Welcome to Smash Academy. If you're new here, the first thing you'll probably notice is the looming clock-tower. That's the main building where ~~animes~~ most the classes and strangely accommodating Headmasters are. (That said, the Headmasters are a pair of giant floating hands and one is noticeably much more Crazy than the other, rambling on about oranges and other nonsense...) Around the main building are other facilities you'd expect to see at a school, and despite it being spring break, many bodies are still on campus.

The boy's dormitory wing (BE), the girl's (BW), and the teacher's dorms (TD) are still active with their inhabitants. The common rooms that join BE and BW act as central hubs; in each common room you will find a TV, video games and other such forms of entertainment, as well as some super comfortable couches and chairs about, and a small communal kitchen which may or may not be clean or occupied. There are also communal laundry rooms shared by students and faculty alike. Note: Smash Academy is not in any way, shape, or form responsible for lost or stolen articles of clothing (especially underwear).

The library is MAMMOTH and hard to miss; currently run by an easy to miss five year old albino pikmin girl. The cafeteria/dining hall is also hard to miss, with lunch lunch served daily by your friendly neighborhood Ursaring with a laser eye. If there's nothing appealing here, there are a couple of vending machines are scattered around campus. Careful, they are wily beasts. There's also a campus cafe as far as food options go.

Also found on campus is: a greenhouse, computer labs, the highly esteemed faculty lounge, not so highly esteemed detention rooms/holding cells, mailroom, weight room and a gymnasium. And, yeah, we've got a fancy heated indoor/outdoor swimming pool for all your swimming needs. The courtyard is an open, central location in the school nestled between the dorm wings. There is of course the courtyard fountain, the occasional tree or decorative shrub, and plenty of benches for you to park your 'kesters on. It should probably go without saying, but there's also scattered on campus bathrooms with strange phone numbers scrawled into the walls and janitor closets our janitor would probably not approve of you making out in.

However, the most notable building on campus is probably the gigantic Fighting Stadium. It looks and operates exactly like the Brawl stage, only more. Instead of just Pokemon areas, it can simulate any battle arena imaginable. In addition, items and other special circumstances can be controlled through a podium off to the side. Spars and brawling classes are generally held here, but it is also open to individual training sessions any time. By default, the stadium has safety protocols on by default which negate some pain and characters falling and exploding to their death, but they can be overridden and turned off which means pain and death is a definite possibility.

Since that possibility is quite the possibility at a fighting school like this, it would only make sense for Smash Academy to have an equally advanced nurse's office/infirmary. If you find yourself sick, hurt or in need of medical attention, Rhys andor NPC nurse ladies can make you feel aaaaalllll better.

If you're looking to venture a little beyond the campus, you might pass by the parking lot/hangar; if you've got a vehicle and you drove/flew/rolled/biked/trotted/rode it to school, chances are you parked it here... and your fellow students/faculty would probably greatly appreciate it if no shenanigans befall their vehicles.

Bordering Smash Academy are some grassy fields, a forest, and a misleadingly placid lake; currently home to a Gyrados named Mr. Fish, and formerly home to the (now dead) Kraken. The forest is that of a temperate deciduous forest--lush woods dominated with varying varieties of maple, oak, pine, and birch. There's probably a few other video game derivative species in there if you're very particular about your flora.

Spring is in bloom, so the forest is alive with explosions of flowers, and subsequently birds and bees. Local wildlife varies about as much, including wild Pokemon, "normal animals", and creatures of a more fantastical nature. Again, if you're particular about your fauna, they're mostly video game derivative species. Creature temperaments vary between very tame and very wild, so take caution.

Since the weather was agreeable, Rhys stole away from the buildings for an evening stroll by the lakeside. Somehow those walks were his most favorites, maybe because they indicated he had enough vigor to travel further than the main campus for his idle excursions. That, and clear nights transformed the surface of the lake into a reflective, rippling palace floor for stars and sometimes moonbeams to dance upon.

He felt spirited, almost triumphant for such a silly reason exclusive to him. Ahead he spotted some movement and thought that it might be some kind of wild creature, or... perhaps a person. Probably a person! But he wasn't scared. He continued moving toward the figure and wondered whether it would run or approach, smiling with his innocent curiosity.

Alecto sure had been doing a lot of standing around and having people bump into her tonight. As an experiment, she decided to see if it would keep happening if she stuck around.

Sure enough, she heard footsteps from nearby. She chose to remain stoic, looking out on the lake.

The person did not move as he approached. They were being awfully quiet, so Rhys chose to break the silence by saying hi. "Good evening! Nice night, isn't it?"

