Who: Cyrus and Cynthia (I've wanted to write that for SO LONG)
What: THROWDOWN
Where: Library, Outside
When: Wednesday, 4th Wall Week, c. 2 pm
Warnings: Long-winded rambling speeches, pokémon battles
He'd been prevented from approaching the portal. This grated on Cyrus, though he didn't show it, because it meant he was unable to research it directly. Newcomers continued to come through and yet some force prevented him from coming any further to it than the doorway to the dorm that contained it.
So he'd been forced to watch indirectly, observing from the hallway. But there was almost nothing he could do without the proper tools. So right now he was in the library making notes on how to construct something to observe the bizarre vortex, thick books on everything from telescopes to electron microscopes open and spread out on the table in front of him.
And as always, he was talking, muttering to himself. "...observable universe, only obtainable through means once held as fantastic...how we change! And yet how much we remain the same, each advancement fought against bitterly, vows broken against the false gods of the universe..." and so on.

He wasn't even looking at her, but writing down something from his book, something he'd known for decades and yet wrote down anyway just to avoid her direction.
"Even assuming the idea that you speak only of this world, you still contradict yourself in the view that anything outside common occurance is an abnormality in the laws of the universe. Any scientist must keep an open mind towards the expansion of their knowledge, regarding any future discoveries. But then..."
Now he did look at her, just for a moment. "You are not a scientist."

So she takes the fun route instead.
"And here I thought imagining an emotional version of you was enough expanding!" She says, and her smile borders on a smirk even through her chuckles.

I used 'point out' twice in a row /shoots self
"He would be much happier, for one," It comes out almost without thinking, and it's completely honest, too. It wasn't as naive as it was hopelessly optimistic of her, but all Cynthia ever wanted was pretty much that - a world where everyone was smiling. "He might not be an incredibly warm person, or even show affection easily, but he would have close acquaintances and people to call his friends. His world wouldn't be perfect, but it would be good enough."
*manipulates time, un-shoots you*
He sighed, heavy with frustration. "...but I do not suppose that means anything to you. What I say falls on willfully deaf ears. All I have tried to teach you..."
THAT GLARING MISTAKE IS STILL THERE /shoots self again
"Nothing is ever perfect," It takes her a moment to speak again, her tone much quieter than it was not too long ago. "Not the world, not people, not anything. And that's exactly what makes everything so interesting-- what makes everything so challenging."
SO YOU ARE SAYING YOU WANT ME TO UNDO MORE TIME IS THAT IT?
He was used to hearing it, and it no longer infuriated him. It just...saddened him. Sadness, at least, wouldn't show up in his expression or tone.
"That is exactly it. Nothing is perfect. We and everything were created by a flawed god and thus exist in an imperfect world."
NO I'M SAYING YOU SHOULD JUST LET ME DIE MY HONORABLE DEATH
FOOLISHNESS THEN WE WOULD NOT GET TO THE BATTLE PART
"And I dream of giving them the ability to become truly the best."
It was, as she well knew, highly unusual for him to stop talking after just one sentence.
I'M NOT GOOD AT WRITING BATTLES ANYWAY
Still, she had spoken enough of her mind for the day, and there were other things she should be focusing on at the moment.
"I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree, then," There was a 'for now' hidden somewhere in there, and perhaps he could tell. But Cynthia, being Cynthia, would not just let it die without one more uplifting attempt. "Ah, I still have to wonder if that other you would be this difficult!"
... uplifting, tormenting, it was all the same.
And I will be late tagging so you know but I will tag in due time! I need Dialga for this...
At this point he was almost playing her game, though he would deny doing so, despite being unable to resist adding a jab at her. "I simply wonder what your counterpart would be. Would she be akin to I as I am now, if the me that exists there is closer to you?"
Totally fine! Next week will be 4th wall time for me so I'll be all over the place |D
"To be honest, I don't think any version of you could ever be conformist," She starts, her tone cool yet much more cheerful than before. "He would likely still try to change the state of things, only in ways that were not as extreme." Which is to say, still an idealist, but without a god complex. Yes, that didn't sound nearly as difficult as this Cyrus.
"As for the other me," There's a very brief pause before she chuckles at her own thoughts. "The only thing I know for sure is that she would still be as stubborn and pushy as I am!"
I will need to get in on that action.
It starts tonight! Though I think I'll only post tomorrow or so
"Not necessarily!" She lifts her index finger, as though to make a point. "In the same way you wouldn't ever be a conformist, I don't think I could ever have an issue with emotions. So that's one thing I'd be stubborn about!"
Haha you'll have to link me since you didn't say which game~
Getting a rise out of her wasn't his intention, but it was something he knew would happen. Not as if he cared, although it did once again prove his point that she was addicted to possessing emotion.
"And yet you would still force the world to conform to your will. How poisonous."
Of course, she would call him out on doing the same, and that she couldn't understand the difference between them was yet another sign of her inferiority. "Of course, to permit emotions to exist is to let a terminal illness remain uncured. The difference between us, Champion, is that I view the big picture. A universal scale. Nothing less can be given. And you, in that case, would give nothing of the sort."
Oops, that would be Discedo! I sent you a PM with the link o/
"I see having a remotely normal conversation with you is nigh impossible," A small sigh wells forth, though she's far from being defeated. "It's a shame, really."
Unbeknownst to him, her free hand is fiddling with the set of pokeballs attached to her belt, a new idea gaining shape. There was one other way of getting to know a person that she was quite fond of employing, and she might just have to resort to it.
It was, thankfully, one that required very few words.

He noticed what her hand was over when he stood to reach for another book, which he immediately set aside.
They would let their skill speak for them. Of course, any outcome was unimportant. It was what their actions would reveal that was vital.
He nodded knowingly, turning towards the nearest exit.
