Sure, FDC was bigger than Viridian, but in many ways, Smash was a lot like Pallet.

It was where things began. Clearly, the "things" in question were less journeys of self discovery and more getting turned into a chipmunk by accident, but regardless. The thing that reminded Green of Pallet the most was how many stars were visible. On nights like this, the small child that Green used to be would lie down in the grass with Red and Blue, just staring up at the sky.

He hadn't done anything like that with another human in a long, long time.

Imagine his surprise when he found a similarly grown Blue alone on one of the campus fields, doing just that.

"Yo, I know you're used to the ramblin' lifestyle, but being alone like this so late is just asking for trouble at this school."
travelingbelle: (I really like that)

Unlike the Oak, the Bluebell was more practiced in revisiting their old activities. At least as far as she was aware. An Ivysaur probably would have stood to correct her.

But the point still stood that she was no stranger to spending her evenings sprawled out in the grass, staring up at all the tiny lights that flickered in the sky. It had been a routine all through her journeys. From Kanto, to Johto, all the way to Hoenn and beyond. No matter where she was and how different everything was around her, how new and strange and fantastic... she'd always be able to look up and know that she was looking at the same sky her friends were, and she never felt very far away at all.

It was a little different here. There were a few stars she recognized, and a few that she didn't. It might have been very disconnecting if it hadn't been for the fact that--

Blue blinked out of her thoughts and twisted her head around to look up at Green. Her surprise at his presence remained evident as she waved his worries off. In all likelihood, there was probably a Mightyena lingering close to the fields or closer. She traced a few starlines with her fingertips or.. no, maybe she was waving him over. There was some ambiguous hand motions going on in the air.

"Then it's good I'm not alone then, huh?"
travelingbelle: (What's away up there?)

She looked up at him as she watched him sit, her expression easing into a comfortable smile.

"That's fine. It is getting kind of late."

She could have asked him what he was doing out there so late on his own, but she didn't. It was just one of those things that was obvious enough already. Blue turned her eyes back up towards the sky.

"Have you noticed how many different ones there are here?"
travelingbelle: (Questioning trust)

"Yeah... It's really kind of strange."

She lifted her hand again, and this time she definitely was moving it over the ambiguous pictures in the sky as she stared up at them through her fingers.

"I could always count on the sky to be the same no matter where I went. It's really weird that it's not... I knew I could always find my way home before, but I don't know if I'd find the right way if I followed them back from here."

"... That was so unbelievably corny."

But she wasn't laughing. No. Even if she had sort of glanced away, it was easy to tell how much she was smiling over something so supposedly corny. It was definitely corny. Undeniably corny. So stupidly corny that it was almost funny that it felt mostly true. Blue looked back at him suddenly, letting him get the full sight of her beaming face if he was looking, before she reached out to yank on the back of his coat.

"Get down here and look at them properly with me."
travelingbelle: (Smile cause you mean it)

Green tomatoes were definitely things Blue would have called him out on, so it was wonderfully good for the moment that it was so dark and he was so flat on his back now. She did allow a small chuckle out over his mumbled continuations. That was just so much like him to try and make something less of what he might have meant.

The sound was short lived. She enjoyed the silence that followed, even if it wasn't really truly silent. It never was. There was always the rustle of leaves and grass, or the sound of someone's breathing beside her. She had grown so accustomed to it being the sound of her pokemon. It had been years since it was the sound of the boy beside her.

"Mhmm."

Blue gave a deep sigh of content.

"I missed this."
travelingbelle: (green/ its nice like this)

Blue was so caught up in the blanket of lights that she would have never noticed his look. She turned her head a little towards him now though. "That's going to take a while."

Except that hardly seemed like a problem. Blue followed suit, lifting her hand up besides his. There was a star that she had already picked out from her star-gazing head start, and she was immediately pointing it out in all of its bright glory.

"That one's Green, just to get that out of the way," she said with a slightly cheeky grin.
travelingbelle: (Glasses make me a cutie)

The girl laughed. "I'm not that bad!" Nevermind the fact that she had been very lightly tapping the toes of her shoes together and rolling her other fingers against the grass. Blue didn't notice the little unconscious actions, so clearly Green didn't either.

"I'm glad they're that close. It's easier to remember where they are that way." Her lips pursed slightly as she looked at them intently, apparently committing them to memory. Up her finger went, hesitantly at first and then with more sureness as Blue gave a little nod to herself.

"They're underneath a flower."

"Bluh," was Blue's very charming response.

Though it wasn't as if she was entirely against the notion, seeing as she still thumbed through her plant book whenever she was looking for names.

It was really just mostly her name. Probably more likely the circumstances. It was still a fitting constellation.
travelingbelle: (Bored or contemplating?)

"I think we work better that way."

Even if one of them was missing, it still gave them some sort of unspoken link. They just fit well together. Blue had to sort of wonder if anything would have been different if she hadn't insisted on the shorter name. If friendships would have gone differently or if she would have gone through life in a different way. It seemed like such a small detail, but it meant so much towards who you were.

"It's kind of weird. Even mom's finally started saying just Blue. She used to be the only one that didn't."
travelingbelle: (Cutie in my lap)

"Yeah, he is. They were getting a handful of new Bulbasaurs settled in before I left."
travelingbelle: (Hee! :D)

She looked over at him and grinned.

"Maybe you'll get a good idea when they all come knocking on your door."
travelingbelle: (Lets look at it logically)

[personal profile] travelingbelle 2012-10-24 10:14 am (UTC)(link)
Blue laughed. She had to wonder just how many were waiting for him to ship back to Viridian at any given time. "Ground might not be your type, but at least the colors are right."

She rolled over on to her side at this point, facing him. "What would you want it to be called? It's a bit tricky to just pin down one thing for you, I think."
travelingbelle: (Ha ha ha you're dumb)

"Perhaps you could just call it the ego badge and be done with it," she came back with a smirk.
