Dorm Log

Who: All of Smash.
What: Dorm log! Summertime special.
Where: Student and Teacher dorms, and quite possibly beyond campus.
When: Approximately the latter half of July to the earliest of Augusts (25th - 15th)
Warnings: YOU KNOW YOURSELVES

We all know our characters experience downtime after classes and their busy schedules, and this is a good venue for those kinds of miscellaneous dorm-shenanigans to take place. Not only does it give your characters the easy chance to meet new people in a laid-back environment, but it's a good mechanism for strengthening CR. It's easy!

Feel free to begin in any way you please! Plan with (a) fellow player(s) if you'd like! Or, set up a thread and wait for characters to bite! Just add a thread with the room number (and date/time, if it matters) and the characters that reside there (just for reference!). You do not have to use one character's thread as a dual-purpose for both characters if you do not want to. Doesn't have to be a dorm room, either, if you have something else in mind.

And don't forget: things are getting pretty freaky! Shadow bugs are still rife around the school and city, causing all kinds of trouble, but most significantly capable of cloning people and even objects. For the remainder of July, the dimensional lines are a little blurred and causing alternate universe versions of characters to show up. But something ever curiouser has started to show up on campus... Bubbles?

Subspace bubbles? They look kinda like the ones dotting the sky... Dare ye enter?

If you do, you'll find that it... just ends up being a portal to another part of the school. Sometimes they may lead you into some part of town. Weird! Hopefully it doesn't lead you anywhere embarrassing, like in the middle of a stage play or in the bathroom of the opposite sex. That's mortifying.

-------
7/27: Shadow bugs go wild and clone a bunch of office supplies. Do shadow bugs get bored or something? Beware of that stapler you're about to pick up... It might be a shadow bug clone! They're animate office supplies all around the school. At least it's easy to tell the difference between the real things and the animate ones, because the clones are purple. Unless, of course, your supplies are all purple. Then you're in a bind...er.

Also, they cloned the Kraken fountain and now it's come to life. Hope you brought some slippers.

8/1: You know those hazy purple-black pockets of subspace that keep showing up across the sky? Today, a humongous one swallowed up the sun completely. For almost all of the daylight hours, there will be a full-on solar eclipse. Aww, were you working on that golden tan? Too bad, buddy. You're gonna have to wait until tomorrow.

8/5: A herd of Towtow show up at the school overnight and stop to rest. They'll be there, napping all day with that peaceful look adorned on their faces. How cute! But you wouldn't want to see them angry... Maybe that's why you should be careful not to wake them up.

For reference, here are the rooming arrangements.

Ian has been naturally very busy getting settled at the Academy that he has unfortunately not been able to make any progress on the important things in life: dicking around in the autoshop. That's okay, though, because he's really got all the time in the world now that he is for sure a real live person. Of course, any autoshop projects will really have to wait because he's acquired a slightly more pressing pet project and that is helping the new Samus Aran with his ship. Ian anticipates his 21st century tool-belt not having quite the equipment he needs, but luckily he knows exactly where to get it.

"Hey Falcon," Ian calls from outside when he sees the light on. "Didn't know you guys were back yet--"

Boy does Ian have a funny story for you!

"I was wondering if I could borrow a few tools," he pops his head in the doorway, "I was out in the forest and..."

He sort of trails off when he actually gets a visual on who he's talking to. At least this switch is slightly less alarming than the last one he encountered. It's only a matter of days until he turns up as Ianna, isn't it?

Falcon is currently half bent-over one of the autoshop's several tool storage units, rummaging through the drawers angrily and casting aside things that clearly are not the things she wants. When she hears someone come in and ask for her tools, she snaps upward.

"Are you the one who's been taking my tools?"

Because coming in here and asking for tools definitely means that Ian has been taking her tools.

"No ma'am." He snaps into one of his rarer, cooperative moments, holding up his hands to indicate innocence and shaking his head for good measure. The military had to rub off somewhere and apparently it was using respectful titles for ladies that were not also Samus Aran.

"Did someone steal your tools?" Ian is very concerned by this, he steps forward into the autoshop. He's talking pretty quickly and looking all around, which from the outside looks like very suspicious behavior. In reality he is just trying to avoid looking at Falcon's new, uh, assets. He drops his hands and starts jiggling the door handle, "I can change your locks if you need me to."

She wheels around and raises an eyebrow--despite having effectively earned the title that she now incorporates into a sort of stage name, that kind of formality is always a little weird to hear.

There are, however, more important things to think about, and soon she's back to throwing things around.

"I can change locks. I'm wondering who's been in here taking my stuff."

Ian shrugs his shoulders; he genuinely doesn't know.

"I just needed to borrow something a little more advanced than this," He pulls a normal variety screw-driver from his tool belt. "Twenty-first century tech doesn't always quite work like I want it to."

Especially on, you know, spaceships. He has no idea if this Falcon knows him or not (he's guessing not, considering his earlier encounters with the new Samus), so part of him trying to appeal to at least what he knows about the Captain: some of the things they use here are super archaic.

