When Voile looked back at him, Marie allowed a second of eye contact before shyly glancing away again. His near-smile didn't fade, rather it just more closely matched his shy disposition. Every so often he'd steal another glance, just barely long enough to catch a glimpse of the look on her face or the adorable way her cheeks seemed to redden the more she talked. He nodded along with her, silently reassuring her that he was listening.
"Yeah... I like it better when we can be alone," he said without much thought. A beat passed and he wished he would have phrased it differently. Quickly, he added, "'cause, like, I don't like being around a lot of people all at once like that."
