And suddenly Marth has a Pseudo Son.
Who: Link (
breaks_pots, Marth (
ofprettytiaras
What: Roommate time! As in, Link is new and needs a hand. Marth is going to be a good guy and lend one.
Where: Their dormitory! BE-9
When:I was supposed to post this yesterday, so... 04/16 - Late Afternoon
Warnings: None.
How was it that he was always caught with kids? Well, 'caught' made it sound as though it was a compromising position, which it wasn't. But before the young Link, who looked rather similar to the one Marth had known of previously, was Klonoa, who was equally a bit juvenile in his own right. All of this, it certainly seemed like deja vu. He wondered how many times he would need to have the same conversation, and hand out the same explanations about what everything was and where it was all located. He wondered how he would garner up the patience to say things how they needed to be said and not how he would naturally do so.
But he'd liked what he'd seen so far. Link had a certain kind of charm to him, even for all of his naivety. And to be fair, naivety was endearing. Marth wasn't going to deny that, however in hindsight, he figured he wasn't about to outwardly claim it either. God forbid should Navarre overhear him and tease him for one more thing that was absolutely unnecessary.
A hand at his waist, his other dusted off his tunic and he waited patiently. Any time now, he was sure he'd be able to spot Link. It wasn't hard to see a young man who stood out in green. Of course, assuming Link had nothing better to do, Marth could simply borrow some of his time to better help him adjust to the academy and its odd... intricacies.

And so did this blue-haired guy he'd just spotted. ...that was a guy, right? Awfully pretty if he was... and wearing a crown like thing... Well, maybe guys could be princesses! Link sure didn't know.
Link walked right up to Marth, tucked his hands behind his back and asked, "Are you the princess?"
no subject
Well. Younger. Marth was nowhere near the age of being able to peg another's yearly progression with simply a look. He simply thought Link looked... young. Excessively so, perhaps. But not as young as some of the students he'd seen at the academy.
At first he wasn't sure how to appropriately respond to Link's question and it did take a moment's hesitance before he shook his head. Then he knelt down and offered over his right hand to Link. "I apologise for disappointing, however, no. My name is Marth. From here on out, we shall be staying together. It is a privilege to meet you." And then he smiled, the same kind smile he gave to everyone.
no subject
"It's nice to meet you, too. But you don't need to stay with me," He replied as Navi ducked out of his hat to circle Marth's head, "I already have a partner."
no subject
His expression became more amused and he shook his head in slight protest. "No, no. It is not quite like that. In this place, we are given these rooms--" Marth motioned around them, from one side where all his pointedly regal possessions were, and to the other, the bare minimum with no decoration. In other words, pristine. "--and companions with which to share them. It would seem that I have been deemed worthy enough to be yours during our stay here."
Idly as he watched Navi move, he wondered if his words could be any clearer, and was concerned that they'd fail to do so. As an emperor in hindsight, he realised he could use better skills at speaking with the youth.
no subject
"I knew this was my room," he replied and wandered over to the big, soft bed and jumped up on it to sit down. "I didn't know I was supposed to share it with anyone. Are they going to give you a lot of neat stuff, too?"
no subject
"Actually..." The emperor began as he moved to sit next to Link. "This is my bed. And my side. I brought many trinkets from my homeland to decorate the barren walls here. If you would like, on my next journey I can bring more for your side as well." And he felt that was all that really needed to be said.
no subject
You weren't here okay! It's his now!no subject
YEAH. OKAY. YOU TAKE THAT BED. I'LL JUST SLEEP UNDER IT.no subject
He pushed on it with his hands. Well, maybe it would be easier to sleep on, since the mattress wasn't so thick and soft.
no subject
Now, how was he to answer that? On one hand, he could tell the young boy that he needed his bed back and suffer the wrath of distasteful expressions. On the other, he could simply relent his bed to Link and instead choose... the other bed and eventually make it look as nice as his original.
"If you would like it, you may have it. I can also make your bed a bit more like mine, if you should prefer that." Because Marth really did have a soft spot for innocent children.
no subject
He gave another press to the mattress with his hands before jumping up onto it and turning around to sit properly, legs kicking where they dangled off the edge. The boy too short for them to reach the floor.
Link was already over the disappointment of all that stuff on Marth's side of the room not being his. It was nice while it lasted, but there was no use dwelling on it. Besides, if he ended up needing anything from over there, he could just take it.
Frowning slightly in apology, he continued, "No one told me this side was mine, is all. I'm sorry for sleeping in your bed."
no subject
He looked between Link's side and his, noting the obvious differences. After all, unlike Marth, Link hadn't been the one who was there years prior. Marth had a lot of history and a lot of time to make his part of the dormitory a little more like home. Shifting to his feet, he settled a hand upon his hip.
"What kinds of things do you like? We should decorate your half with things you will enjoy."
no subject
Until coming to the academy, Link hadn't ever had a room that was 'decorated'. The things in his house were important to living in the forest and making sure all the Kokiri had things they needed. Like food. The only houses that were decorated in any way were Saria's and Mido's. Saria's had a long piece of cloth slung high on the wall all the way around her room and Mido had a red carpet going from the door to the raised dais he conducted village business from.
The closest Link came to that were the curtains over his door and storage shelf. And those were more out of practical need than to pretty up the place or make it more fun to look at.

