POKEMON STUDIES #2: I can't believe it's not Politoed!

Who: Misty, class attendees, teacher lurkers
What: Pokemon Studies with more than one twist.
Where: The stadium
When: Tuesday, January 25th
Warnings: Depends on who attends.

Misty's class was going to be granted one hell of a surprise, indeed, but not quite the one she had in mind. A rather grumpy-looking frog woman with Misty's hair, clothes, and body entered the room, somehow able to still grumble under her breath in a legible human language. Surely this couldn't possibly be Misty at all!

"Hi, class," she spoke in a voice much unlike her own, much deeper and cracking. She was clearly very frustrated by this turn of events. "Believe it or not, I'm actually your teacher today, and... Misty..." She caught herself. No, she wasn't ready to confess to her class that she looked like a grotty, ugly frog. "... will not be teaching today! I'm just a substitute, uh... frog woman! With, um... with shapeshifting powers! I tried to adopt a persona a lot like your teacher's! That's right, so... don't feel uncomfortable! Okay?! Just don't!"

It was pretty clear that Misty valued her looks enough to try to hide her identity to her students.

"This class will be held at the Stadium, right here, instead of the classroom. I used my- er, Misty's lesson plans this time for a new introduction to Pokemon: test battling."

Misty presented a box to the class, containing Poke Balls. MANY POKE BALLS, enough to accomodate all of her students. They were all Pokemon sent from Kanto, not to mention very common ones. (What, you expected the likes of Kangaskhan and Dratini?)

"Each student must pick a Pokemon from this box. You're not being given this Pokemon permanently! It's only for class. Each student will battle each other in random match-ups with the Pokemon they chose at random. That way, I can see how students adapt to Pokemon they weren't forewarned about! It's simple as that.

"Now, all you have to do is come pick a Pokemon, and when you do, I'll tell you who you'll be facing! Then each set of students will battle each other! It's just as easy as that. Real Pokemon training is a lot harder work than that, so we'll have to take baby steps to start. So c'mon, pick a Pokemon! And, um... I promise I... Misty will be coming back soon!"

Here's hoping.

((OOC: While some Johto Pokemon are, too, located in Kanto, for the sake of confusion prevention, only very common Kanto Pokemon will be used. I compiled a nice little Pastebin list here. Which Pokemon they get is up to you! Pokemon like Butterfree and Beedrill are exceptional and will be included, as Caterpie and Weedle's lines are... very weak apart from them, plus they evolve at a measly level 10.))

*Slippy is way beyond ready for this. So was Magnemite. The fact that it was just staring vacantly while floating around lazily did NOT mean it wasn't totally ready to put up a battle. Really!*

Okay, this is gonna be tricky.

[As in, Magnemite literally resists every single move Rattata could possibly know outside of TM moves. As in, Lyra is probably boned.]

Uh... let's start with a Super Fang, Rattata.

[Okay sure yeah. Let's bite the metal thing. Surely that will go well.]

[While Lyra had the type disadvantage, Slippy had a disadvantage of knowledge. Outside of a couple of things he read in books, he knew nothing of Pokemon battles. This included attack names.]

Magnemite! Uh...Um [Come one, what's one of its attacks?! Think!] Uh...use thundershock?

[Know what smells great? Fresh baked bread. Know what doesn't smell great? Fresh baked rat. Critical hit! But Rattata is still standing. THIS CAN STILL WORK. SOMEHOW.]

Shoot... uh... Rattata, hang in there! Try a Tail Whip?

[Hey, maybe softening it up a little will mean making a bit more impact even with resistences, right?]

[Well, there's some good news, Lyra. The attack did make Magnemite's defense go down.]

Good job Magnemite! Now do...Oh, I know! Do Discharge!

[Magnemite looked at Slippy in confusion.]

What's wrong, Magnemite? Discharge!

[Magnemite continued looking at Slippy in confusion. It didn't know Discharge.]
