Kanji wasn't graduating or anything, which was annoying because he wanted to be done with school. At least the classes here at Smash Academy were more interesting than those at Yasogami. But there was the prom that he was looking forward to. He would have asked Naoto, but A. she was undercover, and B. Kanji had a girlfriend, so he obviously invited her to be his date.
