Fuzzy friends frolic frivolously in the forest OR Surly people attempting to be social in the woods.

Who: Jon and Evve
What: Jon shows off his transformation and they drag something down for dinner.
Where: The forest out back.
When: Forward dated to Saturday.
Warnings: Hunting and eating of wildlife, scary monsters and and cranky fuzzballs.

The scene had been the Library, earlier that week. Jon had asked to borrow a book from her and it had facilitated a discussion in which he'd promised to show her his transformation.

People were often interested, of course - he was the opposite of the Norm in this city. A man, born Human, who transformed into something else, sometimes against his will. He didn't tend to tell a lot of people the particulars, but he'd felt a little more comfortable with it of late. Especially with other non-humans, and really, he had Riwane to thank for that.

And so here he was, waiting out back of the school a little before six as had been decided. He hadn't bothered with a shirt considering it would just get destroyed anyway, but he did have his battered old bag with him containing a few essentials.

Now all he had to do was wait for his company to arrive.

And she was right on time, as they had discussed. Evve may be lazy, sarcastic, and overall apathetic, but she at least had punctuality going for her. On time to not do anything for anyone else. Good.

She arrived in her human form that evening, mostly to keep lines of communication open until they were off on their little adventure in the woods. While she would normally be in a full outfit, having decided she didn't mind the idea of human clothing so much after some time, tonight she only came in a ragged white t-shirt and a pair of jean shorts in about the same state. She hadn't really mastered transformation with clothing involved, so it was best to wear something disposable.

Bare feet pushing through grass, Evve's hand rose in a greeting when she approached. If she was excited to be there, her face wasn't accounting for it, but if she didn't really want to be there, she wouldn't be.

"Hello," she added to her gesture, giving him a once-over. "A shy nudist?" Ah, there's a smile. Maybe. Or she was going to sneeze.

"Well, shirts never survive my transformation and it's a pain to take it off and put it back on and keep track of it in the woods." Jon replied with a noncommittal shrug.

"Glad to see you came. Let's walk."

And he started making his way into the woods along a slightly less worn looking track than the ones that were more readily visible.

"So. How've you been?" he asked over his shoulder. "Start of term not giving you too many hassles, hopefully."

That made plenty of sense. Evve was ready to get out of this body, personally. The breasts were incredibly uncomfortable without support and the bare feet felt so vulnerable to every single pebble her soles would meet. She paced her walk, keeping on her toes to avoid the least amount of damage. She was a few moments from being an Eevee again when he posed a question.

"Something borderline interesting I--ow-- decided to attend to this morning, but nothing specifically worth mentioning," she explained, dropping back down to flats and giving up. "Nothing I wasn't expecting from the student body."

"....pebbles giving your feet trouble?" Jon couldn't help asking as he noticed how slowly she was moving and the small exclamation she'd made. She probably wasn't used to her Human form to the point where her feet were calloused and hard like his - he could walk over broken glass by now with barely a scratch, though he'd had to withstand years of hard living to achieve that much.

"If you want to transform till we get somewhere softer, I'll not hold it against you - once we're done with this path, the leaf litter and dirt is considerably easier on bare feet."

"It seems so inconvenient," she criticized, lifting her feet up behind her to catch it in her palm. She stared down at her off-black designs on her human footprints and sighed. "They wear so easily..." She looked toward Jon after releasing her leg. A few steps to pace with him had her catching his arm to make him stop. "Show me your feet. Now."

".....um. Alright, then." Jon replied, caught a little off guard.

He lifted one foot, brushing it swiftly with the back of his hand to dislodge some of the general bits and pieces one accumulates while walking barefoot outside. It was a fairly normal foot - The soles looked thick and worn and calloused in key areas from walking, running and kicking. No strange fungi or overlong nails or anything gross. Just a hard working foot - and the fact that he could lift it to show it to her without needing any real form of support might have been impressive for anyone who'd ever tried doing the same and had failed. He was flexible.

Evve took what he offered in both of her hands, eyes narrowing as her scrutiny initiated. Each lap she ran up and down his foot scanned for something discernable from her own, but aside from the larger size and the different construct a man could have over a woman's, Evve had nothing to go on.

Weathered, she noted, Engaging in this sort of activity more often than not, she surmised. Her thumbs pressed down while feeling the flesh out, the contact electrifying in its own bizarre way. She knew the sensation as when she her curiosity was being satiated, and only when she could feel her brain cease its snarling for feed did she let go of his limb.

"...Th - " Yeah, that was probably in order. "Thank you." She kept walking then, arms crossed to her chest.

Until her foot made friends with another sharp rock and a loud hiss escalated out of her mouth.

"Ggh..!" Evve threw massacare glares at the planet before every aspect of her collapsed. Her shorts and shirt fluttered to the dirt, her entire body caving in on itself until there was only a little ball moving on the ground beneath what was left of her human form.

And one, puffy chestnut tail came fluffing out of the rage pile. She was a little tangled up, it seemed.

"Oi, let me help you with that."

