Every day, afternoon to evening

A year ago today.

He sat under this tree and watched the petals fall all around him. He watched the gala goers enjoying the sights and festivities. Connor would have ordered some food, the first food he had tried in this strange place that he didn't get himself in the woods. He spoke with Eirik and got to know her more, as well as met a lot of new faces.

Many people here were speaking of this being the start of the year. He hadn't heard of that philosophy in its entirety. Perhaps it was a saying that Spring brought on new life and the flowers blooming represented that? If so, sure, he would say and agree with that.

Or at least, it felt like a beginning of sorts. In some way.

In fact, Connor decided to take advantage of it for a second time.

When not walking about the stands, he sat under a tree. Also, yes, he bought those meatballs again. Thankfully, they were sold again.

Mukuro was handing out brightly coloured dango to everyone who came near her tree. It reminded her a lot of happier times in Hope's Peak, or well... what was considered happier. Now she's better at expressing said happiness.

At first she noticed that someone had sat on the otherside of the tree, and she walked over with her box full of dango. When she saw that it was the custodian, Connor whose-last-name-is-difficult-to-pronounce, she bent down on her knees to his level and offered him a stick.

He had maybe expected a couple people to approach him today. Mukuro wasn't so high on that list, mainly because it was easy to tell she was just as outwardly guarded as he was. Connor looked up at her, then looked at the odd looking food she had. It almost looked like...bread on a stick?

Some sort of dough weird colored bread on a stick.

It was a good few moments of them not really exchanging any words, which seemed awkward along with that.

In the few times he had spoke with Mukuro, though not a person he frequently spoke with, he had noticed she had a very serious air. So for today, it wasn't so hard to notice that she wasn't, well, so serious. She seemed happy for some reason. Was it the festival?

"Miss Mukuro," he spoke, as he decided to address her as politely as he could, and trying to not show any confusion with her gesture. He hadn't taken the stick yet but instead decided to address that too.

"...What is that you are holding?"

"It is dango... it is a traditional Japanese sweet filled with red bean paste."

She thought that was a sufficient explanation, then realised that they probably did not have hanabi celebrations where Connor came from. So Mukuro continued.

"The blossoming of cherry trees is a fortuitous occasion in Japan. Traditional sweets, such as this one are often eaten. In Hope's Peak Academy, we would give these out during the festival amongst other kinds of food to celebrate. Please, take one. I have many more."

Of course, this would imply that Connor knew what red bean paste was and his knowledge on Japanese culture wasn't so limited if existent at all.

Connor would only make a brief face of confusion until then she suddenly continued. Connor believed in tradition, and a tradition in sharing sweets while watching flowers seemed one of the more pleasant ones he had heard of outside of his own people.

Actually, it sounded rather nice.

Connor could have easily just politely turned it down as he wasn't too much into sweets, but he had been surprised by modern fare before. Especially here in this festival. After thinking it over, especially with the kindness of Mukuro even so much as happily offer it right to him at this moment, he gently accepted the treat.

"Thank you," he politely said to her. "I am sure then this festival was an inspiration from your homeland, from how you speak of it."

Must have been nice to see it, he figured. Based on how Mukuro was acting.

"It was... a time that was peaceful."

Mukuro trails off. She would never admit it, but the traditionally Japanese styled room where one could practise archery was very soothing. They were very pretty, in a fleeting way, cherry blossoms are.

"Do they not celebrate something similar where you come from?"

"My people celebrated the coming of seasons and good harvest," answered Connor as he looked at the dango. He contemplated eating some but decided it was better to hold off on it until later. They were talking about things of sentiment, after all. Though his village was no longer around, in his realm and this one, Connor very obviously still stayed true to who his people were. He would continue to so if it meant keeping even a piece of the culture alive in his future generations, which was...evident where Desmond was concerned, he guessed. Probably.

Back to the conversation at hand, he thought about any real similarities between such festivals.

"I suppose the coming of spring in the festivals are similar. At least, that is what it seems. Many people are enjoying this, so it must be important."

In a way, it was important to Connor now too.

"It was one of the first tastes I had of the modern world, I admit."

Mukuro listened to his description intently, then something piqued her -

"The modern world?"

That was an interesting way of putting it. Was Connor not of this time? She didn't want to assume, of course, but at the same time... she wondered how far back we were talking.

Did he not mention it to her that he was from the past? He had lost track of how much he spoke of it. He thought by now it was pretty obvious. He stuck out so much like a sore thumb here. Well, that was true at this time AND in the past. He hadn't really incorporated himself too much with the trends in Final Destination, he had no real interest. Never the trend setter or follower, anywhere anytime. Call him stubborn for that, for he was about many things. That was very unlikely to even change. After everything, he was still the same Connor.

Though, by now especially, he didn't mind bringing it up.

"Yes, and I cannot claim to know all there is to know about the culture and traditions here. My time is centuries in the past. It has been a year now and I am still constantly learning, so there is that."

Seriously, one day he would see horses and carriages and then suddenly cars.
