Pink is everywhere. No matter where you look, you're sure to see the signs of soft pink and white blossoms. There's a fresh spark of life filling the air and just beckoning for everyone to come outside and enjoy the sweet scents of spring. Well, except for you, people with springtime allergies. They just want to make you miserable. But for everyone else, it was a wonderful amazing time to be had.

There are wonderful spots for picnicking! Frolic inducing atmosphere and the space to do it! Every so often you will see vendors selling treats for the event! Cosplayers taking advantage of their natural environments for photo ops! Hot date spots! Blossoms! Sparkles! Everywhere! Even when it rains.

This log is completely open! You can do whatever you'd like with whomever you'd like whenever you'd like. Just start up a thread and go!

Have fun! ♥

The blossoms were fine. They covered the track field, but that was fine. Eli couldn't deny that it was pretty. Not the sort of thing one would usually see in Unova.

On the first day of the festival, Eli took a break from her rigorous training schedule to check it out. When she spotted Kanji- she hadn't seen him for a few days- she jogged over to catch up with him.

"Hey, you," she greeted him. Aggressively, not playfully.

Oh. It was Eli. He honestly wasn't sure how much time he wanted to spend with her after their last encounter. And judging by the tone of her voice, this couldn't be anything pleasant.

"What?" he answered, looking up at her from where he sat.
hissyfit: (10; boring the shit out of me.)

There was a pause before Eli said anything. She inspected Kanji with a critical look- her eyes narrowed and the corners of her mouth turned down disapprovingly. It had been nearly two weeks since they'd last seen each other and it hadn't been a particularly pleasant encounter either.

"Nothing," she replied, sounding a little offended. She hesitated, then took a seat across from where he sat. Her posture was perfect. "...Where have you been?"

Oh, right... Kanji had kind of left the school without telling anyone. And he frankly did not want to talk about what happened at home in Inaba. That was confidential, and it's not like many would even believe him.

"Oh, uh, I went back to Inaba for a week. Sorry, I kinda forgot to tell people."

Eli just barely accepted his apology, acknowledging it with a subtle nod of her head. She kept her eyes fixed on him, trying to read his expression.

"Was it an alright trip?" she asked, not entirely concerned about the answer. Small talk was not her strong suit.

When Eli asked him about that, he couldn't actually keep his eyes on her. He had no idea how to answer that. But, he ended up doing so anyway.

"Yeah, it was pretty good," he said. Good in the sense that they finally put a stop to the Shadow world, good in the sense that he bonded with Yu more, but it was a mixture of so much complication.

"What 'bout you?" he asked, trying to steer the subject away from that, "What've you been up to?"

Every little move Kanji made, Eli noticed. She noticed and then she analyzed, trying to figure out exactly what he was feeling. That was so much more interesting than whatever he actually answered with. The way he couldn't keep eye contact was particularly telling. Then he quickly changed the subject without telling her how it had gone.

She determined this meant one of two things. Either his trip wasn't actually "pretty good," and he didn't trust her enough to talk about it. Or he was too uncomfortable to speak to her after they'd last seen each other. Or, really, it could have been both. Her eyes narrowed a little more.

"Training," she answered simply. Entirely true. She'd been in a particularly shitty mood as things with Chika started to get complicated, and running and training herself to exhaustion was the best way to release the tension.
findthepenguin: (Oh...)

"Huh, sounds fun," he said while nodding. Except training wasn't "fun" in the most literal sense of the word, but Kanji's mind was all over the place right now. Eli had been right on many accounts - their last encounter made things super-awkward for him, and he really couldn't talk about his trip to Inaba.

He really had no idea what to say. He didn't really feel like inviting her anywhere, or to do anything. And he could feel her eyes on him, watching him, judging him. It was so uncomfortable how she always did that, and it was something Kanji hated to experience from anyone.
hissyfit: (11; what the actual fuck.)

Eli immediately responded with a defined frown. It wasn't fun. Training was serious; it was important, necessary. Winning was fun. But there was no winning in training.

"Not really," she replied, narrowing her eyes again. "It's not meant to be, though."

Kanji shrugged at this. He thought training could be fun.

"It can be fun if you make it fun," he offered. Beating up Shadows was pretty fun sometimes when it wasn't stressful. And he figured Eli enjoyed kicking Kanji that one time.
hissyfit: (07; tough mutha.)

Had Kanji mentioned that, she would have calmly insisted that their fight hadn't been training; that was fighting. Fighting involved winning. She'd won. Thus, it was fun.

"It can be fun if you don't take it ssseriousssly," she said, flicking her forked tongue irritably out of habit. She paused before continuing, reigning in a little of her natural aggression. "Which I do. I train to fight, and I fight to win. If I don't take my training seriously, I don't win. And what's the point of doing anything if it isn't to win?"
findthepenguin: (My persona and me)

[personal profile] findthepenguin 2012-04-07 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Okay Kanji was still trying to get used to that tongue thing. Although Eli could do amazing things with that tongue I mean no. He had seen it before, but it was still so weird. It was kind of cool, though, but it usually caught him off-guard.

"Well, that's your definition of training. If you make it enjoyable, you'll look forward to it, and then you'll do it more often!"

Then he listened to her last statement and sat up, giving her a weird look.

"What's the point of something if you don't win? Geez, man. Winning ain't everything. You don't win a fight, and you learn from it and you do better next time."

Kanji, when did you become so philosophical? Of course, that was Yu's influence speaking somewhat.
hissyfit: (03; anything you can do i can do better.)

[personal profile] hissyfit 2012-04-10 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Why do you try and do better next time?" Eli asked rhetorically. "To win. Ultimately, it's all about winning."

She matched his weird look with an uncharacteristically calm stare. There was an intensity in her eyes, but she wasn't giving him any sort of unimpressed frown this time. What Kanji had said made sense, but she wasn't about to say so out loud.

"For some people, winning is everything. I was taught not to try unless I expect to win."

Eli's first statement hit a nerve inside Kanji. Yeah, he was still sore about losing to her during that match. Physically, thankfully, the wound had healed, due to it being in the Stadium, but his pride was only beginning to heal.

She might have noticed the minutely irritated expression that crossed his features at that moment, but he was able to quickly resume his former somewhat-serious look.

He didn't know the circumstances behind what Eli had been told, but he could sympathize. He thought of his father's dying words, the very words that haunted him to this day. In a way it was similar, but he wasn't about to talk about that either.

"Eh, whatever," he finally said.
hissyfit: (02; supremely annoyed.)

[personal profile] hissyfit 2012-04-13 08:45 am (UTC)(link)
Of course she noticed. She never stopped studying him whenever they were together. At the expression, she wondered if she had struck a chord with what she'd said. Then she wondered exactly what it is that she'd said to make him tick.

The way he brushed her off with a lazy whatever spoke volumes in and of itself, too. Her eyes narrowed slightly as she tried to piece together what he was responding to and why he was responding the way he had.

"Whatever," she repeated, speaking pointedly. After a brief pause, she spoke again. "...I didn't expect to see you out here. Cherry blossom festivals don't exactly seem your style."

Kanji raised an eyebrow at her, wondering what she meant by that. Was she mocking him? Praising his masculinity? (Doubtful.) It was probably some form of mockery, knowing her. Knowing the way she repeated his phrase "Whatever."

He rolled his eyes, then, and shifted his position on the bench, sloppily leaning back with his arms behind him.

"What. Can't a guy enjoy a nice day?"
