning again when she became impatient, EVA was finally on her way to destroying the first of Zero's AIs. Raiden wasn't Snake, no, but she was entirely confident he was the next-best option. And she couldn't have asked for a better support team than Otacon and Mei Ling.
EVA had stayed almost completely silent since they left for the mission. When they reached the bottom, she quietly listened to Raiden, then to Mei Ling and Otacon. She glanced up into the dark stairwell to find a bitty robot dangling from a step by its tentacle.
"Thanks, Otacon," EVA replied.
Beneath the two blonds, the sounds of the approaching train was getting louder. The steps on the ladder started to vibrate- gently at first. EVA shut her eyes. She was so fucking ready for this.

The ladder vibrated more, shaking intensely as the train roared closer. It was almost time.
"Get ready."
A jump too late and both of them would fall to their deaths. A jump too soon, and well... an even worse death. The timing had to be just right. Raiden felt the pressure in the tunnel drop as the train finally passed under them with a blast of wind so strong it nearly knocked him off the ladder.
"Go!"
He let go and fell onto the train car with a thump. He knew he had to act quickly and find an opening before the train went back into the smaller part of the tunnel and the ceiling would be much lower and less forgiving if they were still on the outside. Hands fumbled for a moment until he found a hatch.
"Here. Over here!" With wind blowing in his face he almost wasn't sure he could make it, but with a mighty grunt he was able to twist the handle and open the hatch. He slipped inside the car and landed in pure darkness.
"...I can't see a thing."

the little robot replied in a hushed whisper, dropping...well in Raiden's arms (think fast Raiden), as the robot's front screen turned on, illuminating the room at a very, very low setting.

