Basis of Mechanics #1!

Characters: Smithy and his students, anyone else who wishes to join!
What: Basis of Mechanics, #1
Where: A large classroom
When: Forward-dated to Tuesday, June 9th (because of my finals on Tuesday and Wednesday D: )
Rating: PG

As any of the students walked in, they would be greeted by a 'Harrumph!' from the teacher, Smithy. He had stood at the back of the classroom, the gold dome-shaped Smelter hanging on the wall beside him.

"You are here to learn the basis of Mechanics," said Smithy. "This will be unlike anything you have ever experienced in this school. Anything and everything that you create will come to life. The only thing that will help you... is your brain."

At that, Smelter spat a bit of red goo on the table in front of Smithy.

"This is what you will be working with." Smithy began to walk across the room, looking at the students who had walked in by then. "With this, you will create whatever your heart desires. It may look weird, but do not fear it. Observe!"

He then walked back, and started hammering on the goo, smoke starting to come up around him, and once it cleared, it showed a Shyguy with a sword for legs - a Shyper.

"Do you see now what I mean!?" Smithy nearly roared. "There is no need to 'heat' this metal! There is no need to worry about doing anything but letting your mind take control of your hammer! ... I have put a sledgehammer on each of your desks. You must leave them on your desks as you leave."

"Also, you must fill out this form and turn it in to me with your assignment:

Name:

Grade:

What is your dream? (That can be accomplished with Mechanics):

What do you aspire to be when you get out of school?:

Do you already specialize in mechanics or anything pertaining to it?:

Anthing else to add?:

He then had a glint in his eye. "I do remember that some of you had projects from previous classes, like Autoshop, however today you will not be working on any of those. You will be making something on your own - you have until the end of class to make something. Start simple; there is no need to get complex on the first day! You will be graded on how well it is designed. Do not worry about how well your artistic skills are! Let your mind take over! See what you can do!"

"Any questions may be asked of me before the assignment begins."

((OOC: You can do the assignment one of three ways - if you want, you can draw or sprite the final version (but everything it can create is monochrome, and to get color would have to be spraypainted. Otherwise, you can just describe in words what the student creates. As long as I can get an image of what it looks like, it's fine.))

Ribbon is starting to regret talking this class... and this is from stepping foot into it. The teacher, like most, is very intimidating at least and downright scary-looking at worst. Still... looks can be deceiving. You can't judge a book by its cover after all.

Taking a seat, Ribbon does her best to sign in the form given to her:

Name: Ribbon

Grade: Freshman

What is your dream? (That can be accomplished with Mechanics): To make something that can be used to help others and myself

What do you aspire to be when you get out of school?: I... I don't know...

Do you already specialize in mechanics or anything pertaining to it?: No I don't

Anything else to add?: I don't think so

What is your dream? (That can be accomplished with Mechanics): To build inventions that can be of use to my home planet.

What do you aspire to be when you get out of school?: Go back to Star Fox, I guess I don't know.

Do you already specialize in mechanics or anything pertaining to it?: Yes. I specialize in weaponry and vehicles.

Anything else to add?: No.

Slippy watched in amazement as the Shyper suddenly appeared after Smithy only hammered the material for a brief period of time. He'd never seen anything so nicely crafted built in such a short period of time.

Ribbon raised her hand.

"Um.... Sir?" she questioned Smithy with a nervous tone in her voice. "You... you want us to make something out of vomit?"

Disgusting as that they sound, Ribbon can't help but think that's the red goo Smelter had spitted out.

*Nester really didn't know what he was doing, so he just started... hammering. And hammering. And HAMMERING AND HAMMERING AND HAMMERING. He didn't even know what he was creating here, he was just smashing it all over the place and hoped for something good.

And this was what resulted, in monochrome, of course:

Image

A replica of the head of this man.

Gee, didn't this look familiar to him.*

... How the HECK did I do that? WHY did I do that?!

Slippy pounded away on his metal carefully producing a small monochrome version of a landmaster.

And then Slippy screamed "Laaaaaaandmaster!"

Orange Kid had done plenty of inventing, but never anything like this. Still, should be simple enough for him.

Orange Kid struggled to lift the hammer, before bringing it down. He kept doing this.

When he was finished, it looked like... a Suporma with legs.

The Suporma with legs sang the song 'Ode to Orange Kid.' Then it broke.

"...Sir, your materials for making these things are of poor quality. There is no other reason my amazing creation would have broken."

Ribbon tried her best with the tooks and materials she was given, but with no success. The sledgehammer is far too heavy for her and she doesn't really know how to do anything wit hthis red goo. However, she did the best she can and ended up with this:

Knuckles hammered away at his goo, hitting it pretty hard at first to get a feel for how it worked and the sort of material it really was. Once he was satisfied, his own object started to take shape. What came to be was a very nice looking Octopus.

I just won't tell anyone it was supposed to be a bunny...

When Jake was finally finished, the final result was, well...

"Awesome, looks just like Fred too!"

"... So we just... hit it?" Jeff said, unimpressed. How barbaric. Frowning, he shrugged and did as the teacher instructed.

Hesitantly at first, he hammered at the blob. Then when it didn't explode in his face or splatter across the room, he picked up speed and power.

The result was a miniature replica of the Golden Gate Bridge. Jeff had no idea how he, or rather the goop, did that, but whatever. He'd take the grade regardless.

This was the weirdest inventing that Apple Kid had ever done. Hitting things with a hammer to make them into things? That isn't how Apple Kid invented. Exactly how he invents is still a mystery but suffice to say it isn't like this.

As he hit the metal he could see it slowly shaping into something then he'd hit it again and whatever it had been turning into would change and he'd be making something else. But it never finished. It just kept going on and on and on, refusing to stay as one thing or another, the end result being Apple Kid had invented an amorphous blob. He didn't need to invent that.

This wasn't working very well.

It didn't take too long for Lash to finish working on the miniature Neotank.

"That was easy, tee hee hee!"
