Cyrus had been in similar situations in his youth. Nothing approaching the oppression that Pulse must have gone though, but had been distrusted, even feared, for his intelligence and behavior. He had been so unlike other children despite being their species and age that he had learned firsthand how humans feared anything different.

And Pulse was even more different still. Not even an organic being, not fully, and seen as an outsider by both sides. It was disturbing to think of machines taking on the illogical attributes of humans, unsettling and frightening.
