Kiyotaka wasn't the only one around here struck with predatory impulses. While he may not have been an apex predator by virtue of his species, his size allowed him to prey after bigger creatures. Unfortunately, this included both humans and lizards. Being that Kiyotaka was a mixture between the two, he should have no problem finding him on the menu.

But there was a bit of an interference. Kiyotaka was important to him, after all. At his core, he was still Mondo. Such attachments to people he loved were dulled by these disgustingly savage impulses that shifted his priorities away from caring about others to being influenced by Giygas by strange desires. Dulled, but not deleted. That's why when he found this tasty snack lounging in the sun, there was a resistance. He could sense the Kiyotaka-ness about him, which was also masked beneath a new lizard-smell that was foreign. It was a complicated tug between different factors that ultimately led to him approaching, but not outright attacking off the bat like he would with others who were registered as similarly enticing (or a threat to the Sanctuary). Like waiting to see what the other did would help him decide naturally how he should react out of all these confusing indecisions.

So he didn't try any ambushes- he emerged from beneath the ground in a mountainous molehill to reveal the big, hulking mole he had become.

As incomplete as Kiyotaka's transformation was even at its fullest, the fact was that it had peaked over the past 24 hours, and while it hadn't consumed him physically it was more than enough for his mind to succumb. Perhaps if he'd been something more of a mammal or even a Pokemon he would have been able to hold onto rational thought, but as it turned out, lizard creatures didn't have a lot of willpower.

Eat, sleep, fight off predators and competition, maybe find a nice scaly lady friend. That was about all he was concerned with.

He felt the rumbling long before Mondo sufaced, with his stomach pressed against the ground. He was already on guard, and seeing the mole itself didn't do anything to relax him. What the hell was that? It was too big to be food and too furry to be a territorial concern, but it was definitely a threat. He held his head up, puffing out the small spikes that had developed along his neck, spine, and sides, and opened his too-toothy mouth. There was no way he could take this thing on, so maybe he could scare it off first.

Kiyotaka's hopes were crushed when it had the opposite effect: make the threat even more threatening. All hesitations slipped through the cracks of his brain to be disregarded. This was his prey. His opponent. He would not back down from anyone who flashed provocation at him this way.

He pounced for his target claws-first, not being particularly discriminatory about where they landed so long as it was ripping into flesh.

Well, so much for that.

Though his behaviour was anything but, the sound he made was unmistakably human: an agonized cry cut through the air as sharp claws raked across his bare back. The scent of blood was so thick he could taste it, some of it his own, most of it from other unknown sources. This mole beast was a real threat and he was just going to be another victim.

There was no way he'd let himself just die here!

He squirmed beneath his assailant, twisting and arching his back until he could effectively strike at Mondo's throat with his jaws without having to expose his stomach. Whether he killed Mondo or just drove him off didn't matter, as long as he himself was able to get out of it alive.

So headstrong was Mondo that even a set of jaws threatening to milk blood from his neck wasn't enough to detain him immediately. He'd already gotten a deep gash in; why stop there when he was so close? He ripped at the same spot, but the thrust of his claws had decreased in power due to the sudden clench in his throat that meant his prey had stricken a really good spot. Really good meaning it spelled bad news for Mondo. Slash, slash, slash... enough was enough for now! Instead of hacking at his back, he swiped at the teeth that were bothering him so much to pry him off so he could take care of the pesky danger first.

The claws smacking against the side of his head were a good enough sign that he'd successfully diverted the mole's attention away from his torso. The woods weren't that far off, so if he ran and found a nice climbing tree, he'd be just fine.

His teeth clamped down even harder before releasing entirely, his aching body dropping to the ground. He scrambled to his feet - his body was still mostly human, and so was better suited to bipedal movement - and made a break for it.

Flinching, Mondo pawed at the spot on his neck because the sharp pain agitated him, but the act was rendered useless due to how stubby his arms had become. When his focus was restored, he noticed that his prey was escaping. Not wanting to give up, he gave chase. Unfortunately for him, he wasn't very agile above ground, and so, he fell behind.

What a bust. Now he was hungrier than before...