A few steps back and EVA was teetering at the edge of the train. She gracefully dropped down onto the vacant caboose and fumbled for a door handle. She heard Raiden shout something over all the noise, but she wasn't able to make it out. Surprisingly
and rather convenientlythe door was unlocked. The blonde let herself in just as the train passed into the smaller portion of the tunnel. The car EVA found herself in had windows, but barely any light passed into them. She felt around in one of the pockets of her jumpsuit and pulled out a lighter.
"I'm in a separate car," she admitted to the team over codec. "I couldn't tell where you are now, but I'm in the very back."
no subject
WHACK! "Gghk!" He congratulated himself for not yelping much louder than that. Breaking the MK-II's fall wasn't at all pleasant, but it did provide light. Raiden gently set it on the ground and rubbed his sore face.
"Where's EVA?"
He spun around, holding the codec to his ear looking and listening frantically for the other blonde. With the MK-II dimly lighting up the car, Raiden took in a good view of his surroundings. Rusty metal walls were lined nearly to the ceiling with crates and cardboard boxes. All of them sealed. There didn't seem to be any cameras or traps but his eyes could only see so far with the dim light. A door was on the far end, and appeared to be sealed with a number-pad lock. No sentries, and EVA was definitely no where in sight. Oh no, what if something happened? What if she...? "EVA? Are you alright?"
Her voice chimed over the codec, thankfully. Phew. That was good... but...
"I'm in the second car, I'm pretty sure...I guess we'll both have to work our way towards the middle, huh? That's where AL is."
no subject
"You're both on differing ends of the train. Just make your way to the middle. The map should show you the best way to get there to avoid detection. You may have to go on the roof or go through the carriage as appropriate."
no subject
"Sounds fine." She paused for a second. "Do you have MK-II with you, Raiden?"
MK-II was there to help open doors. If Raiden had the robot, EVA discerned she might have a little bit of trouble with the doors...
no subject
Or it should be, at least.
Cautiously, he took several steps up to the door to find out. It was locked, and while he waited for the MK-II to do its thing, he peered through a small glass window on the door near the top. On the other side was a hallway and then another door leading into the third car. It was difficult to see beyond that but he could make out a blinking red light in the distance.
"I think there's some security cameras in the third car." Makes sense that they'd be protecting the AI in some way, at least.
"Can you see anything where you are, EVA?"
no subject
"Mm," EVA hummed idly, bringing herself to the door. It didn't budge when she approached, meaning it was most certainly locked. Maybe the two in the helicopter could help her out. "I see the cameras," she replied.
"I don't think this door is going to move," she added, after she fiddled with it a bit.
no subject
"If you can get Metal Gear Mark Two there and plug him directly into the central command, I'll be able to access their database and unlock all the doors, and jam their surveillance utilities. Got all that?"
SAVE GAME?no subject
Mei Ling look worriedly over at her support partner.
"I'll be looking out on all the outputs while Otacon does what he needs to do. We're not entirely sure what other security the AI has on it, but we do what we can."
no subject
DO NOT SAVE"Right." Raiden nodded into the codec, words of direction and words of encouragement in his ear. He slipped into the third car and followed the MK-II's footsteps (or wheels, rather) as carefully as he could. There were laser-traps and of course the rotating cameras but they could be avoided with careful, timed movements.
The train car was jostling around as it sped through the tunnels however, so that was easier said than done. Eventually, Raiden managed to make his way to where the MK-II was, patiently waiting at an override panel. The tiny robot might of been able to get there easier than he did, but it still needed Raiden to pick it up so it could reach the panel.
I made it. We'll just get you plugged in here and... bingo!
Like magic, all the doors clicked and the blinking red lights of the camera dimmed out.
"I'm going in." Raiden whispered into his codec, gun at the ready. He darted into the next car, immediately greeted with a large, central mass (http://i.imgur.com/esjmA.jpg) of metal and wires, sitting in the center of the train car. It hummed with power and clicked with data, like a king to a electronic throne.
This must be the AI... No doubt about it, the back (http://i.imgur.com/XStF8.png) of the beast was clearly labeled. In his awe, Raiden forgot for a split second he was not alone.
"Freeze!" Alone but had the upper hand. Raiden pointed his gun to the lone sentry guarding the AI. The guard spun around, hands in the air, calm as can be.
Probably because there was just not a single, lone sentry in the room and Raiden did not have the upper hand as he thought he did. This startling realization was made the moment Raiden felt the tip of a gun pointed at his head and he heard the gruff bark of another man say, "Drop your weapon!"
Great. How had he not seen him? Raiden remained where he was and didn't lower his gun, silently hoping the MK-II had found a safe place to hide for now, and EVA was likewise safe.
And that he could think of a quick way out of this...
no subject
"Raiden's in trouble! Please help him!" Mei Ling said over the frequencies, but this was mainly directed to EVA. She wasn't panicking but there was a note of urgency in her voice. If these goons called for backup to wait at the destination, they would be in a lot of trouble. Mei Ling hoped that they thought that Raiden was alone, thus EVA would have an advantage in taking them out.
"Otacon, doesn't Mk II have any defensive measures on it?" This time her words weren't addressed over the codec, but over her shoulder.
no subject
It might not have been the most glamorous thing, really, but Otacon had planned for just an emergency. As the both of them could watch from their video feed, MK-II flew on the ground to where they were and using one of the tentacle-like wires, grabbed the man's leg and gave him a volt of energy into his entire body.
no subject
She held her breath, listening to the drama in the third car play out in her codec. She replied to Mei Ling's call for help with a quiet, "Mm." Drawing her Mauser, she aimed at the guard's head but kept her finger off the trigger.
He does, hold on Raiden!
EVA wasn't clear on what this was in response to, considering Mei Ling's comment to Otacon hadn't been over codec. She wrongly assumed this was in response to a comment regarding someone with a weapon in the third car. As quickly and as silently as she possibly could, EVA tip-toed past the napping guard. Idiot.
Just as EVA found the door to the third car, MK-II was using it's tentacle on a guard standing just behind Raiden. Another guard stood in front of him, hands in the air. EVA slipped into the car and found a spot where she was invisible to either guard. She holstered her Mauser and drew the Tranq gun she had brought along as well.
no subject
"I said drop it!" The guard hissed again, and nudged the gun against the back of his head harshly; a quick snap at his scalp like a biting animal.
Raiden still didn't move. Grit his teeth but kept his ground.
It paid off, as the guard ate the electric shock and... well, Raiden was so fortunate that
he got shocked toothe gun wasn't in contact with him anymore, or he probably would have felt it too. That proved to be distraction enough for the held-up guard to spin around and pull at gun on Raiden now. He said nothing, and Raiden remained where he was. It was a stand off with two guns pointed at one another.
It was around then that Raiden caught a glimmer of blonde hair. Focusing back on the guard in front of him, he took a step forward. As he had hoped, the guard took a step back.
"Stay back!"
"I will if you start talking." Raiden replied, and took another step forward, pushing the guard into a more open area of the car. "Tell me how to shut it down."
"Like hell I will. I'm here to guard it, so stay back!"
no subject
As the other guard's body hit the floor with a quiet thud, EVA shot the first. Unfortunately, her aim faltered slightly and she managed to hit him in the shoulder, rather than his head. "Shit," the blonde whispered between clenched teeth to herself. It would take a minute or two before the tranquilizer worked its magic.
The silencer on her gun had mostly muffled the gunshot, but it still made a noticeable sound...
no subject
Raiden's eyes followed his and on his shoulder was the tiny, barely-there remnants of the tranq dart, sticking out and wobbling around. Not perfect but certainly still workable. He didn't want to give the guard another second to figure out where it came from, so Raiden engaged in some old fashioned CQC. He grabbed the guard at the shoulders (serving well to drive the dart even further into his skin) and tried to hold him down.
The guard was, ahem, caught off guard and attempted to wrestle himself out of the mercenary's hold, but the guard's strength was waning fast, and soon enough he didn't even have enough fight left in him to stand on his own too feet. He crumpled to the floor, fast asleep.
Raiden motioned for EVA to come out.
"All clear."
no subject
"Oh my god that was so badass, however improbable."
and EVA was like "Yeah I know man."
So then Otacon and Mei Ling were like "Guys the mission...!"
And they were like "Oh yeah."
So EVA and Raiden did a fusion dance and became the ultimate hot blonde but nothing really changed.
except they went super saiyan level 7 which is more powerful than 6
Then EVARaiden punched the computer and it blew up and they were like "the day is saved thanks to us and our fists hurray"
and they flew away