He knelt down and with hands that were both deft and gentle, he managed to lift away the shirt and jeans, rolling the latter up in the former to make it easier for him to tuck under an arm.

....she was shorter than he'd expected.

"Right then, let's procede - I'll show you mine once we get to a more roomy spot."

Evve looked up at him from her foot-tall place in the world and nodded with appreciation. This Eevee was definitely her. That bored look carried right through between bodies and her hair was about as thick and messy as it was on her human translation. Despite it, the Eevee didn't seem to look too aesthetically awful, but she wasn't much for groomers to bother having a thing done about it.

The little fox had a spring to her step and one hell of a launch with her leaps. She snapped up into the air to go for Jon's arm, just barely making it up along his chest to clamor her way over his shoulder. She hung there like a used auburn towel, trying to motivate herself to turn around and face the world.

Hey, why walk if he could just carry her?

"So, I'm a bus now, am I?" Jon replied to her actions with a small smirk.

He really didn't seem to mind though considering he just kept walking. It wasn't far until they got to the clearing he'd been headed for. There were old signs of campfires and flattened out spots that had been the site for sleeping bags and there was a definite predator smell to the place for anyone sensitive enough to pick it up. Nothing too nasty - just a generally understood Forest Language 'Sod Off Please'.

He set her down - as promised the ground was fairly soft here.

"Right, let me know when you're ready." he said, slinging his bag into the corner and setting her balled up clothes down on some grass so they didn't get muddy or too damp.

Evve groaned a little against his back, having never quite gotten around to flipping herself to face forward. She pulled her body up to leap off behind him, appreciating the kindness the Earth here had for her paws. These set of supports were able to endure more use than the pasty pair of human ones, but Evve felt it better to remain in her natural state.

She trotted around to sit in front of him, planting her butt to the soil and swirling her fluffy tail around her side. A nod was his cue to go ahead; she was watching closely, even if her eyes weren't wide open.

Jon nodded back and stepped a few feet away. He'd learned to control his transformation a long time ago with the aid of intense martial arts training, both physical and spiritual. If she was looking very closely, she might have seen his claws and teeth extending just a little as his feet spread apart and a hand went to his forhead.

From there, it was very quick - two seconds or less of fur exploding from skin, the sound of bones smashing and reforming and a strangled gasp cut off halfway through to be replaced by silence and then a long, low howl.

He took a couple of deep breaths and shook out his coat, torn off pantlegs slapping at his pelt. He was taller this way, and his body looked much broader too, muscles outlined fiercely even under a covering of thick fur.

"So. Was it everything you imagined, then?"

The voice was rougher, but still his own.

The transformations effects took hold of Jon so swiftly that Evve had little time to properly react. Even within the brief seconds it took to inhale and exhale as one arrangement came and went, she had managed to capture one cycle before her lungs came to a crippled stall. Her eyelids snapped back like quick-drawn weapons, stare a bullet fired straight through the beast's heart. Ears mimicked duel copper swords piercing the air above her skull, the sounds of his crushing bones still reverberating inside the hollows and leaving her fur puffed up in auditory discomfort. Well, she looked startled, but not by him as much as the sounds.

When all was said and done beneath his flesh and coat, every bit of her reverted back to normal. Chestnut waves came in low tides and her ears bobbled back lazily, two trees submitting to the winds once again. The only difference that remained was her eyes, focused and thoughtful. However, she was as unafraid as you'd expect.

So he can still speak... Aside from the clear difference, he had retained his shape and, well, she was impressed and frustrated all the same.

Evve began to part her lips to try the human language she could read, write, and so on, but for some reason, could not speak in this anatomy.

"B...Bwe..." No, that wasn't it. "V-vee.." Grr. Whatever, she thought. She decided to respond to him with an approach, arching her back and leaning down to take a leap, but...

Oh, screw that. He was taller and she barely made it up the last time. She sat back down and placed her paw on her head, giving him a tiny wave of, "Pretty much what I thought."

Not that she was exactly sure that was clear.

"You can talk - I can understand you." Jon said, dropping to all fours. "One of the perks of bein' an animal, like. You can understand other creatures who might not speak the Queen's English."

He'd noticed the startle his transformation had given her, and felt he ought to explain. "It's not painless.... that's why I've learned to do it quickly. Back when I was young and my curse first reared it's head, I'd spend minutes as the whole body broke apart and reformed. Smaller organs, larger, differently shaped bones, more teeth. It's agony. So, I've got it down to a bare few seconds now. Like tearing off a bandaid."

Evve pressed her paw to her collar, pushing against the thick fluff outlining her throat. Was that so? Excellent, then. She wouldn't have to try and articulate the language.

"That could've been incredibly annoying," she said in her Pokemon tongue, combing down the hair on her head as she felt them prickle and tangle. When Jon finished his explanation, Evve turned her gaze to his monstrous paws.

"I see. So it doesn't come without a price. We don't seem to suffer the same fate with the technology available to us here." However, she looks to be lost in her own thoughts after that. "So it's sort of the same..."

Jon flicked an ear. "Sort of the same as....?"

