As a quiet Friday dawned on the school's campus, one could perhaps...feel it in the air. A creeping chill, a silent, barely-detectable indication that yes. Tonight would be the night.



By Saturday morning, the entire academy would be covered in snow.

BUT WAIT



That wasn't all--a large pine tree had made an appearance on the main quad, in desperate need of decoration.

"Hah. Considering some of the guys I've run into around here? I'd believe it." Then he does consider some of the guys he's seen around here, especially at the bar... and he does almost believe it.

Well. Anyway.

"Actually, I'm just trying to find someone's room. I think he works here." A pause. "I hope he works here." He can't quite see Connor in a school uniform pouring over the books and cramming for exams. Desmond withdrew the keys Connor had left with him from his pocket.

He considered for a moment if it was safe to ask about him, but Connor himself was out in the open last time he visited the academy and if he lived here, he wasn't exactly hiding. Taking that into account, he asked, "You wouldn't happen to know a guy that goes by 'Connor,' would you?"

"The... custodian?"

She remembers him. They met a while back when she saw him in his full hunting garb. It was kinda impressive.

"He works here." Mukuro affirmed. "Though to my knowledge, he does not spend much time in his office."

Mukuro turned her head to look at Desmond.

"Connor like spending time outside."

... She imagines this holds true even in the winter.

"Custodian?" Wait, really? "Like the whole blue coveralls, mopping up the kid puke custodian?" You've gotta be kidding him. How did Connor land a job like that?

But considering the rest of her description, it was highly likely they were discussing the same person. Connor probably hadn't adjusted too well to the sudden jump in technology.

"Maintenance, yes. As for how he was employed... I don't know. Simply that's the position he occupies." She shrugged, as if to indicate she really didn't have a clue. This school didn't really care much about past credentials or even any credentials when it hired people. Mukuro, like the tenured student she was was kinda used to it.

"But what business do you have with him? Strange thing to look for, a custodian." Mukuro's eyes became wide and curious as she addressed Desmond, but beyond that, her face was impassive.

"Ah, he's a friend," Desmond answered, not quite sure he was willing to introduce Connor as his twice-hundred year-old grandfather just yet. "One I really need to catch up with, so... here I am." Freezing. NUMB.

This girl kind of gave him the same impression. He wasn't quite sure what to make of her, especially considering how young she looked, but he paused on the possibility of a threat when he weighed it against what he'd seen so far. Really, if he had learned anything in the past few months, was that you never know when and where a threat will suddenly reveal itself - or themselves.

He can't help but press it a bit. "Do you normally hang out near frozen maps and talk to strangers?"
