"He came here to be with you."

That echoed a few times in her head. And other things Red said followed in suit easily.

"Let him try... if he didn't want to, he wouldn't have come."

She knew it to be the truth as well, even if she didn't particularly want to admit it. What was there to really acknowledge? Marie was doing his best. He was trying. She didn't feel like she was worth it, but he was doing it anyway. That said something about him. She respected him for it. She felt horrible, but she admired him.

Red's very motion, the way his head inclined, made her heart ache so greatly that she didn't immediately know how to respond. Why... did she feel so sad? Why was she so upset? What was it about the implication that bothered her so much? Because she still questioned and denied her own worth? Because she felt like Red could too easily determine that about her if she continued trying to push Marie away.

"I don't want him to suffer on my account," she admitted very kindly. "I would never want him to do something like that for me."