He almost wished he was in her position. Humanization technology, on the whole, seemed painless and relatively straightforward. He'd never tried it in his wolf state of course because he could already change at will. And changing back? Well, there was no magical item for that.

As in it wasn't much different for her as an Eevee. If she were to allow the evolution to happen, it'd be far less painless. Combating the plunge into a new genetic structure was no easy feat. She suffered greatly sometimes.

She wasn't sure if saying all that was truly necessary, but he had shared something with her. Perhaps she owed it to him. The girl wasn't entirely selfish.

"Do you understand how an Eevee's evolution works, Jon?"

"I've a textbook knowledge of it." Jon replied, slumping down into the grass and stretching out so they were closer to eye level with one another. "Three stone evolutions - Jolteon, Vaporeon, Flareon. Two evolutions based on happiness, one at night one during the day. Umbreon and Espeon respectively. Two location based evolutions from sinnoh... uh... Glaceon and Lefeon. I've a rough knowledge of their specialties in terms of battle but I'm sure that's not where you're going with your question."

His tail dragged lazy arcs through the cooling evening air.

"Told you I'd done my reading."

Evve dug a little chuckle out of her chest, the sound as dusty as an antique in an abandoned home.

"And you claimed you weren't much of a student. I feel deceived, Jon," she voiced, breath low and playful for what it was. "But you're correct. Time and again I have evaded evolution, and while the human transformation accomodated by the academy bears no ill effects other than, well, becoming human, it's a different feeling from barring evolution.

"As an Eevee, our genes are incredibly unstable. It's why we are so susceptible to the power of the stones, as well as the effects of the Sun and Moon. If I were to accept my change, it would be painless, but irreversible, and I like who I am now.

"So I deny those changes. And while I can't say it's the same as what you've had to go through, it is still exhausting and painful."

She looks up toward the sky dimming with the spin of the world, casting its shadows as well as a small frown across her muzzle.

"I think I'll take a moment to admit my envy of your ability, but not what comes with it."

Jon frowned a little - not that it was incredibly noticeable.

"I didn't realize holding off on it was painful... brave of you, that. Most folk would give in. You know that, don't you?"

He stretched out a little bit, feeling just a touch more at ease for some reason. Even if it wasn't exactly pleasant subject matter, the fact that they were sharing equal parcels of information had him feeling a little less tense than he might have generally.

"One thing I've noticed about Eevee.... there are very few detailed books about them. Lots of texts detailing the evolutions, so few dealing with Eevee itself. Seems almost as though the whole species is seen as something of a stepping stone. Something on the way to a goal as opposed to it's own stopping point."

A small pause, but a loaded pause all the same.

"Good to know you're not of that mindset. It's lovely to see the accepted norm challenged. I do beleive you've garnered my respect - Not an easy feat by any stretch."

Evve's laughter, in its briefness, resembled a snarl. For being an adorable fox, she could look much like a wolf herself.

"Was that all it took?" She cracked, just outright chuckling now. "Your standards are low." But her smile was genuine, that's for sure, and she was looking off into the thick of the wood, eye contact broken out of some embarrassed satisfaction.

He was right, however, and that was in part Evve's problem with trainers. They didn't see her for who she was but what she could be, as if the creature before them wasn't much to look upon; like she didn't exist. It bothered her, even moreso than the idea that someone else would decide her fate and plan her life. She wasn't having it.

"They're actually remarkably high." Jon replied with a smirk.

He meant the compliment - He got the feeling she may not have recieved many.

"So. What's your story, anyway? How does an Eevee come to be staff at a school in this place?"

A girl like her? Are you kidding? She was swimming in compliments. Can't keep the love letters out of her inbox, this one.

His follow-up statement to hers, however, had her ears dipping slightly, which rang nothing but opposition to the above. His question was more or less her savior within the moment and she reestablished eye contact with him when it came into play.

"I'm unsure," she admitted, volume higher as she spoke honestly. "I had arrived in Unova when a storm swept me away. Caught me by surprise, really, but I had heard the weather was wild in their region." She seemed to lament the loss of her explorations, a soft sigh escaping her small lips. "The new living arrangements were involuntarily enough for me, let alone the occupation. However, it came with some perks and admittedly I was interested in exploring. Who turns down free food and shelter?" She smirked. "It's not as if they're keeping a track record on how well I'm doing my job. The black hedgehog may be, however..." He was an annoyance, but nothing she couldn't easily ignore. He was easy and incredibly fun to tease, too.

"Huh... so it was more a happy accident than anything, then?" Jon queried with a small nod. "As for the black Hedgehog, I think I may have seen him about. There are very few fuzzy woodland creatures I find to be terribly daunting so if he gives you any guff, feel free to let me know."

He couldn't help smirking as he said it.

"Fair's fair - I came here by choice. I enrolled in another school in this same city a few years ago due to having aquaintances there and hearing there was some real fighting talent there. Which there's some, but not enough to keep me interested for long. Then, I transferred here because I'd seen some of the folk here who can hold their own while playing American Football."

...He was pretty clear on the distinction.
