Taste the Rainbow
Who: Gordon, Connor, Phoenix
When: After the Maid Cafe, before Prom
Where: Teacher Dorms
What: Testing candy samples from the Maid Cafe
Warning: DUDE BE TRIPPIN' BALLS, YO.
The lollipops clattered in a colorful pile on the kitchen table. The trio had gained them from the Maid Cafe earlier that evening, when Gordon had noticed the disurbing amount of sweets that could potentially be drugged. He wasn't crazy about testing them out themselves, but he agreed with Connor and Phoenix in that we didn't have time to send them to the city for some lab tech to lackadaisically analyze for three weeks. They needed a faster way to find out, and well... the most direct way was to test them out themselves.
The Physics teacher immediately pulls up a chair and grabs a paring knife, scoring and breaking each of the candies into two pieces. Putting both pieces into a single small bag each. Labeling them.
"Connor, far as I can figure we can give you one of these every half-hour; that should be long enough for us to tell if symptoms are manifesting or not. I'll give you some simple cognitive tests--the same one I gave you earlier, they call that a 'control'--and then give you the next specimen. When we do see symptoms, we'll immediately stop and get you into a side room to sleep it off."
Hopefully.
"Phoenix, I need you to help me keep all these damn candies straight." He's already built a small mound of colorful packets around him that would raise the eyebrow of any controlled substance officer, even those who never heard of consciousness-expanding sweets before. "Also you've experienced this drug firsthand so you can verify a positive drug specimen..."
He stops and turns back to them. "...Am I forgetting anything?"

As far as he was concerned, he was ready for this hours ago. But listening to his plan was a good idea, he was the modern scientist afterall. It made logical sense to listen to him.
And they had a lot of candies to go through.
"I am hoping we find one and soon."
no subject
"Well, I don't really know about the different varieties," he admitted. "I just know that I took a blue one last summer, and... I don't know if that's what acid trips are supposed to be like, but I'd guess it was something similar to that."
Still, he gave a sympathetic look toward Connor, a way of silently apologizing for putting him through this. He was about to open his mouth to offer himself in Connor's place, but... Well, while Phoenix was a selfless person to a degree, there were instances where he was not. And he had already offered up himself before, to which Connor declined, so...

"Here, let's not waste any time. Just take one half and make sure we get the bag back. Speaking of which, uh... what do we plan to do for the next half-hour? Uh, or any subsequent ones after that?"
This is the part he hadn't thought through. The fact that they were going to stare each other down with nothing to break the tension for a half-hour at a time.
"--We should think of something."
no subject
He just listened in as he decided to stick lollipop half number one inside his mouth.
Crunch crunch crunch...
Hrm, if there wasn't the slight anxiety of it being drugged...it didn't taste too bad. This one was red. Cherry flavor? Kinda tasted like overly sweet sugary cherries. A bit too sweet for him. But he can take it.
no subject
He had Rhys's number, of course, as well as others.
"But I'm guessing we should run tests to see how each drug affects him? Make him do certain things?"
He hesitantly watched Connor as soon as he heard that crunching sound. Welp... here goes nothing.
no subject
"Already got that covered. That's what the cognitive tests I gave him earlier were for." He adds with a nod, actually smiling a little. "That was a baseline comparison. A control... How're you feeling, Connor?"
no subject
What was he supposed to be feeling anyway? He had no idea.
Clearly he should be more scared that he was right now. But he was committed to it. Not a single thought came to him to back down. He was doing this.
But really though, was he supposed to look for anything?
"I feel fine now. Is there something I should be aware of? Nothing seems out of the ordinary."
no subject
or start frantically clicking on everything in the room and examining them."Well uh... I'm not sure what the red ones do... Wouldn't it take a bit for it to kick in, anyway?" He was speaking a bit quicker than usual, his nervousness now kicking in. What if this caused him to hulk out or something and attack everyone?
no subject
Oi watch it, those psy-locks are there for a reason dammit"It would. That was mostly for the sake of conversation." He says through a sigh, grabbing an empty food container nearby and scooping the packets into it. "But Connor? If you start feeling jittery, sleepy, start seeing things that aren't real or anything else unusual, let me know. Let us know." He adds, gesturing between himself and Phoenix.
A little later...
"All right, Connor, let's test you out."
It's a fairly simple bit of mental gymnastics; simple arithmetic (two plus six equals...), a memory puzzle (If John has two apples, Susie with five apples, Dick with three and Elmer with two... how many people did I just list?) simple memory, things like that. Connor's already gone through this once already, so if he's lucid he should have no problem.
no subject
Once he was done. He went silent.
So far...so good, yet again.
"...When should I test another?"
Whoa, not too fast.
no subject
He did recall that one of the lollipops affected physical endurance - he wasn't sure if it was this one, though. But a lot of them did all different things.
no subject
"...What do do you suggest?"
He doesn't exactly have a freeweight set in the dorm, after all.
no subject
Fine.
Well they were just being careful but.
Connor then got up. Walked to one end of the room. Walked back. Jumped on the chair he sat on. Jumped off. Lifted chair up. Lifted chair down.
Shrugged his shoulders.
See he's fine, right?
no subject
Well, chairs weren't that heavy, right?
Phoenix looked over to Gordon with an eyebrow raised. Silently asking if that was normal, if that was okay to test.
no subject
"Good enough for me."
no subject
"Then let us not waste any more time, we need to keep going."
Regardless of what happened, what you two guys did.
POP goes in another one.
no subject
Phoenix fiddled with his cuffs, twirled a stray lock of hair in his finger... Well, he was getting bored and fidgety. Nothing much was happening yet.
"Huh?" He suddenly remembered what he was doing. "Oh... Is this another red one?"
no subject
"Looks like a green one." He observes, marking the time on the half-empty packet.
no subject
He actually might be fascinated and you might not have a hard time making him a useless third wheel in a three player game of something.
Really. It won't be hard.
...By the way, now it tasted like lime and it was sour and Connor didn't like it too much.
He might've scrunched his face a little.
"Tastes...odd. The flavor."
no subject
Not that I drew a dumb sketch of him playing with toy dinosaurs while on the phone with legal aid."Odd flavor?" he muttered, glancing at Gordon. "Is that significant at all?" He wasn't a science guy, okay. He'd only remember it if it had something to do with legal issues. Which it might. So he'll probably remember that the green lollipop has an odd flavor. Yes good.
They are all the most mature of adults.
...His violent fallback games are probably not the best idea, however. Might cause some problems for the possibly-drugged-warrior-turned-janitor in the room with them. Something not violent, but playable by more than one character, able to hold their attention... He turns back to the other two and offers a second controller as...
Are those karts driving across the screen?
"Anyone want to play?"
