For a moment, Uxie was quiet. The occasional flicker of one of his tails was the only indication that he hadn't nodded off entirely.

"Aiya..." Uxie finally sighed, shifting his head slightly. "I've been asleep for so long. It really is awfully difficult to stay awake. You may continue to hold me up longer, if you wish... provided you don't mind carrying me back to the school." It may be problematic if they were spotted returning together, but Uxie wasn't just feigning sleepiness. Besides, the closer he was to her, the easier it was to peer into that fascinating head of hers.

If he hadn't known better, he would have called Lash a foolish girl. Her selfish experiment was going to cause a terrible lot of hurt and unnecessary trouble. It wasn't just others being placed at risk, either; Lash was treading on thin ice by coming to Uxie. His defense mechanism was not something people were usually exposed to willingly. For a being who prized knowledge above all else, stripping a person of the truth -- aiding them in blinding themselves -- was a task that didn't sit right with him. If it weren't for his curiosity and the advantages that he stood to gain, he would have refused outright. The deal was simply too sweet to ignore, however: he wanted a high price for such a troublesome task, and she agreed all too willingly.

He knew that Lash had a head for war tactics -- she was a CO, after all. And politics and war went hand in hand. There was simply no way that she could be oblivious to how vulnerable she was making herself. There was no guarantee that Uxie would ever restore her memories. Or that the ones that he gave to her were the untouched truth. Even ignoring the conditions that he laid out for their bargain, he was in a position to be downright exploitative, if he so wished. This was a situation that required unconditional trust from Lash, whether she was willing to admit it or not.

So Uxie just smiled his warmest smile and rubbed one sleepy eye. "We're friends now, you know. I don't mind if you pet me."
