Remember that box?
Who: Jeff Angel and Pit.
What: A promise to make dreamcatchers.
Where: BE-08
When: Saturday, June 19th, sometime in the morning.
The beginning of another weekend. It didn't mean much to Pit right now- lately he'd been forfeiting a lot of the free time he once had for piles of homework that were stacked in his mental to-do list. A good deal of the times he sat himself down to commit to assignments, the sun's inviting rays drew his focus away from the drab white and black of essays and worksheets and made his mind play in it. Soon, he would wind up thinking about something completely different, and lo and behold, Pit was snagged in a daydream.
He thought about this problem that morning when he sat near the end of his bedpost, cereal bowl in lap, spoon in his mouth. Stupid homework... He had friends he wanted to spend time with! But ah, work was so important... Palutena would not condone him slacking off. He had been lost in dreams when he should be paying attention to the work in front of him. But as he shuffled back through the hallways to wash his bowl clean, another thought hatched. Eureka!
Dreamcatchers. They caught dreams, right? Imagine if he could actually rack up all those pesky daydreams he'd been sinking in lately? Who knows if they really worked, anyway? An easy solution for sure. Haha. And Jeff said they would make them one day. That's right. Jeff said. But they hadn't done that yet. The whole idea must have been gently pushed aside for a later date. Even he forgot, just a little!
As he walked back to his room, he was inspired to ask Jeff about it. The day had barely started, so there was always all weekend to work on homework... To be honest, he missed spending quality time with his roommate. Jeff wasn't as easy to nudge into doing things with him, especially since they were both busy or off on separate agendas. He reentered and without worrying how Jeff would react, crawled on top of his roommate's bed as hepouted into read his book. Suddenly playful, he sat down like a cat, grinned, and pinched his toe.

No, alright, that was fine. The angel had done that plenty of times before. Maybe if this had been in the beginning of their roommate relationship, he would have said something. But the blond knew it was pointless now. Fine. Let the angel do whatever he wanted, so long as he didn't interrupt--
"Ow!" Jeff flinched as his toe was pinched. It wasn't very painful, but he hadn't expected it at all. Glaring at the angel, he harshly asked, "What?"

"Alright, alright," the blond stood up. "I have a feeling that even if I said 'no,' you would continue to bother me until I changed my mind. Go get the feathers. I believe I have the other materials somewhere..."
Checking his closet, Jeff found the box which contained string, twigs, and beads. It hadn't taken him very long to obtain the materials or to find instructions on-line. The only reason they hadn't made the dream catchers before was due to conflicting schedules. But since they both were free, now was as good a time as any.

"The first step to making a dream catcher is to make the base. These sticks are very flexible, so we should be able to make a circle with them. If you need more than one stick, just tie them together with the string."
As Jeff explained, he took two long sticks and curved them to make a half circle. Then, using the string, he tied them together into a circle, "Like this."

He began tying the two into one. "Do you think these really work somehow? Or is it just a superstition?" He licked his lips and looped the string through a thin gap.

So instead, he shrugged and grabbed some more string. "I don't know. I guess we'll just have to try them out to see for sure."
Hm. The blond noticed that he was saying "we" a lot. When had that happened?
With a shake of his head, he decided not to obsess about it. "Anyway, next you take some string and wrap it around the circle in a spiderweb shape. It doesn't matter how many times you do it or in what direction. That's what makes each dream catcher unique," he started wrapping the string around his circle. "If you want, you can add beads to it too."
jeff you're so cute

"Yeah, here," Jeff moved the box closer to his roommate. "There should be some under the sticks and string. Different colors and sizes, too." Which may or may not have been stolen from the art room, but Pit didn't need to know that.
Once Jeff had finished wrapping around the string, he cut it and tied it off. "All that's left are the final details." He tied a few strings to the bottom of the dream catcher. Then he added some beads, knots, and a feather to each string. "Done (http://avarady.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/dreamcatcher.jpg)."

