Tactics and Strategy 002
Who: Hawke and students!
What: Tactics and Strategy Class #2
When: Wednesday, June 10th
Where: Hawke's classroom
Rating: PG
*Hawke stands at the front of the class a full fifteen minutes before the bell rings, just like last time. This time, however, there are no cards on the desks, but sheets of loose-leaf paper.*
*When class begins, he surveys the students, silently counting the number to himself before speaking.*
Welcome back. I take it that after last class, you all understand the expectations of this course and plan to stay. In turn, I will raise my expectations.
*A pause, as if he's going to make everyone get up and leave.*
Good. *At this point, he turns to the board, hands clasped behind his back.*
Today, I'd like to begin a term-long project that will encompass all of the course material. Now, it would be far too easy to present the information in lecture format, but when it comes to planning successful missions and operations, the most valuable tool at one's disposal is experience.
I will explain the concept and rules of the project at a later class, but today I plan to do the preliminary work, if you will. Today we will be discussing the most important element in strategy-- the human resource.
*Finally he picks up a dry erase marker and writes "THE TEAM" in large, capital letters.*
Working in a unit is simultaneously the most challenging and rewarding part of any operation. I'm sure many of you sitting in these desks now think that you're the "loner" type, that you work best by yourself. And I can assure you this assumption is false. A team allows you to compensate for your own weaknesses through the strength of an ally, fill gaps in knowledge and, most importantly, support each other.
That being said, what I'm going to do today is split you into three separate teams. From there, you are to meet with your group and discuss the following things.
*Which he writes on the board.*
I want all of these questions answered on a sheet of paper and turned into me by the end of class. Additionally, ANYONE who is or was a Black Hole or Allied Nations commanding officer may not be a team leader. I'm looking to give my students new experiences. Choose a leader based on an informed consensus. If there is an argument, all I can say is each candidate must make their own case to the best of their ability.
Once you have your teams, get used to them. You will be working with them for the remainder of the term.
Further information will be given at a later class. For now, get to know your teammates. I am, of course, open for questions. You have the whole period.
((OOC: Comment in the attendance thread and I'll assign you a team. Don't worry, the purpose of all this will come soon! If you weren't in the last class or want to get a student or TA in on this *~*mysterious project*~*, just sign attendance and I'll get you started!))
