FIGHTO!

Characters: Blastoise, Charmeleon, Any spectators who feel like seeing this
What: Good ol'fashioned Green Team brawl! CHAR WANTS HIS E-PEEN REPUTATION AS STRONGEST TEAM POKEMON BACK.
Where: The generic battle stadium in the school
When: Saturday afternoon
Rating: PG13 for EPIC GREEN TEAM BONDING TIEMS VIOLENCE

Feh.

Although Blastoise never took Charmeleon seriously on anything, the turtle was ALWAYS inwardly serious about any battle...even those with Char's. Although his last scrap with the hotheaded lizard was pathetic and short...Blastoise had a small gut feeling that this one may last longer.

Nonchalantly standing around the stadium, he streched a little and waited patiently for Char to arrive.

When he had something to prove, Charmeleon was a stranger to the word "futile." His fights with Blastoise were a pathetic joke at best; time and time again, he walked away defeated, with blunted, aching claws and a sputtering tail. This time... this time, things'd be different. Even if he still had a disadvantage in terms of height, bulk, type, and evolutionary stage, he did at least have an ace in the hole. As far as Char was concerned, all that hard work and training were gonna pay off today.

"Hey, fatass!" He called out to Blastoise as he entered. "Ready to get your ass kicked?

It was a fight between Charmeleon and Blastoise. Of course Bulbasaur was going to be there. Beyond the fact that they were his team mates, they had both been off training and Bulba was curious to see the results of both of their efforts. He had quietly taken a seat up in the stands, off to the side where it was harder to be seen, intending to be a silent spectator.

Bulba leaned forward a bit in anticipation, silently wishing that they both did their best.

Well... no sense in busting out his secret weapon right off the bat. Charmeleon wanted to see just how far his regular abilities had come ever since their last tussle. He didn't bother with any scathing, witty responses to Blastoise; instead, he shot forward, charging Blastoise with a lightning-quick Aerial Ace. Even if he couldn't outmuscle somebody Blastoise's size, he at least had his quickness going for him.

Green walked behind his curious Bulbasaur and tapped him lightly on the shoulder.

"So what's going on, Bulba?"

He was always one for surprise entrances, although he kept his voice fairly low as not to distract his other two Pokemon from their fight.

He let out a grin "My boys are are doing a little spar, eh?"

Bulba jumped a little at the tap with a quiet, "Eep!" He had gotten absorbed into the start of the fight and hadn't noticed Green's approach behind him. "Green!" He greeted softly.

He scooted over a little so his trainer could take a seat if he wanted, looking back at the fight with a nod and a little grin. "Mhm. They're at it again, like usual."

[identity profile] hasmorepokemon.livejournal.com 2008-09-28 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Green waved a hand lightly at the offer to sit beside.

"Nah, I'll stand here. Let's see how this pans out..."

With a confident grin he watched his two Pokemon scuffle, keeping a sharp eye on each.

The headbutts had Char wobbling a little, but it took more than a few taps to take him down.

Even if his countless brawls with Blastoise had never gotten Charmeleon anywhere, but he'd learned something from each one. Attacking that hard shell covering his torso was useless; even if he could score a few gouges into it, he'd never been able to pierce its solid defenses. Blastoise's exposed limbs and head were the places to aim for when he wanted to hurt him, which was tricky when they could be pulled into the shell at any given moment.

If he was attacking from the front, it was important to put as much momentum behind the hits as possible. Squirtle, Wartortle, Blastoise... it didn't make a difference. Get them on their back and you have them, even if it's just for a second. Again, Char threw himself at Blastoise for another head-on attack, this time with his head lowered and ready for a headbutt of his own.

[identity profile] hasmorepokemon.livejournal.com 2008-09-28 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Green locked his eyes particularly on Charmeleon. A head-on attack against someone like Blastoise? A bold, but risky move. Brash mistakes had cost his Charmeleon battles in the past and it bothered the trainer that his most eager Pokemon was also his most careless.

'What is he thinking?' Green thought with his brow lowered 'It better be worth it...'

[identity profile] blazinglizard.livejournal.com 2008-09-28 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
That was just what Char had been hoping for. With Blastoise throwing his own weight into it, he'd never be able to get out of the way, and while that water was the most dangerous thing Charmeleon could be faced with... it also conducted electricity. He hadn't wanted to give away his new move so soon, but he wasn't so stupidly proud that he'd hold back against somebody who was more than a match for him.

It was risky, reckless, and maybe a little stupid... but the fatass would never see this coming. Charmeleon pushed off the ground at the last second and cocked his fist back. A sudden crackle of energy around his claws was the only warning given before he slammed his fist down at Blastoise's head in a Thunderpunch, throwing all the force he could into the blow even as the Surf attack hit his exposed tail flame with a loud hiss.

[identity profile] hasmorepokemon.livejournal.com 2008-09-28 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Thunder Punch! Of course, it all added up -- the perfect type-counter.

The approach was still reckless, but the effort impressed Green and he nodded in approval with a smirk.

'Watch yourself, you hothead...you're dangerous when you have your wits about you.' He thought to himself.

[identity profile] hasmorepokemon.livejournal.com 2008-09-28 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
'...And that's why you gotta watch out Char.'

He shook his head and watched his trusty Blastoise easily counter the blow. Such grit in the face of a type weakness is further proof of his superior defense. If Charmeleon was to succeed in this battle he had to play smart.

Green wasn't ready to place his bets on that just yet.

[identity profile] blazinglizard.livejournal.com 2008-09-28 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
OH GOD OW what the hell. Charmeleon let out a yelp as Blastoise's teeth snared his fist and sent him flying, the steam from his tail leaving a comet-like trail in his wake. He hit the ground hard, tumbling a short distance before he came to rest in a heap. If there was one thing Charmeleon had plenty of experience doing, though, it was taking a nasty blow and getting up again. Jeez... more than anything, that Surf of his sure packed a wallop.

