Apple Kid, meanwhile, was fiddling around with a little box that he'd pulled out of his overalls (dang, boy, you've got some pretty big pockets). It had some push-buttons and what looked to be quite a lot of glitter sprinkled liberally all over it.

He pushed the push-buttons with his Apple Kid fingers. A little door opened and a bottle of fruit juice emerged halfway from the box. After he'd pulled it out, it was clear that the bottle was longer than the box. "Would anyone else like some juice?" he asked. "It's important to stay hydrated."