With Samus out of the picture, all Falcon really knows about Ian is that he's the new handyman, which is fine by her. He seems nice enough. Likes cars, which is always a plus.

"Yeah, you can come sign one out."

She emphasizes that bit about tools needing to be signed out. Just in case he is, in fact, the thief.

[personal profile] redshirted 2014-08-02 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Okay. I will sign them out." That seems reasonable. Ian is a reasonable dude who will concede to reasonable requests. "I'm working on a propulsion mechanisms and my tool belt isn't cutting it."

Ian is either working on a space craft or making some very strange modifications to the air conditioning system.

"Great."

Please enjoy this data pad. One electronic signature will enable him to borrow all of the high-tech screwdrivers that he desires. Falcon, however, raises an eyebrow at the mention of propulsion mechanisms, because that's definitely a project she wants in on.

"What kind of propulsion mechanism?"
redshirted: (hey how you doin)

[personal profile] redshirted 2014-08-05 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Doing a little bit of work on a friend's gunship," Ian spills the beans while he absentmindedly signs the datapad and hands it back to Falcon. "Smaller than I was used to in the Federation, but still packs a punch."

"On Samus' gunship." She doesn't miss a beat, at least partially to indicate to Ian that she's in the know, as far as all that is concerned.

"Crashed out in the woods," she raises an eyebrow. "Right?"

[personal profile] redshirted 2014-08-08 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
"So you know heeeeer--" Oops that is the wrong pronoun and Ian attempts to correct it mid-word. "--errm. Him. You know him?"

Falcon doesn't answer for a moment, raising an eyebrow in Ian's direction but declining to comment on the apparent misgendering.

"Yeah, I know him. Sort of." Knew of him, sure, but she hadn't actually met the guy until his crash-landing. "He just got here a few days ago."

So they had just met. That answers a lot of Ian's questions about the current status of new-Samus and new-but-old-Falcon's relationship, but on some level it creates more. Oh well. He is going to stay out of that.

"We were in the Federation together," he offers mostly of an explanation of why he's helping Samus out. It's true in a broad sense. "Same platoon."

"Really."

She sounds genuinely interested in this revelation, folding her arms and leaning against one of the work tables. "He always have that stick up his ass?"

"Weeeeeeeeeell-- Yeah. Pretty much." No real way around that. "Guess he didn't grow outta that."

"Guess not."

She finds it slightly hard to believe that Samus has any former co-workers that he's on good terms with, but Ian seems like the kind of kid who can be on good terms with just about anyone.

"So how's that going? You helping him with his ship."

Ian lets out a low whistle and then laughs to preface some good-natured ribbing between friends (Friends? Yeah, Ian would certainly classify them as that). "He really did a number on it. Not exactly the most graceful landing."

Ian begins to pack up the new very ~fance~ tools in his tool belt. These are sure to help progress. "Can't complain though, imperfect pilots keep me in business. Don't tell him I called him that."
showmeyourboobs: (pic#8037738)

[personal profile] showmeyourboobs 2014-08-15 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"I already called him that."

She does enjoy taking people down pegs, after all, and telling Samus he was a shit pilot is a good way to do it. Obviously he's not actually a shit pilot, but after having made a crash landing, it's an easy enough target. She's just calling them like she sees them, of course.

"I got my start working on starships. And cars, but ships, too. Never seen tech like his, though."
redshirted: (so then i told her)

[personal profile] redshirted 2014-08-19 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, it's definitely unique. Too bad he never really let me work on it until now that he's in a bind." Ian laughs, but of course he's happy to help. That doesn't mean he's not taking mental pictures of the inner workings of Samus' ship (but mostly out of his insatiable curiosity and desire to work on something actually relevant to his skill set).

"It's the same as what he'd had back in the Federation too. Guess all those years--," and a whole alternate universe, "--didn't change his taste in color schemes."
showmeyourboobs: (pic#8037734)

[personal profile] showmeyourboobs 2014-08-20 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
"It's awful. It's the worst-looking ship I've ever seen."

Falcon, clearly, despite her own purple, vaguely phallic ship, has absolutely no problem ripping on a spacecraft that looks like the guy's helmet.

"He's lucky the tech is impressive. Orange?"
redshirted: (so then i told her)

Ian's laughter continues, shrugging all the same. From getting to know the adult Samus, he's come to understand she/he has gained quite the intimidating reputation. It's nice to learn that there are some outside their platoon that could have a (well-intentioned!) laugh about some of Samus' style choices.

"It had to be a matching set," he musters through peals of laughter.

Falcon doesn't seem to get what's so funny--partially because she, too is guilty of motif, but mostly because it's just interesting to see the reaction of someone who's known Samus for a long time. She rubs her chin, looking Ian up and down, remembering something that Samus drunkenly blurted on their outing the other night.

"Was he really raised by birds?"

She kind of feels like that would explain a lot.
