The chamber is illuminated with thousands of candles, all of which are glowing with an eerie, black light. A black fog lurches across the cold stone floor.

It is very dark.

On the far side of the chamber is a tomb, its lid torn off. There is an entity there, radiating with an evil energy.

"This body is unfamiliar to me... Yess, too unfamiliar... Let me assume my true form and show you real power..."

The evil feeling becomes oppressive, as the figure disappears in shadow, surrounded by the form of the demon that had been unleashed: the Shadow Queen.

"In this form your attacks are like those of a child to me... You are lucky... You will perish with the honor of having seen true terror and power! Muh huh huh huh huh..."

That was a voice that Flurrie hoped to never hear again in her life. Fear gripped her as she watched this scene play out again. She remembered it vividly, mostly because she had a nightmare about it every now and then. They had anticipated a trying battle, but nothing had prepared them for the demon that had awakened, possessed Princess Peach, and was preparing to veil the land in shadow.

It was the first time in her life she felt truly afraid.

Goombella didn't want to be here. Why had she gone in that stupid door in the big void? Why did she think that would be a good idea? This was a point in her life she had hoped she'd never have to think about again. But there she was.

The Shadow Queen.

Possessing Peach.

"F-Flurrie... What's going on?" Goombella asked. "We already did this before... didn't we?"

"We did." Flurrie said, unable to peel her eyes away from the scene that was playing out before them. "Dear, I'm pinching myself and nothing's happening."

Maybe she just. needs to pinch harder.

"I don't... I don't think we're dreaming," she replied.

Why is Apple Kid in a seat in an audience? This is weird.

And smelly.

"Why am I in an audience?" he asked to the people on stage.

Wait, there's an audience?

Flurrie looked out and spotted the boy in the audience. Oh, no! A student from school!

"Oh, goodness! It's very dangerous here, get away while you can, dahling!"

"Are you having problems with your timelines as well?" he asked over the din of the Goombas and Paratroopas chatting amongst themselves.

"Flurrie, was that audience always there?" Goombella asked.

"Timelines? Whatever do you mean, dear?" Flurrie asked, then turned to Goombella. "Come to think of it, I can't quite recall! How in the world did they get down here?"

"Evidently we're all experiencing some sort of temporal distortion thanks to an errant time-beast eating part of the main timeline, thusly sending us back into earlier times along our own personal timelines. I didn't see it myself, but a hedgehog told me it was a purple beast."

The audience has always been here, Flurry. You are a star of the stage, the... largest... actress of your age.

"I don't really get it," Goombella said, "but I think right now we've got a bigger problem..."

And not a moment too soon, since it looked like the Shadow Queen was attacking!