Char wasn't going to let Blastoise keep much distance between the two of them for long, though. Not when his fire was next to useless and Blastoise had those cannons on his side. He'd been hoping Thunderpunch would have had more of an impact than that, but he couldn't let that sway him. Again, Charmeleon charged in, but this time, he ducked away at the last second, circling around him in a dodge roll. No sooner was he behind Blastoise than he was on his feet and climbing onto Blastoise' back, claws scrabbling against the familiar notches scarring Blastoise's shell in an attempt to gain a hold.

[identity profile] blazinglizard.livejournal.com 2008-09-28 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
...Wow... that sure was, uh... what was the word Charmeleon wanted? Oh yeah. Retarded. At least it gave him the time to finally get a good grip. One hand closed around the barrel of a water cannon to keep him steady, while the other... hm. Where was he supposed to hit when Blastoise was inside his shell? The smartest thing to do was stick with Thunderpunch; it was his best weapon against Blastoise. Punching the shell just seemed like a good way to break his hand, though.

Just sitting on his back and waiting was about the dumbest idea ever, though; Charmeleon had to be ready to abandon his hard-earned perch the second it looked like Blastoise would end up on his back, or he'd be in for the smushing of a lifetime. Charmeleon didn't have the patience to wait, anyway. So... huh. Metal conducts electricity. Those metal cannons might not actually come out of his skin or whatever, but they had to lead to wherever Blastoise stores all his water, right? That conducted electricity, too. Another warning crackle as Char raised his fist once more, this time striking the barrel of a water cannon with his Thunderpunch.

(For the record, HOLY SHIT OW punching metal hurt.)

[identity profile] blazinglizard.livejournal.com 2008-09-28 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that attack was kind of a failure. It probably hurt Char's hand more than it hurt Blastoise.

But Charmeleon had been expecting Blastoise to pull a move like this. How else was Blastoise supposed to get him off his back, right? As soon as he felt Blastoise starting to tip, he kicked off his shell. No sooner had he hit the ground than he rolled out of the way, narrowly avoiding being crushed underneath Blastoise's formidable bulk.

For the most part, anyway. Charmeleon slowly glanced over his shoulder, to where his tail (flame and all) was pinned beneath Blastoise. A moment's silence while it sunk in, and then... the loudest string of curses Char had ever uttered to date.

Ouch!

Bulbasaur cringed at the sound and covered his ears. The shouts weren't that loud, but there were a whole lot of things coming out of Char's mouth that Bulba was sure he never wanted to be repeating. (He was pretty sure there were some new ones this time!)

[identity profile] blazinglizard.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Oh god.

OH GOD.

Charmeleon had endured some very painful beatdowns in the past. He'd also been crushed underneath Blastoise a couple times. But his tail was a very sensitive area, considering the precious flame kept on its tip, and it was currently looking VERY VERY BROKEN OH GOD. That seemed to have taken all the fight out of Char for the time being, and he simply took a moment trying to recover in the only way his animal instincts knew how: curling up, cradling his throbbing tail, and letting out a low, miserable wounded-animal snarl.

[identity profile] blazinglizard.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
"The hell could a nurse do? Stick a cast on it and watch it get set on fire?" The tip of his tail was about the worst place possible to get a break in that regard, and Charmeleon had always been stubborn about the nurse's office. After his inevitable losses, he either tried to sneak first-aid supplies out of there when Nurse Birdo wasn't around, relied on Bulba's supplies, or just ignored his injuries and hoped nobody noticed.

Charmeleon slowly uncurled and got back to his feet, though the flame on his newly-dented tail tip was wobbling erratically. "S'just my tail. Ain't nothin'. I can still fight."

[identity profile] blazinglizard.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Truth be told, that little break had taken a lot out of Charmeleon. It was a little hard to focus on anything other than how incredibly badly his tail was hurting... but if you get angry enough, then you can tune out all the pain in the world.

He took a moment to psych himself up, then shot forward in yet another brash head-on charge.

[identity profile] blazinglizard.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It may not have been a water move, but rock was still super-effective against fire.

Especially when one of those rocks managed to land right on his tail, of all things. Even if Charmeleon had been able to get back up again when it had first been broken, he'd had more than enough punishment this time around; all he really had it in him to do was scream, hurl the rock off his tail and curl up once more into a little ball of agony.

And swear under his breath. Nonstop. Bulba ought to be thankful he couldn't hear some of these colorful phrases.

[identity profile] blazinglizard.livejournal.com 2008-09-30 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
It went without saying that Charmeleon wasn't gonna get up again this time. He hit the ground with a final, lingering "thump" and simply lay there, beaten. Again. How surprising.

[identity profile] blazinglizard.livejournal.com 2008-09-30 08:52 am (UTC)(link)
...Lost again, huh? He ought to have expected that much. He'd been losing out to Blastoises long before he'd even met Blast, after all. It had been pretty arrogant of him to assume that a single attack would change all that.

He wanted to struggle. He wanted to rage and scream and spit fire, snap his claws against that damned armor, punch until his knuckles bled, blame Blastoise for his failure and hate that he was always so much better somehow. Green and Bulba had been watching -- this was just another reminder that Charmeleon fell short.

He wanted to struggle... but he didn't. He simply lay curled in Blastoise' grasp, staring at the wavering flame on the end of his throbbing tail so he wouldn't have to look at Blastoise. He was quiet for a long while, but finally, he turned his head away from Blastoise and mumbled something that just might have been a "You too."
