Dorm Log
Who: All of Smash.
What: Dorm log! April-May edition.
Where: Student and Teacher dorms, and quite possibly beyond campus.
When: Approximately the latter half of April to the earlier half of May (25th - 15th)
Warnings: YOU KNOW YOURSELVES
We all know our characters experience downtime after classes and their busy schedules, and this is a good venue for those kinds of miscellaneous dorm-shenanigans to take place. Not only does it give your characters the easy chance to meet new people in a laid-back environment, but it's a good mechanism for strengthening CR. It's easy!
Feel free to begin in any way you please! Plan with (a) fellow player(s) if you'd like! Or, set up a thread and wait for characters to bite! Just add a thread with the room number (and date/time, if it matters) and the characters that reside there (just for reference!). You do not have to use one character's thread as a dual-purpose for both characters if you do not want to. Doesn't have to be a dorm room, either, if you have something else in mind. It could be the common room or the student science lab or wherever.
And keep in mind! There are shadow bugs afoot! They be crawlin' in your crannies!
Since it was well-received last time, we will continue the events. On certain days, there will be an event going on that might help if you can't think of a good scenario to kick off a thread with. In addition to the prevalence of shadow bugs, the list and dates are below.
------
April 28th; Apple Pie Golems: Apple Kid's 17th-dimensional ball of yarn (this is an invention from 4 years ago) gets tangled up and, regrettably, opens a portal to the Elemental Plane of Apple Cobbler. Apple pie golems come streaming in from the rift before it can be closed properly, and they are hungry for a slice of your character. It's fight or... die?! Or maybe fight and pie, depending on whether you win or not.
May 2nd; No-Pants Day: Someone must have funked up a spell in Magic Class, because now everyone's pants have become... sentient! And they're escaping! They're scrambling around without their owners, from shorts to trousers to even skirts! Skirts probably don't know how to run, so they float. Big difference. Even if you manage to nab them back, they'll just try and slip right off again. They're pretty violent. Even the pants in your drawers and closets aren't safe from this magical misdemeanor. Skivvies are strangely unaffected.
May 9th; Meteos Mayhem: Meteos blocks start to gradually descend upon the school grounds. It doesn't seem like a huge deal at first, but after a while, it gets to be a nuisance. Get it off my car! Why are there so many of them? When will they end?! If you're keen, you'll realize that if you line up blocks of like colors in a vertical or horizontal row of three or more, they'll... blast off into space? Weird, but kind of cool. And hey, it cleaned them up. Better not let them stack up too high! It's Trash Day for the whole school!
Also, if you want easy access to the dorm living arrangements, here is the link.

Pulse, in the Computer Lab, because how are you going to bother him otherwise.
Pulse has never had to deal with an electrophage before. He's dealt with things that were capable of absorbing his energy, yes, but he could always change up his strategy and simply kick such things into submission. He didn't even want to touch these glowing purple things... what were they called again? He vaguely remembered something from the news reports about that Persian fellow who he thought was nice but turned out to be downright evil. But, then he had to deal with a plague of hackers taking advantage of all the chaos and confusion, and missed out on a lot of real-world events. He hated having to split his attention between two vastly different worlds.
Either way, he was going to have to come up with a plan. Surely there was someone else at this school with more experience in dealing with these things. Even his electric bolts did nothing to deter them; in fact, the little blobs came rushing in his direction the moment he started firing them off. He ended up having to leap up atop one of the storage shelves in the room before he could become somewhat invisible to them again, forcing himself to calm down the best he could, so that he wouldn't radiate so much voltage.
But he was by no means trapped in that room; the door was unlocked, and it was a simple matter of jumping down and getting across the proverbial lion's den of electricity-eating glowing purple things to reach the exit. It was just that he was more or less inclined to make that trip as quickly as possible, and he could only hope that he wouldn't collide with anyone attempting to enter the room at the time.
Re: Pulse, in the Computer Lab, because how are you going to bother him otherwise.
