how are you gentlemen

Who: YOU
What: Some incredibly responsible individuals set us up the bomb
When: Friday, August 15th, evening, through August 19th
Where: Wherever you want to be.
Warnings: Who knows?

It starts with a low rumble, as if the school is suddenly subject to an earthquake. A quick glance out the window, however, proves that this is something else entirely.

title or description

The sky darkens as the bubble rapidly expands, consuming the edge of the forest before stopping. Unlike an ordinary explosion, however, the giant bubble left in its wake lingers, the clouds around it a deep purple.

It's not long after that the creatures begin to make their way through.

Pre-explosion BOMB SQUAD - Sheik, Ian, Gordon, Connor

[personal profile] princessninja 2014-08-16 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Dragging the bomb out of the bunkers proved to be the easy part, especially given the amount of manpower Sheik had managed to collect. Obviously, if they were going to work on a potentially dangerous device, the idea would be to bring it as far from the school as possible, which lead them to the outskirts of the forest.

Admittedly, she wasn't quite sure how to proceed, as most of the technology at the school was far beyond what she'd grown up with in Hyrule, but that was what the impromptu crew was for.

"I know working outdoors is not ideal, but..."

"It's fine. The only issue out here might be light." Gordon replies, switching on his suit's flashlight to cast a bit more illumination onto the odd spherical device. For the past hour or so, they'd been hefting the thing out of the darkened catacombs. Now that he's able to get a good look at it, the seamed metal almost resembled Combine biotech, but he wasn't about to let anyone else know that...

"We're gonna have to get this thing open before we do anything." He adds, then notices those worried glances to the crowbar at his hip. "Get it open... carefully."

Connor wanted to make sure he was far from anyone in the forest, his mother included. While he felt uneasy still doing this, it had to be done if they were to find any leads at all. He trusted in Gordon's expertise at the very least. He left him to it, offering still whatever hand he could.

He let himself also take watch, in hopes that no one entered their vicinity.

When he saw that the coast was clear, his attention was on the group again, hood seemingly covering half of his face. His gaze was fixated on Gordon, and he use of the crowbar.

He couldn't help it, he did truly feel uneasy.

He's fine with this. He kind of expected he'd be dealing with the business end of the bomb; that's why the suit in the first place.

Instead of attacking it with the crowbar, he drops a gloved hand onto the device, feeling cautiously for a latch of some kind. At length he lowers to one knee to get a better idea of how to open the thing. It's a bomb, and he's treating it like one.

Ian unties his tool belt, laying it gently on the ground. He's definitely stocked up for this expedition. Being maintenance man definitely had its advantages, as his small but impressive collection of tools (some more specialized than others...) could grow without anyone giving much thought to it. That's probably a good thing, as he's assuming not everyone at the school would approve of this operation.

Ian dons a headlamp for a little more light. He squats down on the other side of the bomb, across from Gordon. He lets out a low whistle, almost impressed.

"Definitely not the typical combustible I'm used to."

He draws a finger delicately over a seam, inspecting it closely before he pauses and pulls a thin flathead screwdriver. "Maybe we can pry it open here? Carefully.

Gordon pokes a few buttons on his wrist control. "I'm not reading any radiation... yet, and it's not telling me about any electromagnetic anomalies either. Far as my suit's concerned, it's just an inert chunk of steel."

He peers around it to Ian.

"Alright, give it a try. I'll let you know if the readings change."

Sheik, meanwhile, knows there isn't much for her to do but pace, trusting that the more mechanically-minded individuals on their little ragtag team know what they're doing. She isn't very good at the jargon, either, but this seems promising.

"That's good, right?"

Connor also had no idea what the two were talking about, but like Sheik, he trusted their judgment. Gordon especially, friends and all. He had no choice but to trust the other. Connor made careful glances of his surroundings, but made a particular glance when Sheik spoke to them.

"It's a bomb. To get no information from scanning isn't good; it means they shielded the inner workings to prevent anyone from tampering with it too easily." He waves a hand, still watching Ian intently.

"Don't worry, just a minor setback..."

Ian is sort of glad that it's someone else delivering the this-thing-may-explode-and-kill-us-all-but-don't-worry-about-it news because he's not sure he could really do that in good conscious. He is very motivated to not let anyone explode, though, and he cautiously starts to pry off an outer plate.

He works slowly, holding his breath the entire time, but it's careless mistakes that could really spell disaster and he's really not inclined to let those happen.

"Gonna hafta--" He finagles with the screwdriver "--use a little bit of force here"

He sort of cringes as he jams the screwdriver in. Not the most delicate operation, but it makes the outer panel falls to the ground.

"There." Big sigh of relief! Nothing has exploded yet. "Get anything now?"

"...Holy god." He says to the affirmative with a small chorus of geiger counter clicks behind it. His eyebrows climb as he stares at the wrist-screen.

"I'm getting particle signatures that have no business being here in four-space." He reports, shaking his head in puzzlement. "Stuff like this could really only exist in the first picosecond after the big bang! Just how the hell are they held stable in this thing...? You can't just freeze a universe at the moment of creation and stuff it into a jar, but I'll be damned if that doesn't look like what they did!"

Sheik glances back and forth between Gordon and the bomb not unlike she's spectating a tennis match--it's all gone back to technobabble that she doesn't quite understand, although none of it sounds good, exactly. So much for that. An entire universe? Inside a bomb?

All at once she thinks they've maybe bitten off more than they can chew.

The bomb itself is quick to confirm this, as it flashes and lights up. Gordon's geiger counter, for lack of a better phrase, goes nuts.

"That's...not good."

She's certain of that, at least.

Connor didn't need to know what this all meant on a technobabble sense. It all sounded terrible, dangerous even. The noises and such made him realize a lot all at once.

This was perhaps a mistake. Connor could only wish he knew how to work these things, all he could do was watch, and he felt a horror creep up at him.

Was it going to be activated?

"Does this mean it could ignite?" Connor questioned, realizing that this was getting worse and worse. "Could you contain it?"

Sheik, of course, can't answer any of those questions, because she doesn't understand the technology and certainly can't even begin to comprehend an entire universe stuffed inside an explosive device.

What she does understand is a digital countdown.

There's no telling how large the blast radius will be, and a minute isn't enough time to put any substantial distance between themselves and the bomb. She isn't about to spend it trying to disarm it, either, not when they could be using the time to get to safety.

"Grab onto me, all of you!"

[personal profile] trustycrowbar 2014-09-03 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
The countdown convinces Gordon; he stares at the activated bomb, wide-eyed. He has no idea what the ninja boy can possibly do to save their asses within a handful of seconds, but he grabs hold of his shoulder anyway.

"I hope you can get us out of here, because that's what we need to do!"

This was happening, what had they done? Connor could only trust Sheik, as he had a number of times. There was no other option, or they were doomed. This wasn't going to be a dud anymore, and he had no idea of the danger it would cause. It was all beyond him.

But again, he had to trust how the land worked and what the people could do. He hoped Sheik knew what she was doing.
