As a quiet Friday dawned on the school's campus, one could perhaps...feel it in the air. A creeping chill, a silent, barely-detectable indication that yes. Tonight would be the night.
By Saturday morning, the entire academy would be covered in snow.
BUT WAIT
That wasn't all--a large pine tree had made an appearance on the main quad, in desperate need of decoration.
What: SNOW
When: DECEMBER 6th
Where: EVERYWHERE

Cut and dry, just like that. Because it was true. He knew there was stuff he had to be missing. What he did know was that it was always the three of them. Falcon, Samus, and Snake. The awkward love triangle. Something he could let go of in the present, but maybe in the past it hadn't been so simple. Where the days currently stood, he just wanted to be what she needed of him, when she needed it. And he wanted to be that to Falcon, too.
But that was stuff one didn't say.
"A lot of stuff, though. Nothing I hold against you or me, or Samus." He looked over to Falcon and shook his head. "The past is the past. Better not to get held up in it. It just makes us who we are today, but it's what we do right now that determines who we'll become. So the present is more important."

Which was what Falcon figured, anyway. Maybe it was easier for Snake to come to terms with everything if he didn't have all the details--the Captain wasn't sure he'd ever be able to let go of that baggage. No regrets, of course, but with that he'd accepted that they'd never be the team they once were.
"You remember enough."