Lucca had papers to write. That's how this all started. For some reason, it's always a grand adventure looking for a quiet space to write a paper that you don't really want to write anyway.
The bugs had all but taken over the machine shop and auto shop, and while Lucca didn't look it, she still had a small tendency for girlish squeamishness: She recoiled and noped out of the room as soon as she had tried both of them. The computer lab was a last resort, and she would have done the same there if she hadn't seen Pulse stranded on the counter above a roiling sea of purplish black.
"Pulse?! AUGH!" She jumps back and blasts a belch of heat and light at her feet as the tide of shadow bugs sloshes back towards her. The fire magic leaves a small clearing filled with dissipating bugs and slightly-toasted linoleum.
"They're in here too!"
no subject
"...Oh! M-Miss Lucca--"
He was subsequently startled silent by the blast of fire which Lucca shot at the glowing things, effectively scattering them from that end of the room. He didn't completely understand magic, how it worked, or even that this was what Lucca had just used, but the fact of the matter stood: It destroyed the things and frightened away the survivors.
"...Do that again!"
no subject
She wasn't aware of why Pulse was perched out of their reach, but there had to be a reason he was avoiding those shadow bugs. She'd ask him the details later; for now she had to clear a path for him.
She ignites one of her hands and blasts a few small fireballs in a zigzag pattern, herding the shadow bugs out of the center of the room.
"How can there be so many of 'em, anyway?!"
no subject
Once there was enough clear space on the floor, Pulse made his move. The storage case was knocked back slightly from the force of his leap; he cleared the length of the room in a single bound, landing just in front of Lucca and immediately ducking into a crouch, looking past her to make sure the door hadn't closed itself behind her.
"We should leave now."
Normally he would just wrap his arms around her and take off through the open door without a word, but the last time he did that with a human, said human ended up with a broken neck. He had to be careful with such fragile creatures.
no subject
"Alright, c'mon!"
They flee!
yay finals are over
"Um, uh... th-those..."
He raised one arm and pointed at the window, toward the glowing purple blobs.
"...What are they?"
no subject
A pause, and then she looks to him.
"Oh! Y-you're okay, right?" She proooobably should've asked that first.
no subject
"I, uh, I think so."
After hearing "bug" and "shadow energy" he already had a ton of questions begging for answers, but there was one standing at the forefront of his mind.
"You said... th-that they're everywhere, Miss Lucca?"
no subject
Wait...
"In the machine shop and the auto shop... They were swarming the machinery! They're attracted to machines, and that's why they were after you, right?"
no subject
"Yeah, but... But it's not because of the machines... Because I'm not a machine. It's because... well, they're also gathering around the outlets and the power strips, and..."
He swallowed hard.
"...and I have a significantly higher voltage level in my body than humans do."
no subject
Another wave hits the widow and she flinches.
"We're gonna have to figure out a way to keep you safe, then."
no subject
If he were the only one affected in this situation, he would have accepted it, allowing himself to run away and disappear until the threat was over and dealt with. Besides, it was what he used to always do; but then, that was back before he realized how threats in cyberspace could affect people in the real world, before he decided that the real world was worth protecting just as much as cyberspace. And if these things were all over the school like Lucca said, they had to be causing problems for everyone else there as well. After all, they just lost the entire computer lab.
"I-I would think... the integrity of the school's network... and power grid... should take priority over my safety, ma'am. Even though I'm not going to be much help in getting rid of them, myself..."
He glanced at the window for a moment, watching the blobs. It seemed as though there were a lot more in there than before. Were they multiplying? Were they growing larger from feeding off the electricity? Or did it just look like there were more of them because they were actually all just on this side of the room, trying to get at him?
He looked back toward Lucca.
"What was it you did that made them back away from you? It looked like... It looked like you were throwing flames at them, with your hands."
no subject
Awgawd, life ate me for a while. >_<
Another wave strikes the glass, this time with an unsettling amount of force.
"...We can talk more about this when we get somewhere safe." She adds quickly.
Tell me about it
