It was just as he feared. Pit checked the halls for Jeff's sake, in case someone might see and embarrass his friend, before gathering himself closer to the other boy, wanting desperately to reassure him. It weighed heavily on his heart that he was the one who pushed him to this point by being rashly charged and childish about the dissension a week ago, and alarm bells were shrieking in his mind. Jeff never cried! He'd never seen a single tear seep down his face! And now...

Hearing nothing of the last mumble, his voice dipped to a whisper as he repeated his name again. "Jeff..." He balanced the small stack of books in one arm. Prepared for a negative reaction but boldly doing so, Pit's fingers gently collected Jeff's chin to lift his head up. He was being as gentle as possible because his heart was reaching out too.
