Characters: Sonny, Voile
Date: 2/20 - Late Afternoon, Early Evening
Location: Under one of the trees on campus.
Synopsis: Vinnie's back. The Valentine's Day shenanigans are over. It seems like there's some time for some peace and serenity.
Warnings: I'm going to make you barf with our fluff.
A smile. It was very light and lasted for only a few moments. Then it faded into a frown, which eventually transformed into an expression of pure, untainted concentration. Her focus was easily read, easily noted, and perhaps available in an overabundance.
With a pencil in her left hand, and a pad of paper placed carefully in her lap, she felt mostly at peace. Mostly. Her thoughts were elsewhere, however. The kind of elsewhere that she hadn't quite understood it herself. Occasionally, she found herself far more inclined to feeling less like herself and more like everyone else. But that came with the empathy.
And if she was going to do something for the benefit of the majority rather than the minority, then clearly it was time to put a little plan of hers into action...

But when Vinnie had come back, once he was done reconnecting with his Bro, it was time for some catching up and BOY did he catch up!
And so it was a much more rested, centered Sonny that found himself wandering in the afternoon sunlight, enjoying it's warmth and a feeling that things were going to be OK again. Something he'd been unsure of the weeks prior.
That feeling of 'OK again' became something closer to pure joy as he walked toward his favorite tree and saw underneath it a quiet, contemplative girl for whom his fondness knew no bounds.
"Hey! Hi! Voile!"
He announced his presence a little before getting to the tree, the spring in his step unmistakable.
"I'm happy to see you!"

Well. Pointless was a little cruel, wasn't it? She felt... surprisingly lacking in use and practicality. Especially considering she was his girlfriend. She was supposed to be for more than simply a pretty face and a hypersensitive being who was often incapable of defining her own feelings due to the amount of sensations she conducted.
Her chin finally lifted and she looked toward him with the faintest curl to her lips. "O-oh, hello..." Shyly her head tipped and she lowered her notepad. "Did... you want to join me?"
no subject
He'd noticed the notepad by now. Maybe she was doing homework or poetry or something, and considering he was feeling a little chatty he didn't want to break her concentration. Somehow, though, he didn't think she was about to turn him away. It was still polite to ask, however.

She flushed a little and patted the ground again. "Come on, then."

And he was sorry. He was sure it had been a little tricky recently. Even if he hadn't meant for it to be.
"But I'd love to help you with whatever it is you're doing!"

"I'm not sure you're really into the whole contest scene... But did you know we don't have a hall for it here? I wanted to make one for everyone. Do you think people would like that?" she asked him with sincere uncertainty.
no subject
"I've never been in a contest - there's no Contest hall here? I'm a bit surprised about that! There's Gym leaders at school and I guess I sort of thought there would be at least somewhere in the city that took care of contests."
They weren't as big in Kanto or Johto as they were in Hoenn or Sinnoh, but there were still some places you could go.
no subject
"They may be busy with their own training. Gym competition is much different than contest competition. It's an entirely different world. What works in a gym battle most often won't have the same effect in a contest." She gave a wry smile, "One might think that contest Pokémon are something of a pampered breed." Herself included, she supposed.
no subject
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure it is different, but I don't think it's any less difficult to do." Sonny mused. "You still have to know the moves, have the technique and ability to do them well, and you still have a trainer you have to do your best for." Really, it was probably almost harder to be a good contest Pokemon. Doing the moves to impress judges tastes instead of just to knock out another Pokemon.

And she was something like the girl on an island, left to her own devices.
"Yes. In some ways it is not so different, after all. You aren't wrong," she agreed gently. "I think I always view it as an entirely different world since I've never been used for anything other than contests. I often feel as though I'm too dainty for anything like that. I'm not quite like you, but perhaps I am and I just don't know it yet."

He stretched a little and relaxed a little more against the tree. "I think there's probably lots of things about contests and battles that are similar, even if people and pokemon think about them differently. I don't know if I'd really be good in any contests but I guess I wouldn't mind trying it one day. Just to see."
no subject
"I think you would be very... interesting to have in a contest," Voile began thoughtfully. Then she looked over to him and smiled teasingly, "Are you sure you could stay awake through the whole thing?"
no subject
Probably not a very good one, Sonny.
"Maybe I should ask Red if some day he could enter me in a Contest. Just to see what it's like."
Voile seemed to love Contests - they must be pretty wonderful.
no subject
"It never hurts to ask. If I can get this contest hall off to start, then perhaps Red can enter you into the ones we have here." A smile spread over her lips and she suddenly looked a little more hopeful. Or maybe it was because he was there with her.
no subject
It wasn't ENTIRELY true, after all. He'd felt he couldn't get nearly as much done as he needed to lately which is why he'd deprived himself of his usual amounts of rest. Still, that was pretty far from his mind right now.
"I will definitely ask. I'd like to enjoy stuff like that with you."
no subject
"Sometimes I think you'd like to enjoy anything with me, as long as it was with me."
And that was all right because she'd never really known anyone to feel such a way for her. She adored it, honestly. A little attention was good attention and Sonny's attention was really the best kind. It may have overwhelmed her at times, but she still liked it. In moderation.
"You won't forget?" she asked him suddenly. "I'm sure you've got other things on your mind. It's not high priority, so you should only ask when you have a free moment. No sooner."

She was right - considering the drama they were often embroiled in for one reason or another, it would be a little selfish to sudenly start talking about contests on top of all that.
He gave a small yawn, relaxing into her embrace just a little - he didn't want to topple them over, after all.

He was so large and she was so small. He was so laid back and she was wound so tightly. He was so altruistic and she was so jaded and skeptical. There was a world of differences between them, but she seemed to appreciate that. He kept her rather grounded and he was able to make her laugh. Those were important things.
How long had things been like this...? She couldn't remember. It was around the time they'd visited the tavern, she thought. Around that night when he'd asked her if they could officially be a couple.
"I'm sorry things have been rough likely," she commented gently as she looked up to him.

Her hand squeezed his and Voile coaxed up a smile of vague uncertainty. "I haven't even done anything," she protested softly. "Are you sure that's not just your biased perspective on the whole thing? I mean, to some extent, I think I'd say the same thing."
She looked over to him with an exposed eye of red and her lips curved a little more prominently. "What is it that you have to look forward to with me, if I may ask? I am curious as to what it is you look forward to."
