Roomie detectives are go
Who: Char, Naoto
What: Solvin' a mysterious forest mystery
Where: The forest, duuuhhh
When: UH. Backdated to forever ago. Dear god. Like... March 10th. Wow. Continued from this thread.
The forest wasn't an easy place to navigate at night; a pity, because Char and Naoto had a long way to go. It would have been far quicker and easier to simply fly there, but that was a privilege that Char reserved for only a precious few. At the very least, he was supplying a built-in lantern; Naoto wouldn't have to worry about losing sight of him or that beacon on his tailtip.
Char chose to move in silence. He didn't say a word until they'd been walking for a long while, suddenly drawing up to a swift halt.
"This forest here's part of my huntin' grounds, Souji. A Charizard notices when something's off in his territory, and something's definitely off."
He nodded toward the ground in front of them, tail flaring up to better illuminate the area. On the ground, a dead chipmunk -- one that had been dead for the better part of a day, judging by the smell, and yet not a single scavenger appeared to have touched it. The body's bottom half was still immaculate, but the top half... the flesh and muscle had been corroded away by something, leaving a half-dissolved, unrecognizable mess, bleach-white bone peeking out in irregular patches. The ground, too, seemed to bear a few subtle signs of some sort of erosion; little irregular splots where the verdant forest floor was conspicuously bare, a peculiar streak on a tree where the bark had been gnawed away and congealed, diseased-looking black sap was scabbed around it. Yes, something was definitely off.
