Remember that box?
Who: Jeff Angel and Pit.
What: A promise to make dreamcatchers.
Where: BE-08
When: Saturday, June 19th, sometime in the morning.
The beginning of another weekend. It didn't mean much to Pit right now- lately he'd been forfeiting a lot of the free time he once had for piles of homework that were stacked in his mental to-do list. A good deal of the times he sat himself down to commit to assignments, the sun's inviting rays drew his focus away from the drab white and black of essays and worksheets and made his mind play in it. Soon, he would wind up thinking about something completely different, and lo and behold, Pit was snagged in a daydream.
He thought about this problem that morning when he sat near the end of his bedpost, cereal bowl in lap, spoon in his mouth. Stupid homework... He had friends he wanted to spend time with! But ah, work was so important... Palutena would not condone him slacking off. He had been lost in dreams when he should be paying attention to the work in front of him. But as he shuffled back through the hallways to wash his bowl clean, another thought hatched. Eureka!
Dreamcatchers. They caught dreams, right? Imagine if he could actually rack up all those pesky daydreams he'd been sinking in lately? Who knows if they really worked, anyway? An easy solution for sure. Haha. And Jeff said they would make them one day. That's right. Jeff said. But they hadn't done that yet. The whole idea must have been gently pushed aside for a later date. Even he forgot, just a little!
As he walked back to his room, he was inspired to ask Jeff about it. The day had barely started, so there was always all weekend to work on homework... To be honest, he missed spending quality time with his roommate. Jeff wasn't as easy to nudge into doing things with him, especially since they were both busy or off on separate agendas. He reentered and without worrying how Jeff would react, crawled on top of his roommate's bed as hepouted into read his book. Suddenly playful, he sat down like a cat, grinned, and pinched his toe.

He could barely focus on his dreamcatcher anymore. Dropping the scowl, his eyes grew wide and intense, and he asked, "Do you think they'd really do that? Try to find out answers by examining me?" Jeff was always interested in him. There were many people who pecked him with questions about angels and heaven. "Couldn't they just... ask?"

He reclined back on his arms. "Alright, how about this? Do angels have the same amount of chromosomes as humans? And if so, would their genetic material be compatible? What sort of viruses or diseases are angels immune to? When angels are born, is the rate of gestation more similar to humans or birds?"
no subject
"Huh? You mean, all that scientific stuff? Well..." He looked the other way. "I guess you have a point. I can't answer those questions." The fear of being prodded out of a thirst for squeezing answers out of him took over. His teeth clenched softly and he stared at the ground.
Then he looked up. "You don't think... Will scientists want me?" A tinge of apprehension showed on his face.

"Well, maybe not here. There's enough crazy stuff at the school that they probably wouldn't even bat an eye at an angel. I'm sure they'd be more interested in all the aliens and advanced technology."
Although Jeff didn't consider himself even relatively close to being a scientist, he couldn't help but wonder about the inner workings of his roommate. It was a shame Pit didn't know anything about himself. Then again, there were plenty of humans who had no idea about themselves either.

"Yeah. Crazy stuff. Thankfully." He imagined what it would be like if he were transferred to a school with people who weren't accustomed to special powers or odd spectacles, like Jeff. Would life be the same? Could he make friends? Would he be shunned or have all the attention he could ever ask for? He would probably never know. Anyway, he was satisfied with life here at Smash Academy.
Which reminded him. "Hey. You went to school before you came here, right? How was it different?" He wasn't sure if he had asked this question before or not, but in any case, he forgot.

Compared to other people in the United States, Jeff was one of the rare percentages of the upper class. But after coming to Smash Academy, he quickly learned that there were people out there with super powers or magic or unimaginable intelligence. It made him feel... average.
And he hated it.

The blond continued to watch Pit put the final details on his dream catcher. "So, they really don't have anything like school in Angel Land? Do you learn any sort of academic topics? Or is it more like some sort of military where you only learn to fight and protect?"
no subject
"I thiiink... for angels, it must be like this military you say," Pit told him. "And like people, whatever you need to know, there is always a way to find out." Not to mention there was plenty of time to do so. "But keep in mind, there are academic topics here that have never yet been touched up in... well..." He swallowed and paused his work to look at Jeff. "You know how we learn history here? It made me look at something in a new way. A lot of the early subject matter... I could easily compare it to long long ago, at the beginning of human civilizations. All those stories and textbook explanations. When humankind had plenty of hurdles to jump before they could reach where they are now." A genuine smile crossed his features. "Put yourself in my place. All this time, you were kept in the dark about, well... the future! To me, this is the future. So much has changed, and yet... people are still people. I'm proud of humankind. So very proud." He straightened out on the floor once more, his legs bent at an arrow. "Wonderful, amazing human beings."
"In fact... I almost feel sometimes that. That they have no need for gods anymore."
