He's both glad the subject has been broached now, and entirely nervous. He seriously doesn't want to screw things up with Silver, that's for sure. He's been meaning to just let things go at whatever pace they wanted to, without rushing anything. He already knows he doesn't want to risk losing his friendship with Silver over anything like this. If the younger hedgehog wasn't interested in that way, then that would be fine, too. He was supposed to be just testing the waters, as it was. Not just wading in without a care.
So he's doing his damnedest to be reassuring, or at least trying to anyways. One thing he knows, though, is he intends to be honest. Bend the truth to get something started he's done... but building something on lies just sets it up to crumble apart later when they unravel. So...
The faint little laugh he gets actually helps make him feel better. Makes him smile a little more, just watching the blushing hedgehog and realizing that it's getting really hard to keep his own at bay. Especially when there's that soft little sort of stammered reply and cobalt ears perk at it, sharply. Emerald eyes blink, a little rapidly at first, wondering if he's reading way too much into that little statement. Until those eyes meet his own and ... yeah, okay. Okay... that... wasn't entirely what he was expecting. Hoping for? Oh so totally. Expecting? Not in the slightest.
He wonders, suddenly, when the butterflies managed to take up residence around all the knots in his stomach. Watches those golden eyes and takes a quiet, slow breath to just kind of gather his cool again.
"" he murmurs, quietly, still keeping hold of those hands, emerald eyes bright in the dim of the library, but watching very intently. "" Only realizes he's shifted in closer to the younger hedgehog when he realizes he's closer to those eyes again. Pauses, heart going a mile a minute, forcing himself not to lick lips that suddenly feel really dry. Glances away from those eyes and down to those lips for a brief lingering moment. Wonders if they taste like strawberries now, too. Lets emerald flicker back up to gold as he shifts in a little more.
"" he whispers, softly, watching all the while, but waiting this time.
