Was he being too abrasive? Perhaps, but he was pretty much known for being a wet blanket (no pun intended). His idea of fun was definitely not the ruder end of the spectrum of 'rough-housing'.

Shadow, however, wasn't leaving in full. He was going to remain by the edge of the pool, feet sunk into the water once more. It really was refreshing in this scalding heat, to be sure.