... Oh! That was a familiar voice. Now to see if he remembered her. "It's rather plain, actually."

He wasn't expecting such a dismissive response. "Ahahah. Well, that doesn't excuse it from being nice anyway, no?" Plain or not, he was extracting enjoyment from it!

All at once, the notion that he might be familiar with this person finally nudged into him. It clicked together and was rather astonishing. He squinted in the dim light and his jaw unhinged ever so slightly. In his excitement to determine the "who" his mind got hazy as he scrambled for the identity of this woman.

His aghast face morphed slowly into an open smile, gradually, like the sun rising over the hills. "Oh my word, it can't be... Is it really you, Vashta? It's been so long!"

Ah, yep, Rhys remembered Darkrai's previous tenure at the Academy. That was reassuring. She decided to spare him some of her ire, turning her head to look at him. "I go by a different name now, but yeah. It's been a little while. And I see the place still hasn't burned down, against all odds."

Rhys chuckled into his palm. "No, but it's come close! You know what they say about this school and explosions." He glanced over at the far off campus buildings as if he were checking for incinerating blasts right now.

"But ahh, it's so nice to see you again... Oooh, that's right! Your new name. What shall I call you by now?" He was getting a little fidgety from all this excitement, and beyond his awareness, sidling ever the more closer to his long-absent friend.

So far, the Pokemon had been shy about giving out the full version of her name... but she didn't see the need to keep it from him in this case. "My name is Alecto."

She didn't mind her encroaching lack of personal space all that much, either. She disregarded it all the time. "So, what's all gone down while I was out?"

"Oh... a number of things, I'm sure you would gather," Rhys replied while trying to find an adequate way of describing Smash Academy's spanning turns of events. "It seems like such a long time since I've last seen you, though. I feel like I would be rambling for hours!"

"Well, I've got quite a lot of time... just lay the major stuff on me, yeah?" She leaned against a nearby tree. Hey, company was company.

"We'll see what I can come up with."

And then Rhys went ahead and recounted the most recent happenings that he could recall first, like how there was a culture festival that was pretty nice if not a little hectic, and that, ah, it may not be pleasant to hear but there had been heinous crimes afoot like attempted murders and kidnappings, but that they had been resolved and the school should be safe and sound. He went on to talk about, what else... oh, the theme park in outer space that was actually a nefarious plot in disguise, and speaking of plots, well...

"Surely you know Cyrus. Well, of course you know Cyrus..." He paused a moment, finding the subject a little hard to brush up against. "You warned me about him, after all."

And Alecto listened quietly, taking the information in. It sounded like par for the course, really. Until...

She raised an eyebrow. "That I did. What are you getting at, then?" Rhys, she told you bro.

"Ahh, well... He involved himself with something more than a little precarious one night." The healer kept frowning, not pleased that he had to bring it up, and trying to find the words to describe just what went on that night that were still such foggy concepts to him.

"He didn't SEEM that bad, I mean... M-maybe he was a little on the intense side, sure, but I know plenty of people who act like him! And they would never do what he did when he tried to reset the universe and ascend as its new god." It was clear that this was a sensitive topic for Rhys.

Staring. Hard. Was... Rhys actually sticking up for the man?

"He tried that shit again?"

"...Again?" Cue surprise. "You mean he's... done it twice?"

Now the man was getting straight up exasperated. Cyrus, how COULD you! "He should be ashamed of himself."

"Yeah, it was big news in Sinnoh when it happened. Nearly tore apart the space-time continuum, there." She'd witnessed the event from afar, but the chaos at Mt. Coronet was visible even from Newmoon Island. Alecto hadn't gotten more details until her trainer informed her about it, though.

"Well, uh..." The Pokemon fidgeted for a moment, trying to find a good way to word what was on her mind. She didn't: "Hate to break it to you, but if some dumbass tries breaking the universe twice, probably doesn't have much shame to begin with."

"I see..." the priest accepted forlornly. Had he been wrong to have even a shred of hope for Cyrus's conscience? Maybe he was just being too optimistic again. Rhys had a hard time looking at the grim side of circumstance because he was always too busy gazing at silver linings.

"I think... I think I should apologize," Rhys confessed. "I'm sorry for not... heeding your warning better. I should have trusted you..."

Implying he didn't trust her judgement, then... that stung more than Allie liked to admit. She'd thought he was so nice, too...

Wait, he was. And that was the problem. She sighed, running her fingers through her bangs. "It wouldn't be the first time people disregarded my advice." And it surely wouldn't be the last.