Marth folded his arms over his chest with some thought and he tipped his head this way and that, clearly thinking and clearly getting absolutely nowhere at all. He could hardly remember what it was like to be a kid and it seemed silly for him to try to imagine what it was like.
"Pots, hm?" he asked slowly. "I imagine that they have something like that here for you. We can always make a visit into the town and take a look around. There is also a professor by the name of Miss Sable. She may be able to offer us some ideas on how to get the most out of your interests."

Perhaps he might have continued 'singing' her praises, but he found himself at an abrupt pause. "...Pardon? Did you just say that you have been searching the pots for treasure?"
no subject
no subject
"I never would have thought," the man continued, a little surprised by the discovery.
no subject
It was a pretty common thing back in the forest. It was the only way to get rupees, after all.
no subject
Marth had to think about that. Did he ever enjoy such a pastime? He couldn't say so and genuinely mean it. But then, he wasn't exactly the typical boy, he supposed.
"I think that differs from one to another. You may be surprised to find out how many people can potentially be different."

Folding his arms over his chest, Marth shook his head. "I am not personally saying I dislike it. I think when I was your age I would have enjoyed it a great deal. I suppose you could even say that I too, am doing my own form of treasure hunting. So perhaps I would still enjoy it nowadays. I just do not think everyone would ever enjoy it the way you do."
Then he leaned over and attempted to ruffle Link's hair, "And that is perfectly fine, really."
no subject
"Don't do that."
no subject
"You were saying that they did not have to do it the way you do, correct? Continue on. I am listening."
no subject
So Link scooted over so he was just out of Marth's reach before giving another firm nod, "Yeah. They don't have to search for treasure like I do. They can find treasure anyway they like to. Searching the grass, swimming in a pond, climbing a tree or even just walking along a path. Sometimes treasure is just waiting to be found."
no subject
"I find your lack of faith disturbing."He watched Link scoot away, but said nothing of it, nor did he attempt to do anything that might have otherwise made the young boy feel as though he needed to form some type of escape route. Instead, he kept his eyes on the youth and only vaguely considered standing at his feet again. But it quickly was replaced as he found his words again.
"These are good places to find treasure. That being said, however, what is it that made you decide breaking pots would be a good idea? Some pottery can be very expensive, I am certain."
no subject
He paused and tilted his head to the side as he thought about it, "Well, usually they come back. Some of the ones in the big room with pots didn't come back after we smashed them. But others did! And they had treasure in them!"