"It's..." He was about to say 'horribly kitsch,' but he wasn't sure if Pit even knew what that word meant. And a small part of his mind didn't want to insult the angel. Said voice was quickly ignored. "It's.... you. Like you said, the uniqueness of the dream catcher is similar to people."
"Or whatever stereotypical hippie nonsense you said," the blond added with a smirk.

He finished up with that part and glanced at the feathers... his feathers. They were swan white and came in different shapes and sizes. Some where fluffy, some downy, some long and streamlined, and some small and a little more on the rounded side. "Did you know?" Pit asked. "Angel feathers are different from bird feathers. They're ziplocked tight together so it's difficult to mess them up. That way, it's easier to look nice." He picked one up and silently debated whether it was suitable enough for the dreamcatcher.

The blond picked up a long and streamlined feather and twirled it between his fingers. The stalk was fairly thick and durable. "You know, I wonder if you could use these for other things. I mean like quills or to stuff into a pillow. Things like that," he shrugged.
Not that he was implying he wanted a pillow filled with Pit's feathers. That just sounded weird.

"Let's see," Jeff stood up. Walking over to his desk, he pulled out a pair of scissors. With a bit of effort, he cut the bottom of the feather on an angle and placed the scissors back down. "The shape seems fine. Probably would need to use some sort of blade to get a sharper tip. But it looks like it could hold ink fairly well. I don't have any on hand, but next time I'm in the art room, I'll grab some."

Leaving the quill on his desk, he resumed his seat on the floor. "What about some type of animal fur? Or sheep's wool? Those can be just as soft, if not softer." Not that Jeff had ever felt freshly sheared wool. And the extent of his knowledge of fur was fur coats and fur lined clothing.
All of a sudden, the blond thought of a question. "You seem to be okay with your feathers being used for a variety of reasons. Is there anything in particular you wouldn't want your feathers to be used for?"

And then he burst out laughing. "Ha ha, oh yes," he managed through laughter, "because clearly the only reason to study something is to replicate it." The blond couldn't help but find Pit's complete lack of understanding towards science to be utterly hilarious.
Waving it off, he attempted to stifle his chuckling. "Besides, who would want to clone you anyway? If anything, they'd want to learn more about angels and try to find different ones other than you."
no subject
He could barely focus on his dreamcatcher anymore. Dropping the scowl, his eyes grew wide and intense, and he asked, "Do you think they'd really do that? Try to find out answers by examining me?" Jeff was always interested in him. There were many people who pecked him with questions about angels and heaven. "Couldn't they just... ask?"
no subject
He reclined back on his arms. "Alright, how about this? Do angels have the same amount of chromosomes as humans? And if so, would their genetic material be compatible? What sort of viruses or diseases are angels immune to? When angels are born, is the rate of gestation more similar to humans or birds?"
no subject
"Huh? You mean, all that scientific stuff? Well..." He looked the other way. "I guess you have a point. I can't answer those questions." The fear of being prodded out of a thirst for squeezing answers out of him took over. His teeth clenched softly and he stared at the ground.
Then he looked up. "You don't think... Will scientists want me?" A tinge of apprehension showed on his face.
no subject
"Well, maybe not here. There's enough crazy stuff at the school that they probably wouldn't even bat an eye at an angel. I'm sure they'd be more interested in all the aliens and advanced technology."
Although Jeff didn't consider himself even relatively close to being a scientist, he couldn't help but wonder about the inner workings of his roommate. It was a shame Pit didn't know anything about himself. Then again, there were plenty of humans who had no idea about themselves either.
no subject
"Yeah. Crazy stuff. Thankfully." He imagined what it would be like if he were transferred to a school with people who weren't accustomed to special powers or odd spectacles, like Jeff. Would life be the same? Could he make friends? Would he be shunned or have all the attention he could ever ask for? He would probably never know. Anyway, he was satisfied with life here at Smash Academy.
Which reminded him. "Hey. You went to school before you came here, right? How was it different?" He wasn't sure if he had asked this question before or not, but in any case, he forgot.

Compared to other people in the United States, Jeff was one of the rare percentages of the upper class. But after coming to Smash Academy, he quickly learned that there were people out there with super powers or magic or unimaginable intelligence. It made him feel... average.
And he hated it.
