It seemed like yesterday that Manaphy had left his home to enroll in sumabura. Now, he was to use all his knowledge gained from the Smash Fundamentals class to see how well he could fight in a real smash battle. Despite his inexperience with fighting, his training hopefully would help him through this one.
"Mana..." Manaphy sighed as he tried to concentrate his thoughts so that he would not be as nervous.
Although his opponent was no other than his good friend - Squirtle - he did not want to give in easily in this match. Manaphy's antennae glowed intensely as his mind was cleared of most petty fears. Thankfully the stage itself was not intimidating as well...the Pokemon Stadium was new to him, yes. But since it was supposed to be his "world" stage, Manaphy felt better. Despite that he was not in his Pokemon form - it would have hindered him greatly since Manaphy had stubby legs to move around with - he felt as if were (strangely) at home.
So on one side of this stage, Manaphy waited for Squirtle to arrive.

Despite that he was not in his Pokemon form - it would have hindered him greatly since Manaphy had stubby legs to move around with - he felt as if were (strangely) at home.
So on one side of this stage, Manaphy waited for Squirtle to arrive.

Squirtle did have confidence only because he trains so much with Red, but without his orders he almost feels a bit lost, nonetheless Squirtle needed to learn how to fight with his own will and not be commanded forever.
"A-ah, Manaphy!" He rushed into the stadium on the opposite side seeing the windmill start turning, he gulped at the sight and hoped he wouldn't hurt his friend in the process. "A...are you ready?" He asked trying to shake his nervousness away.
no subject
"Hey Squirtle!" Manaphy called back cheerfully. "I-I think I am ready..."
Suddenly a loud announcer-like voice rang throughout the stadium.
Count down in 3...2...1...
GO!

Squirtle stood in his spot for a minute trying to see if any of his water attacks worked in human form, he tried blowing bubbles from his mouth, a few came out but it didn't seem to be enough, for now he'd hope this human form had some alternate moves.
"Let's do our best!" He came rushing towards Manaphy with a water filled hand, trying to see if he could create maybe a water punch move.

As soon as Squirtle's attack went past him, Manaphy folded his hands together to shoot a quick but strong blast of water at Squirtle's now exposed back. Manaphy hoped it didn't hurt him too much...
no subject
"S-sorry, I haven't fought in this form before..." He got up slowly trying to keep his focus. (Common, Squirtle, Red would be disappointed if he saw you now, what would he do?) He sighed and turned back around, although it seemed Manaphy was more serious then he was, he didn't want to make this a joke but take it seriously too so he tried not to show his discomfort. He tried again collecting water in his hands and stood back a bit waiting for Manaphy's next move.

He also realized that, since they were both water types, that water moves that both were used to doing may not work as well. Manaphy inwardly wondered whether Mr. G/W purposely arranged this to test them both out. Nevertheless, Manaphy decided a simple attack might suffice for now. He'd have to improvise as the battle progresses.
So he ran forward and did a few non-water punches and a kick at Squirtle...

While he needed more training he managed to dodge the first two punches with speed but the lag in his moves let the kick get him in the stomach. "Squirt-" He felt the kick sink in. Stomach's sure were more fragile then in his turtle form, he'd have to remember to avoid hits in there. His back could be a weak spot too.
But he was determined to win! He shook off the sharp pain and tried to get behind Manaphy to do a upward water fall attack.
no subject
Just as swiftly, he did a counter on the remainder of Squirtle's waterfall attack. Gathering the water generated from the fall, Manaphy condensed it into orbs that fit well in his hands. Then he flash froze them into sharp points, and performed an upward slash.

Seeing Manaphy gather his water left him in shock, guess that was a bad move after all. He tried to make a run for it but Manaphy had already struck hard with his spikes, ripping his shirt just a tad dodging but still felt the scrape on his skin. "S-so scary" He said quietly to himself not trying to make Manaphy feel sorry or anything, this was a fair fight after all, they both were trying their best. Squirtle didn't think about it much and had already begun running towards him for a tackling attack.
Maybe a body slam would work nice in this form!
no subject
Suddenly, Squirtle's body slam attempt hit him hard. It hurt, and he skid almost off the ledge, But he stopped himself just in time, quickly re-forming his watery orbs as well. Then taking a short breath, he charged at Squirtle while he was under the lag phase of the slam, and skidded abruptly to knock Squirtle head over heels.
no subject
"Oh right, waterfall!" He said to himself while using the attack to get back up.
But.
Since he had to spend that extra second thinking of the next move he didn't quite reach the edge and had fallen to the out of bounds area and taken his first K.O.
Being regenerated on the floating platform he plopped back on the stage with a thump, leaning over sighing. "I-I messed up." (I-I need to think quicker next time!)

Squirtle didn't say much and had already an urge to fight, so gathering his strength he once again charged at Manaphy but this time from a aerial point and was going for a tail attack.
no subject
Manaphy now was exhausted - from both tension and mental stress. But wavering his antennae in a determined manner, he concentrated quietly. He was gathering as much energy as possible for a whirlpool attack... ((one of his B-moves fyi))
no subject
He took this moment to try and rush him, this was a all or nothing chance, he was down already a life so he had to avoid risks, but he didn't think of any other way to dodge except maybe getting to the top of the windmill, but he didn't have enough energy in his human form to do that high yet.
So without much thought he hoped he could tackle Manaphy to the ground before his whirlpool started.
no subject
As he was regenerated back to the stage, he was a bit shaken but much more ready. He landed on the stage almost on top of Squirtle, attempting a down aerial attack.
no subject
He got back up slowly still thinking to hard, wondering what he should do but the ideas failed to come, all he could do was watch his opponite move, he got in a defensive stance hoping he could buy some time hoping for a strategy to kick in, sometime soon would be nice!
no subject
Nevertheless, Manaphy took on a slightly defensive position, and concentrated his mind for another attack. His antennae glowed to prepare another whirlpool attack...
((I HAD TO EDIT SOMETHING SORRY FOR SPAMMING))
no subject
Squirtle looked up to see Manaphy place holding another whirlpool attack. He didn't have much time to react and waited for the inevitable, not being able to think he shielded himself hoping it would withstand the force.
The push unfortunately was a little too much and Squirtle had been sent off the edge once again leaving Manaphy with a pretty clean win. Being regenerated once more he plopped onto the ground as the match was over and they were teleported out of the stadium.
"Sorry I did so bad, I couldn't think straight..." He sighed and scratched his head in embarrassment.
no subject
Manaphy was a bit exhausted from that whirlpool attack, and he was even more dazed at that he won. Running toward his embarrassed friend, Mana gave him a hug; when he was child, he would always hug his friends and whirl them around underwater...but the hug itself was enough in this case.
"Mana! You still did okay Squirtle! Maybe we should train together more sometime...phii~"
Squirtle seemed a bit flustered, but both of them happily left the stage...after all, the sparring match was over.
