but where you are's where i belong
Who: Marie, Red.
What: Marie jogs Red's memory by taking up stripping.
Where: Red's dorm.
When: February 13th, late morning.
Warnings: i posted two things in a row i'm sorry. u_u
Before morning had even had a chance to pass, Red's bed was littered with crumpled up sheets of origami paper. Amongst the mess were a handful of not-so-neatly folded... somethings. And on the trainer's nightstand- keeping the warm pot of tea and cups company- there were about a dozen cranes that had managed to avoid being crushed by the Wartortle's impatient hands.
Marie sat at the foot of his trainer's bed, across from him, working at another crane. He tried to fold with care, creasing the paper against a hardcover book he held in his lap. Perhaps he was starting to get the hang of it... The pair had been quiet for some time- Marie breaking the silence, occasionally, to huff at a mistake- and the turtle was rather content with it being that way. He looked up to see whatever progress Red had made, setting his own aside for a moment.

"I think I'm getting better," he admitted, quietly. Idly, he fiddled with the half-folded paper in his hands. "Just slower. The slower I go, the better they come out."
Admittedly, he envied the trainer's speed to some extent. The fact that Red was getting quicker with each crane didn't go unnoticed by the Wartortle. And Marie had always been a little impatient with arts and crafts- he'd ruined paintings he'd done with Spinny by being too impatient with letting the paint dry- which made having to slow his pace that much more difficult.
"You're doing really good," Marie added, letting his shy smile return ever-so-subtly. He set the unfinished crane back on the book in his lap and lazily reached his hand towards Red's nightstand. "Can you pass me my tea?"

"Yeah... I guess so," he replied, quietly. Sure, he might get faster eventually, but it would have been nice to be at the same pace as his trainer. Idly, he wondered how long it would take for the two of them to make a thousand of the cranes. Red's mother had claimed folding a thousand cranes promises a wish to be granted...
When Marie looked back up at Red, he noticed his eyes lingering on his neck. Subconsciously, he touched a gentle hand to the spot and looked at Red expectantly. It occurred to him that his trainer hadn't seen his tattoo before- even before he forgot everything, Marie hadn't had the opportunity to show it off. He didn't say anything, though, and left it up to Red to ask first.

Gracelessly, Marie reached as far as he could to set his cup of tea back on the nightstand. Then, resuming his previous position, he sat up a little straighter and tried to show his trainer with his hands. "It's, uh-" he started, holding one hand to the hip opposite the side where the tattoo covered his neck. "About this big, I guess?" He held his other hand against his shoulder.
"It's all across my back, kinda like Vinnie's," Marie admitted, sounding a little shy about it. The purpose of the tattoo had been to cover the bite marks Char had left on his shoulder, but the placement and design of it had been heavily influenced by his brother. A pause, and Marie looked shier still.
"Do you want to see it?" he asked, timidly. "I mean, like, if you don't, that's, like, fine or whatever."
no subject
"Yeah, that's fine."
It was fine, really. But that didn't mean he wasn't at least a little nervous about it. Slowly and shyly, Marie lifted his shirt over his head and set it aside. Just as Marie had said, the tattoo stretched all the way across his back. Petals and flowers resembling that of a Venusaur's flower were carried from midway across his back, over his shoulder. If Red squinted, he might have been able to make out the faint bitemark, although it was covered fairly well.
There were also three more marks across the Wartortle's chest. Darker than the scars on his face, and made in the opposite direction. A vial of Mystic Water- usually tucked under his shirt or zipped under a hoodie- hung around his neck. It had been a gift from Red for his 17th birthday.

Marie looked up at Red for just a moment. Just long enough to notice where he was looking, even though he'd just mentioned the necklace. Sort of unconsciously, he touched the mystic water and took his eyes away from his trainer to look at it.
"Yeah, you gave it to me..."
His expression was hard to read. Torn between a shy smile and an outright frown, he stared down at the vial of water with great intensity. Receiving the vial from the trainer wasn't any sort of grand memory, but it was a fond one, regardless. But it hurt to remember that Red likely didn't even remember giving it to him...

"Yeah... Last year," he replied, sounding maybe a little accusatory. Although, not on purpose. His expression softened- as did his tone- and he looked up to ask, "Do you remember giving it to me?"
Maybe the vial had jogged the trainer's memory; but what a curious thing for that to happen with. Why hadn't the scars on his face reminded him of anything? Why didn't Sasha's chipped horn make him remember? It made Marie just a smidge cross, although he couldn't explain to himself exactly why.
At the same time, though, there was a cautious sense of relief. Perhaps Red had only guessed about when he'd given him the trinket, but if he really had remembered... Maybe that was a sign that he'd start remembering other things.

He didn't say much else about it, though. As if he were testing Red, seeing if he'd remember. Maybe he wasn't finishing his thought because he thought the memory was so strange it couldn't have been true... As another hint, he added, "I came to you. You said I could because I was upset."
His expression remained soft, but guarded. There was something subtly aggressive about the way he tried to fill in the gaps of Red's memory. Frustration or desperation, or some mix of the two.

probably like the ugliest sweater ever"You do remember."
He spoke without even thinking about it and stared back at Red. For a sliver of a second, Marie thought that he might cry. Would he remember more, though, was the question at the front of Marie's mind. He would have shown Red everything, every trinket or item that might make Red remember something. In the back of his mind, he bitterly wondered if he'd remember why he'd left if Marie shared the note he'd left him months ago.
It occurred to Marie how bizarre it must have sounded to be reassured that, yes, he did indeed look like Bulba. Done testing the trainer for now, Marie supplied context; "We were been bodyswapped. He was in my body for like a week, or whatever, and I was in his. It was literally the worst thing ever."

Admittedly, it was kind of embarrassing. Why did that have to be the first thing Red remembered? Regardless, Marie quietly mumbled back, "Yeah."
Slowly, Marie put his shirt back on. He carefully lifted himself out of bed and rooted around on the floor for one of his hoodies to put over it. He pulled the Mystic Water out from under his shirt and let it hang, visible, against his chest. As if hiding it would somehow make Red forget again...
"Do you remember anything else?" he asked, cautiously.
